QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Guerrier? Young? I'd take Gomez over both.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) also led the team in times being picked off as well Isn't "best hitter on a real bad offense" a pretty lousy argument in and of itself?
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) I've read speculation here that Godzilla is either retiring or heading back to Japan. Many in the media think that he's most likely to go to Seattle to play with Ichiro. Matsui said today that he's not going back to Japan.
-
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) $2m apparently. That's solid. Teahen could be a pretty valuable commodity at under $2M. That's also an acceptable salary for a bench player.
-
QUOTE (SockMe @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Mauer, Morneau, Gomez in order Span? Kubel? Cuddyer?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Career vs sox: .317 .344 .504 .848 20% of his career RBI's have come against the SOX Yeah he kicked our ass in '08 (we're the only team he hit that year) then did absolutely nothing against us last year. That's not much of a track record.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) to that Hawk says, "Don't tell me how many he hit, tell me when he hit them" Singles early in July games?
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) I think it's still arguable. Jeter is getting up there in years and Bartlett and Zobrist need to do what they did this year again. Of course, Beckham hasn't even played a full year and Lexi is only a 2 year vet but I could easily see our middle infield tandem combine to hit .285 with 40HR and 160 RBI and steal 30 bases next year. Not many teams can say that. Alexei put up a .319 wOBA last season, he has the most to prove out of all of them.

Gomez hit .229/.260/.354/.614 against the Sox last season.

QUOTE (League @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) Well, we now may have the best offensive SS/2b combo in the AL. Jeter/Cano? Bartlett/Zobrist?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Dont underestimate the importance of a good leadoff and top of the order hitter. Both teams in the WS had that and the teams that moved on all had those players in place as well. Jimmy Rollins had a horrendous season in the leadoff spot in 2009.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Teahen can play first base so you can trade Paulie and not have to be overly concerned with filling the hole at first. Only 7 times since 1960 has a White Sox starting 1B put up an OPS+ of 99 or lower. Only 18 times since 2000 has a starting AL 1B posted an OPS+ under 100. Mark Teahen has been in the 90's since 2007. He was at 94 last year.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) Teahen starting at first? No thank you. That'd be a disaster.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) I get what you're saying, but this reported deal came out early this morning in the newspaper and as of the evening both Getz and Teahen didn't know what was going on. Clearly the Sox and Royals both know the report is out there. If a deal was being worked on but not pretty much agreed on and finished, then both clubs would have notified their players and said nothing was going on, don't you think? There was a report a couple years ago that came out saying we traded Garland to the Astros, and another report last year saying we had dealt Dye to the Reds for Bailey. The Sox IIRC reacted pretty quickly on those, but not this one. Plus Cowley has supposedly gotten enough confirmation for the Sun Times to put the story up. I agree that it was all leaked early and that both teams are probably very pissed about it. But I think the talks are real, the names are right (although there could be others), the framework is pretty much all there, and they haven't said anything because they're expecting to finalize it soon. That deal with the Astros had legs. Supposedly KW was asking for Taveras, Hirsh, Buccholz, and Pence for Garland but Purpura was unwilling to include Pence in the deal so it fell through. The first 3 were dealt shortly there after for Jason Jennings.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) Tim Lincecum was busted with 3.3 grams of marijuana in his car. In other news, the sun came up today He was doing 74 in a 60. If you're gonna break the law, BREAK the law. And to think he's gonna have to issue an apology for this weak ass attempt at rebellion.

Bill James handbook 2010 predicts Tyler Flowers
Kalapse replied to MattZakrowski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Tyler is truly capable of putting up a RC/27 of 6.01 in 2010 then the Vazquez trade was an incredible one and Tyler needs ABs because that's roughly what Konerko, Luke Scott and Michael Cuddyer did last year. -
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) I stand corrected. This is his last year of arbitiration. So he's a free agent after 2010. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2004/12/k...-royals_28.html You can't file for free agency with 5.155 years of service, 2010 will be his 3rd year of arbitration eligibility because he was a Super Two player.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) He is arbitration eligible for 2010, 2011, and 2012. In 2009 with the Royals he made $3.3M. He is probably going to get between $3.5 and $5M for the next 3 seasons before Free agency. He currently has 4.155 years of service so he'll be a free agent following the 2011 season, he also made $3.575M in '09 so he's looking at ~$3.8M to $4M in 2010.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Sorry if this has been asked, but what is Teahen's contract status? He's under team control for 2 more seasons through arbitration. He made $3.575M last year and he'll get a small raise in 2010.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) 1. Pods-LF 2. Beckham-SS 3. Quentin-RF 4. Konerko-1B 5. ???-DH 6. Rios- CF 7. AJP-C 8. Ramirez-SS 9. Teahan-3B That's a real bad defense especially with the giant hole on the right side of the infield.

Anyone looking for a real source can turn to Jon Heyman's Twitter feed. 2 years with a vesting option for '12.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) They could have just cut Josh without adding salary. This is not a trade to get rid of someone, unless Linebrink or Paulie are involved, because they have contracts worth ridding. They could also just wait until December 12th and sign Teahen as a free agent when he's non-tendered by the Royals. Of course then you have to enter into a large scale bidding war with the other 28 teams in baseball all chomping at the bit to get their hands on Mark Teahen.
-
QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) The White Sox MLB site only addresses this trade with a question mark and the Royals G. M. is not confirming this deal. Does anyone know if this trade is confirmed by anyone other than the N. Y. Times and Cowley? I think it's interesting that Scott Reifert has yet to confirm anything via Twitter, given that he works for the White Sox he needs to wait for front office confirmation before announcing anything.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Age is my only concern with Polanco. He's incredibly baseball smart and hit's well with RISP. We need more of that. Split stats like that fluctuate greatly from year to year, you can't acquire players based on their numbers with RISP. Did you know Polanco hit .278 w/ RISP and .258 w/ RISP and 2 out in '08?

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) What scenario would you rather have? 3B Beltre SS Ramirez 2B Beckham or 3B Beckham SS Ramirez 2B Polanco Just curious. Adrian Beltre is one of the most valuable players in baseball IMO and I could easily see Polanco completely falling apart next season.
