  5. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) I know JR's philosphy generally speaking is it's not so much as the $ in bad contracts as much as the YEARS. I've heard him say this many times about bad contracts they signed. Although with how bright Beckhams future looks you wonder if they'll make an exception this time around. Seems like the type of guy you want to build your team around for the next 10 years. That philosophy generally applies to pitchers and it's one that most everyone agrees with.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) But those were all 3 years deals, correct? I would love for Kenny to offer Beckham a 7-9 year deal, but I am not sure if Kenny is the type of person who offers long contracts. 4 years + a team option This is Kenny's first go 'round with a player like this. No other player he's had during his tenure compares to Beckham.
  7. Oh how I'd love to see this game, lineup for tomorrows B game vs Dodgers: Mitchell LF Danks CF Flowers C Viciedo 1B Kroeger DH Nix 2B Lillibridge SS Morel 3B De Aza RF
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I'll guess Berkman, but he's a bit expensive: 6 years/$85M (2005-10), plus 2011 club option signed extension with Houston 3/05, replacing 1 year/$10.5M contract for 2005 signed 1/05, avoiding arbitration ($11M-$10M) 05:$10.5M, 06-10:$14.5M annually, 11:$15M club option ($2M buyout) full no-trade clause award bonuses: $0.5M for MVP ($0.35M for 2nd place, $0.25M for 3rd); $50,000 each for WS MVP, LCS MVP; $25,000 each for Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, All Star selection Berkman to donate $100,000 annually to club charity I was thinking about this about a week ago and it makes a ton of sense. First of all: I expect the Astros to suck and be probably ~8 back of the Cards by July. Lance took a step back production wise last season at age 33 and will probably put up similar numbers in '10 (~.880-.900 OPS) eliminating any possibility of the Astros picking up that $15M option of his. Would they even offer him arbitration? He makes $14.5M and he'd get the same from an arbitrator, if they're not willing to pick up the option and pay him $13M for 2011 ($15M salary - $2M buyout) would they risk him accepting and making that same number if not more through arbitration in his age 35 season? If they're not going to get anything in return for one of the greatest players in the team's history when he walks at year's end then they have to sell him off at the deadline for a couple very good prospects, you can't just lose a commodity like him for nothing. By mid July he'll be owed about $6M for the remainder of the season plus his $2M buyout, certainly doable financially (there's always the possibility of getting some cash thrown in in exchange for a little more talent). He's still a kickass left handed hitter (.291/.436/.546/.982 line last season) and would be a hell of a consolation prize when the Sox miss out on Adrian.
  9. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Hmm... Reaaallllyyy? It's not just girth either, mine's a good 12 1/2 inches long.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) He meant system. The slims are in the clear, its the big f***ers that are having the problems. Thus... I am in the clear. B) You're right, misread. I've got a fat one.
  11. QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) Which kind do you have? I picked up the Game of the Year edition about a month ago for $30 off eBay.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) Does anyone happen to know which way its oriented? What cardinal direction the left field line is on, for example? Because I see something very interesting, depending on the facing. The left field line faces northwest I believe.
  13. I just fired up Fallout 3 with no issues so it looks like I'm in the clear.
  14. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Lol, it's kind of funny how some people might "regret" signing a 45 million contract. Unless Longoria is living like a balla, 45 million ought to last him for the rest of his life. If he had gone year to year rather than signing long term he could have made twice that.
  15. I did a quick search and checked a few sites that would have such information and I can't find anything about the option being void if traded, you'd think something as important as that would have been reported b y now. His trde value takes a tremendous hit if he's a 2 month to 1 year rental
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:31 AM) Someone just called in saying Gonzalez' club option year is void if he gets traded. Also there's reports he's gonna want Texiera money on his next deal. 10 years $200MM. So I can't see KW giving up much if this is true and they only get him for a year or two. I think the option year is 2012??? a friend sent me this by text The option year is 2011 and there isn't a chance in hell he gets 10 years, he'll be 30 for God's sake, he's probably looking at 7 years tops and $20M+ per is a near lock.
  17. Didn't know this was in the game.
  18. The size of the Brewers fan base hasn't hurt Prince Fielder or Ryan Braun one bit same went for Barry Zito when he played for the A's and even if there's only a few Pirate's fans left after their 2 decades as the least successful organization in pro sports it won't keep Andrew McCutchen from absolutely blowing up next year if produces.
  19. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) The Sox have had plenty of players in the last decade putting up comparable numbers to the eventual All-Star starter, but in the end there were many hundreds of thousand of votes behind. Simple put there aren't as many White Sox fans in the country as we think. We split the city with a hype machine of a nationally covered "lovable" underdog franchise, when in fact, the White Sox are the TRUE under dogs of the city of Chicago. 24 hour sports coverage elevates Yankee/Red Sox/Cub players to national stardom because there are more fans of those teams. Frank Thomas was talented and lucky enough to not have a team on the North Side of town with it's hype machine in full force yet and no internet coverage of MLB Perfect example, Evan Longoria became a STAR last season. For the longest time I thought, there's no way a franchise barely a decade old has more fans than the White Sox to be able to put him in the ASG. It was just because he was in the World Series last season, people know of him that way, I thought. Obviously he was putting up RIDICULOUS numbers in the 1st half, so that helped, but the more I thought of it, the more I realized we just have a very small, very loyal, fan base. I just don't think it's enough to elevate Gordon no matter how good he is. I will be happy to eat crow this season, but it's just my opinion currently... How many great, personable players have the Sox had in the past 10 years that were actually willing to seek out the spotlight rather than shy away from it? I'm having trouble thinking of any (Hurt excluded). Gordon Beckham is that guy. At the very least I expect him to reach Torii Hunter status.
  20. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) I love me some Slayer, but let's be real for a second. He's not the face of this franchise. Not yet anyway. See Buehrle, Mark. or Konerko, Paul. Ozzie Guillen is the face of the franchise and it's not particularly close.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) I'm just saying that guys who decline offers are looking for a payday. Whether it's with the Sox or not, remains to be seen. He declined 1 offer and from what's been reported it was not a competitive one IMO. He's only logged 3 years of service time, counting 2010 he's still under team control for 3 more years. There's still plenty of time before he hits free agency, typically you don't even see starting pitchers get long term deals until their second year of arbitration so the team can save a little money on the final 2 years of arbitration and buyout a free agent year or 2. The only contract extensions you offer a starting pitcher who's yet to hit arbitration (like the one they gave to Gavin) is one that is below market value, catching a young player at a time that he may be getting antsy for a payday or looking for an insurance policy in case he suffers an injury before he can cash in in arbitration. You should read nothing into a pitcher with 2 years of service time turning down a 4 year contract. Hell, the Sox only have control over Gavin for 1 more season than Danks and that year is an option year.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Honestly, I'd almost rather trade John Danks than Daniel Hudson in any Gonzalez/SD trade. With the way Danks1 has refused contract buyouts, he's almost certain to leave via free agency the first chance he gets. How is that? He's been offered one long term deal by the White Sox and it was a low ball offer. That's all we've heard regarding Danks, the Sox and a possible long term deal, this is the same guy that fired Scott Boras less than 2 years ago. What other evidence has there been that he's eying free agency? Should we trade Carlos? He declined the same contract offer.
  23. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) The Beckham as a National star not just a White Sox star is laughable. I'm sorry, I love the Sox and I love Beckham, but it's NEVER gonna happen. The sad truth of it all is if he were a Cub there would be a hell of a better chance....that's just the way it is, and we all know it. Case in point, I just tuned in the '08 All Star Game, and Fukudome and Soto are STARTERS. Beckham will place 5th or 6th in All-Star voting even if he's hitting .320.... So how does Ian Kinsler do it playing in Arlington? He was leading the voting for AL 2B up until the final week last season all while putting up only decent numbers. As for Soto and Fukudome: aside from Brian McCann, Geovany Soto had the best numbers of any NL catcher in the 1st half of the '08 season (.288/.369/.522/.891 & 16 HR), it was well deserved. Fukudome got the Japanese vote, he was a huge star in Japan and they like to stuff the ballot box for their own.
  24. Adrian Gonzalez damn it. I truly hate spring training stories, they're such garbage. Especially Levine's, he's been particularly excruciating the past few weeks.
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) Quick Note: The six stadiums are unlocked if you get the platinum trophy. But I probably wouldn't have the patience, so I'm happy I pre-ordered. It's sad that a marketing ploy such as this worked on me but yeah, that's why I caved and pre-ordered it last night. I love playing in the old time stadiums and the odds of me getting the platinum trophy are next to nothing.
