  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) Even if you take away that one game, there is no denying that Podsednik has been far better than expected, both offensively and defensively. If Getz doesn't take his eye of the ball yesterday, Pods would have had another assist. Take away his 1 fluky game and his OBP drops below .300 and no that's really not any better than what I expected, that's awful. The leadoff spot is still a big whole. As for his many assists: when you have a noodle arm they're gonna take some real stupid chances on you, I give Podsednik credit, he's gotten those lollipop throws to the bag on time.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 30, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) With Pods and BA hitting, I really really like that lineup. Podsednik sure is living off that one game in Anaheim.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 30, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) David Price has been fantastic today against the Twins. Wouldn't know, Fox hates baseball fans. Good thing the Orioles are playing a night game, maybe Wieters can get a damn hit this time around.
  4. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ May 30, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Is this the first time all year Ozzie has put the same lineup out twice in a row? NO WISE!!!!!!!! We had the same exact lineup for games 1 and 2 of the season. This is at least the 5th time this season.
  5. That's awesome then, we're paying him just over the prorated league minimum.
  6. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Another good outing today by Buehrle and he's definitely in the Cy Young discussion. When line-up's are posted, I'd appreciate if someone could post the KC one too. Today's game is on national broadcast, correct? Eh, when a pitcher in the same league is having quite possibly the best season of any pitcher in modern baseball history there isn't much of a discussion.
  7. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 30, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) I did it on purpose. And I will do it again HILARIOUS! Well, now I know to turn on my TV at 6:10, unfortunately I'll have to waste a half hour or so meticulously flipping from channel to channel hoping to find some dagum baseball.
  8. Kyle, you're a hack. This is back to back games with vital information missing from the title of the game thread. Thanks to you I missed yesterday's game.
  9. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 29, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) I'm looking forward to this series, although Bannister has not fared well against the White Sox... Yep, Thome, AJ and Alexei especially: Konerko: 3/20, 2B, 2BB/6K .450 OPS Thome: 7/18, 2B, 3 HR, 2BB/6K 1.476 OPS Dye: 5/19, 2B, HR, 1BB/3K .774 OPS Pierz: 6/16, 4 2B, HR, 1BB/1K 1.225 OPS Fields: 0/6, 4BB/3K .400 OPS Ramirez: 4/8, 2B, HR, 2BB/2K 1.600 OPS Pods: 1/7, 3B, 0BB/0K .578 OPS Brian: 0/2, 0BB/2K .000 OPS
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Not to mention game time. I hereby relieve kyyle of game thread making duties. Wow, good call I didn't even notice that. What an incompetent boob. When I turn on WCIU at 11:35 tonight and don't see White Sox baseball I'll know who to blame.
  11. Little over an hour until the major league debut of Matt Wieters, I'm oddly excited for this occasion.
  12. Kyle, you half-assing son of a b**** you gotta put the damn channel at the end of the title. Now I'm going to miss the game because I don't know what channel it's on.
  13. Josh Hamilton and his 6 HR, .791 OPS is a leading vote getter in the outfield. Shockingly Matty, Casey and Hart have no problem with this on the MLBN. JJ Hardy in the NL? Really? At one point do we just start ignoring this bulls*** game altogether?
  14. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) And isn't constantly fighting injuries. Roy Halladay hasn't experienced an "injury" since 2006 when he missed a couple starts with forearm problems. Oswalt on the other hand had some problems with an abductor muscle last year.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Har. He's clearly improving, I didn't say he was suddenly Mickey Mantle. Eh, I wasn't really being sarcastic. He's producing better over his last 4 games than at any time since Podsednik was recalled. When your K rate on the season is 31.4 %, 25% is an improvement.
  16. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 27, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) i think i have had my fill of Fields playing, and the Sox are just about at that point as well. Im not going to say bust, Im going to say it didnt work out here/needs a change of scenery. Yeah, that's a bust.
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Is Roy Oswalt better than Buehrle today? Will he be better than Buehrle over the remainder of his contract? If the answer is not yes to both questions, pass. Wait, why does he have to produce better than Buehrle? Personally, I could see them putting up similar numbers the rest of the way with the upside squarely in Oswalt's favor.
  18. Much like with Ervin Santana Brian Anderson is the only hitter on this team with any real success against Weaver (sans Betemit). 56 AB against Weaver for the current members of this ballclub and we have 2 XBH total, 4 BB and 16 K. Anderson is 1/3 w/ 2B and Betemit is 1/5 w/ HR and 2 BB. Of course Thome has the other 2 BB because he's Jim Thome. AJ, Kong, Jim, Pods and Dye are a combined 5 for 42 against him with 11 strikeouts.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) If Fields continues to improve as he has the last few games, I'm guessing that means either Fields will be traded, or the Sox have a tough call to make. I personally would rather, if Fields does indeed continue to improve, that they play Beckham at Short where he belongs (remember, his weakness in the scouting reports was his arm and defense generally), and move Alexei to CF. I realize I'm in the minority on this, but, I think it would have been better to either send Fields down a few weeks ago, or to stick it out now that he's showing signs of life. Right now is the exact wrong time for this. Flame away. .375/.375/.438/.813 over his last 16 PA and he's only struck out in a quarter of them!
  20. Wow, I didn't think he'd ever play for Charlotte. I just assumed he'd jump right to the pros when his time came.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) He's 32. He's no more than a big name (with a big contract) at this point in his career. So what happened over his final 21 starts last year when he threw 139.2 IP, 1.87 BB/9, 7.22 K/9, 3.86 K/BB, 0.52 HR/9, 2.51 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a .225/.270/.310/.585 against? That includes a 32.1 IP scoreless streak in early September in which he threw back to back shutouts. Those are some pretty gaudy numbers for a #3 starter.
  22. The Diamondbacks aren't going to pay a quarter of Eric's Byrnes' remaining salary for that package. The point was also made earlier that putting Dan Haren on the market would garner much more realistic interest in teams compared to Peavy, given the increased competition for Haren and the fact that they don't HAVE to trade him you're likely going to have to blow them away to get them interested in your offer.
  23. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) I'd gladly eat the rest of Byrnes terrible contract if it helped us get Haren. Byrnes only has 1 year left on his contract, and while 11 million is a lot for a 4th OF who was likely a juicer, getting Haren in the process would be worth it. That $11M could very well get you a very good player on a 2 year deal this offseason, I also don't think the Sox are in a financial position to pay Byrnes' salary. $11M is a huge chunk of this team's payroll.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Just think, a few more losses and we could have been holding Pedro Alvarez and his .784 OPS in high A ball. And even despite that Pedro Alvarez still has incredible trade value, a few poor months in high A ball don't overshadow his talent.
  25. This is why I was cheering against the Sox at the end of the 2007 season. Gordon Beckham could very well be bust but RIGHT NOW if Kenny saw fit he could mark Gordon the centerpiece in a deal for a star major leaguer. The value of a top 10 pick is quite high.
