QUOTE (T R U @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) you prefer 3rd person over 1st? I cant stand 3rd person it feels weird In my strange little world 3rd person is VASTLY superior to 1st person. It's just personal preference but I like to be able to see my character on screen and the added perspective that comes with it. It all goes back to SOCOM II, the best online video game experience I ever had, that setup was absolutely perfect in my mind. It added so much to the gameplay when your enemy could see you from around a corner or behind a wall, there were very few times when you were 100% safe in one place. There was an added difficulty to movement which placed great value on stealth combat, knowing your environment, planning out your maneuvers before executing them and not running into a hostile area willy-nilly . Plus in the 3rd person you always know when you're completely behind cover.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) had to be that or second base, he wasnt going to take over for Tulo Cabrera was most definitely going to take over the starting 2B duties if he signed with Colorado with Barmes (who as Wite pointed out; was mediocre last season even with all that pop) moving to a utility role. Of course Cabrera chose the Reds because they offered him their starting SS job.

Sox not adding a LH bat; looking at relief, Damon?
Kalapse replied to beck72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Apparently the A's are in serious talks with Gabe Gross. Given the already crowded Oakland outfield/DH situation adding Gross would seemingly take them out of the running for Johnny Damon. One less possible suitor, a little less competition, that price tag continues to drop. -

He has less than 500 innings at each outfield position, there isn't enough of a sample size from which to draw any solid conclusions. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) So Damon to RF, and Quentin to DH? LF) Pierre 2B) Beckham DH) Quentin 1B) Konerko RF) Damon C) Pierzynski SS) Ramirez CF) Rios 3B) Teahen Is that the line-up? Johnny Damon is no where near a full time outfielder at this point in his career, especially in right field and ESPECIALLY with Juan Pierre in left, that'd be a disaster. He'd be fine playing about 30 to 40 games out there tops in my mind with close to zero games in right. Also, I know this would never happen but I'd personally hit Damon leadoff, Beckham 2nd and Pierre 9th, I think that's the optimal configuration. 2 high on base percentage hitters with good speed at the top and your super speedy, low on base guy turning over the lineup at the bottom. -
Sticking with the big names: Rob Neyer is solid for an ESPN employee.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Only works on the desktop? I also read that you can name it anything instead of "GodMode". Will try this when I get home. Don't have 7 at work. You can create the folder anywhere, not just the desktop.

Create a new folder on the desktop and name it: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} That's all.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) The only team they have with a worse offense than us is Toronto. And yet they have us scoring 65 more runs than we did last season.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) i like windows 7, it definitely eats up less resources than vista. i installed it on my dads old laptop and it runs fine. it runs amazing when i dual boot off of my macbook pro. im still trying to find all the nooks and crannies of the OS. The "god mode" is a very nice addition and an easy way to find your way around the OS.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) That's a must-own. Unfortunately we're still what? 1/4 of a year away from seeing it on store shelves? I can't wait that long, damn it.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) He actually has arguably the worst outfield arm in the entire league. And his nearest competition is currently penciled in as our starting left fielder.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) Tim Raines possibly becoming the third and final one day The 2 best seasons of Vlad Guerrero's career came in Montreal. .323/.390/.588/.978, 148 OPS+, 234 HR in 4220 PA with Montreal. 4 AS appearances, 3 Silver Sluggers .319/.381/.546/.927, 141 OPS+, 173 HR in 3606 PA with Anaheim. 4 AS appearances, 4 Silver Sluggers and an MVP Personally, I'd put him in as an Expo.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Smoke Screen. Nick Johnson was real, Chad Tracy was not. I was being largely facetious.
-
Chad Tracy -- the same guy the Sox apparently could not afford -- signed a minor league deal with the Cubs, he'll make $900K if he makes the team there's another ~$500K in incentives if he reaches 450K. Yes, an MLC/$900K, frightening.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) Really? When and why did they do that? Because it was a stupid rule. I think it was some time in the last year or so maybe 2 years, not sure

If MAG were a 3rd person tactical shooter like its SOCOM predecessors I'd likely be all over it, unfortunately I have little use for yet another first person shooter regardless of how many people will be participating in the battles.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Actually, to be accurate. Thomas was the DH for most of the season. When Everett replaced him, the team started to lose their 10+ game lead on Cleveland. Everett was the everyday DH for the first 2 months and the final 2.5 months of the season and played sporadically at DH in between, totally 107 games at DH in all. I think your time line is a little off.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) im bitter about thome not coming back and agree with just about everything youve said in this thread... however, i have to hope that kotsay will almost exclusively play at 1b when he plays (with PK DH) which would hopefully strengthen the D....also if Jones is playing either corner (with Quentin or Pierre as DH) i think our D is better....unfortunately Ozzie wont play jones in the corner, hell likely play jones in CF with rios in right....though even in that scenario i think our D is better I hope so. It's just he "hall of famer" talk that has me worried. Vizquel needs to get ABs and Jones needs to play CF because that's where he built his hall of fame resume. I sure hope the new svelte Andruw takes to the outfield a bit better than the 2009 version fared in his stints because the scouting reports weren't pretty.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) hey,it may happen, but i really dont see vizquel dh'ing. im sure u dont want thome back but u just think its better than what we have right? why do we have to settle for someone thats not that good, that we dont want, etc ? cant we get someone a bit better, a difference maker? thome isnt a difference maker. may be better than jones but not a difference maker. there has to be someone out there. You can pray all you want for a difference maker but the Sox started the Jones/Kotsay PR campaign a few weeks back and it's sure as s*** looking like it'll continue right on through opening day, Thome appeared to be the last gleaming hope we had at a seemingly competent hitter being acquired to take care of DH'ing duties. Sure I'll take a "difference maker" over Thome but that doesn't appear to be the cards.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) i rather have the rotation than just thome. and u act like its 100% that hed be good and healthy this yr. u dont know. im not going to be like others and say were going to lose the division bcuz were not going to have jim thome. i wouldnt put it all on ozzie about the whole dh thing, they were going to get johnson,of course it was a money issue, not oz. I'd say the odds of Jim Thome being healthy and productive are far greater than those of the Kotsay/Jones platoon. At least Thome has been a consistently good producer over the last 4 seasons, rather than the other 2 who haven't done a whole hell of a lot since their late 20's.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) i rather have the rotation than just thome. It just means you'll see a terrible hitter in Omar Vizquel and a bad hitter in Mark Kotsay DH more often and you'll have the pleasure of watching a couple of mid 30 year old's in Jones and Kotsay weaken the defense every time they get a start in the outfield. Oh joy.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) no. but i know he walked quite a bit, hit hrs, etc. but didnt u get a tad bit tired of watching thome strikeout, esp against lefties late in a game, hit right into the shift, need 3 hits to score, etc? yes i realize hes probly better than what we have, but i just really want to move on Andruw Jones is slow, probably can't be trusted to play the field consistently anymore, strikes out a whole lot, draws a good amount of walks, hits for a terrible average and about 25% of his hits will be HR (only a few percentage points less than Thome.) I guess the good news is there's no real shift for a right handed hitter, what those who haven't seen Jones play in 5 years will soon find out is that he's basically a poor man's Jim Thome. I do find it interesting that for a guy who's supposedly so easily neutralized by lefty relievers Thome somehow managed a .270/.378/.549/.927 line in ~140 PA against relief pitchers last season.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Thome has supposedly been told the White Sox will pass. Hopefully they have something else up their sleeves or they will be in the market for hitting during the season. And supposedly the Tigers may have interest in the big man, good stuff.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) I suppose the argument would be that those stats fail to include a bunch of playing time for guys who were not there on Opening Day. And then you have Teahan to factor in as well. The Sox put up an even .400 SLG in the second half of 2009, good for worst in the AL.
