QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) Little surprised in all the Peavy love he didn't mention Clayton Richard ihas a 1.88 ERA over his last four starts, held the Dodgers to one hit over seven innings in his last start and has allowed 15 hits in his last 24 innings. Richard is 5-2 with a 4.08 ERA and the Padres are 9-3 in his starts. That deal couldn't have been made w/out including Richard? Yes I love Peavy. Yes I'm a Richard fan. Yes I realize 10 posters are now going to shrug off Richard as a prospect because he put up these numbers "in the National League." Lets just say Clayton Richard does turn into a good starting pitcher, who really gives a s***? If Jake Peavy pitches up to expectations - and there's really no good reason to believe he will not - then the Sox added one of the best pitchers in the game to the top of their rotation for the next 3+ years. You can't always trade garbage for valuable assets, every once in a while you have to give something to get something.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) Fielder would be great if he'd accept an extension prior to the trade, but Boras makes that unlikely. We don't have the bullets anyway.

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) White Sox need to make a trade for Prince Fielder. Power lefty, DH, young, available. Add him to our lineup and we should look good. 2 years away from free agency, Boras client, expensive in terms of talent required to acquire him.

According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back
Kalapse replied to DaveBrown85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I like Kotsay and want him back. I also want Pods back--that man HUSTLES. I could easily let go of PK and with Dye, either ship him out or make him the DH. That's because his entire game is predicated on running as fast as he can on every play that may be close at first, if he didn't he'd be out of the league. Just because he's that kind of player doesn't mean he's trying any harder than anyone else. It also raises the question; how much of a hit does a "hustle" player's value take when he's an awful baserunner like Podsednik? -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) I'll be rooting for the Sox to lose this weekend. I can't stand the Yankees, and I think the Tigers have at least some shot of beating them, especially if Verlander and Jackson can start games 1-2. I'd be right there with you if it weren't Peavy starting tomorrow, there's just no way I can cheer against him.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Chris Carpenter today vs the Reds: Pitching: 5 IP, 3 H, 6K, 1 BB 0 ER Batting: 2-3, 1 r, 1 2b, GRANDSLAM, 6 RBI Daaaaaaamn edit: he's now 17-4 and lowered his ERA to 2.24 Hell of a year 1.01 WHIP and only 7 HR allowed on the season. Unfortunately for him he spent a month on the DL earlier in the year which will keep him from reaching 200 IP and probably cost him the NL Cy Young.

If you watch Laird's fingers (even on the first pitch) he's not putting down the standard signs, he's trying to disguise them. Mauer either picked up or knew the pattern from previous experience if Laird and Verlander have stuck to a similar sequence.

What would it take to get Andrew McCutchen from the Pirates?
Kalapse replied to coco1997's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) And trading for Matt Morris when you could have spent that money on prospects more than negates this. All it takes are a couple really bad deals to f*** everything up, and the Pirates have done that a lot over the years. However, the new regime is being a lot smarter about how and where they are spending. I for one really liked the McLouth deal for them. That and the whole wasting draft after draft after draft and failing to develop pitching worth a damn thing. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) You would think that with a man on second the pitching team would immediately go to alternate signs. They did but Mauer figured them out.

QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Doesn't mean those parts will be "basically nothing." Case in point: Freddy Sanchez for Tim Alderson '03: Signed Jeff Suppan as a free agent '03: Traded Jeff Suppan (with Scott Sauerbeck who was acquired via Rule V) for Freddy Sanchez and Cash '08: Traded Freddy Sanchez for Tim Alderson That right there is maximizing Jeff Suppan's value. -
What would it take to get Andrew McCutchen from the Pirates?

'97: Purchased Ricardo Rincon from the Mexico City Reds '98: Traded Ricardo Rincon for Brian Giles '03: Traded Brian Giles for Oliver Perez and Jason Bay '06: Traded Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady '08: Traded Xavier Nady (with Damaso Marte via Rob Mackowiak who was acquired via draft) for Daniel McCutchen, Jose Tabata, Jeff Karstens and Ross Ohlendorf '08: Traded Jason Bay to the Red Sox for Bryan Morris, Andy LaRoche, Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss Ricardo Rincon and Rob Mackowiak = Daniel McCutchen, Jose Tabata, Jeff Karstens, Ross Ohlendorf, Bryan Morris, Andy LaRoche, Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss. oh and the 5 best years of Brian Giles' career, 4.5 seasons of Jason Bay's prime and the best years of Oliver Perez and Xavier Nady's careers. They haven't totally f***ed up ever trade over the past 2 decades, they've done a pretty damn good job holding onto the value of Brian Giles. (though the Jason Bay trade is still questionable at best) -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) Neither has Jake Peavy. Doesn't mean they're both not great players. Do you really think that's the point I was trying to make?

Joe Mauer has never actually taken part in a postseason victory.
-
The uploader seemed confused. Blyleven was referring to Verlander trusting his catcher Laird when bouncing a curve with a runner on third.

Modern Family is pretty damn funny through the first two episodes.

He stole 2 last year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) What's with the my god? I stand my my comment he'd be a moron to go elsewhere like New York. You think NY gives a rats ass about him after he retires? This guy will make a zillion dollars in Minnesota and can do whatever he wants in Minny after he retires. I'm talking about quality of life. Not just sitting around after you retire but making money doing nothing as a legend in Minny. Len Dawson has been a hero on KC TV for decades after playing for the Chiefs. George Brett is a god here and still is making money working for the Royals. Yes because it's so hard for former great athletes to find jobs in media when their days of playing ball are over. Joe Mauer could have a stroke that robs him of his ability to form a coherent thought and ESPN would still hand him a bag full of money to mumble over highlights on the nightly Baseball Tonight. Also: you help win a ring with the Yankees and your ass is set for life. What do you think Tino Martinez (spent 7 years with the Yankees starting at age 28) has been up to over the past 4 years? He had a gig lined up with ESPN before he even retired and when they found out he was an incompetent broadcaster he got a sweet gig with the Yankees working as an instructor, this job soon turned into a widely coveted "Special Assistant to the General Manager" job.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Weak start to the season for How I Met Your Mother. Ted really needs to meet the mother, his storyline is getting old. I'd pay to see Ted killed off the show.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Here is what I have for 2010: Obligated ($68.05) Peavy $15 Buehrle $14 Konerko $12 Pierzynski $6.25 Linebrink $5 Floyd $2.75 Rios $9.7 Viciedo $2.25 Ramirez $1.1 Arbitration Eligible Jenks Danks Quentin Betemit Options Thornton $2.25 Garcia $1 Not Sure Pena Carrasco Williams Pre Arbitration Beckham Getz Nix I'm sure I'm missing other minor league contracts we have to cover. Viciedo is due $1.25M. Pena, Carrasco and Wise are arbitration eligible and Williams is pre-arb (only about 1 year of service). Add in the $1M buyout due to Dye (the extra million you gave to Viciedo accounts for this) and you're right on.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Betemit is not on the roster man, they released him months ago. Betemit's in Charlotte so he's still in the organization.

Greinke's down to 2.06 after 7 innings of 1 ER run work today. He gave up his one buffer run so he now needs 7 shutout innings in his final start to finish the season with an ERA of 1.9927 or 1.99 after rounding it off. It would be only the 29th time since 1950 that a starting pitcher finished the season with a sub-2 ERA in 200+ IP and only the 15th AL pitcher to do it over that span, only the 10th time for either league in the past 30 years and 3rd time in the AL over that span.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) And technically Frank was never dealt... He was just let walk away. At age 38 and replaced with a vastly superior player who filled a need.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Sure, I am of the opinion that if the team was likely to make the playoffs, Jim would not have been moved. I saw it as pretty damn close to a white flag being raised. That doesn't really explain anything. Removing 1 player to create more playing for 4 other veterans should instill confidence in them, not send them into a death spiral. Opening up playing time for you is not an excuse to give up on the season.
