5 baserunning blunders in 4 games for Podsednik, can he make it 6 in 5 or even 7 in 5? We'll see.
-
He started that thread before yesterday's game, it's just a heads up. He does it all the time.
-
Well I had no idea he hit 2nd on Thursday, didn't see a second of the game. I guess that makes this significantly less important.
-
Alexei's in the 2 hole today.

The Sox were willing to pay a starting pitcher an average of $17.333M a year over the next 3 years. They're certainly not cheap, perhaps ignorant but not cheap.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) It's a shame it got leaked, but I'm certainly not holding this one against the Sox. I know its incredibly easy for some to call the Sox cheap for not investing 22 million into a pitcher four years from now, but it's an incredibly risky venture that obviously was the deal breaker. If another team wants to do it, good for them, but there is a reason he hasn't left San Diego yet.... They had absolutely no chance of getting a deal done without picking up that option. If they went into this thinking Peavy would make any concessions then they were fooling themselves. It really is a shame this got leaked because it was never going to get done in the first place.

I thought the return of Jeopardy on SNL's season finale was hysterical.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) It's not perfect... but just enough to give us all boners. Make sure you tell people, "Steve9347 made me cum." You're damn good at this. That looks badass

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Speaking of fun, Kalapse missed the best part of this thread. The 5 or so pages about Penguins were the best. Can someone link me?
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Fun, isn't it? It really is, I love this stuff. Wish I could have taken part in the 1,200 or so posts that have been made since this morning.

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Kalapse, alot of what was said in the SD paper was predicated on what Axelrod said when he talked to peavy yesterday afternoon...which was that peavy still preferred NL. We've heard from DeLuca that Peavy wants his option picked up...and now from ESPN radio that the sox are trying to rework the 22 mil to make it work and have sent their offer along to Jake. If you ask me this thing sounds like it could be getting closer. Seems like Peavy is willing to do it if the sox give him concessions (also a full NTC once he comes here) and the sox are trying to accommodate Thanks a lot. Good to see the reports have changed over the past 4 hours, this is just incredible.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) It appears that the Sox and Peavy are in negotiations in order for him to waive the NTC. He is seeking to have his $22M option guaranteed, and get Full no trade protection through the end of the deal. Sox are trying to defer some of the $22M. Thanks, nothing shocking there. That $22M option was going to be the sticking point in any deal involving Peavy.

I've been out of the loop for the past 4 hours, at last check the SD newspaper was reporting that no deal was imminent. What's it looking like now?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Nope, that's what been reported, is probably true. They've said that the 2 PTBNL are probably pitchers, and they're not named Gordon Beckham. 4 pitchers? That's madness, it'd wipe out our supply of pitching spects in one fell swoop. As long as Beckham and Flowers aren't involved (they wouldn't want Allen anyway) I'm good with this.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Waiting on Peavy... Do we know anything more about the package or is still Poreda and Richard + 2 PTBNL? I'm stuck here at work missing all the fun, it's driving me insane.
-
Wow, so this is for real? What's the latest update?
-
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:39 AM) move on people, we know that anything that is released to the media is not done by KW in the end. People should really stop saying this because it's not true at all.
-
If he gets dealt that $22M option is gonna have to be exercised as incentive to waive his NTC. So that's an $18.5M pitcher right there. That makes his contract the 3rd highest in the history of the game in terms of average annual value for a starting pitcher on a multi-year deal. I do look forward to coming back to this thread 15 hours from now and seeing the 300 or so posts that will be made over that time span. I'm sure there will be at least 1 completely off topic argument.

Does Kenny acquire a lot of $18.5M starting pitchers?

OMGZ! NO WAYZ!

5/20 Game Thread: MIN @ CWS, 7:11pm WCIU

QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 20, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) Is it just me or is Corky getting more starts than last year's dumpy 44-numbered back-up catcher? No, not at all. If anything he's lagging behind Hall's pace from last year. Miller: 9 starts through 39 games = 23.1% (37 starts over a full season) Hall: 36 starts in 163 games = 22.1% (9th start came in game 36) -
Levine: Sox Could Reconsider Beckham Timetable
Kalapse replied to DaveBrown85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You're gotta be f***ing kidding me. I about lost my s*** when I read the title fortunately this is just idle speculation from Levine. Title changed. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 20, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Are we sure about that? I thought they were on major league contracts. Aren't those specifically NOT what the contracts players sign after being drafted. I guess I thought they were in the same position as those Japanese players who often avoid arbitration. It is fantastic news if true though. It's pretty much what Andrew Miller and Rick Porcello got. It's a major league deal but that just means they have to be added to the 40 man roster and paid a major league wage, Dayan doesn't accrue any major league service time while playing for Birmingham so he'll be under team control for 6 major league seasons. I think everyone assumed there was a sign/release clause in both deals similar to that of a Japanese free agent but there isn't and that's why this is such big news.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Nice! So, what happens when their current contracts run out? Arbitration? Depends on their service time. Viciedo is under contract through 2012, assuming he spends the next 3 seasons in the majors (2010-2012) he'll be arbitration eligible in 2013. It goes from this: 2009: $1M 2010: $1.25M 2011: $1.25M 2012: $2.5M 2013: Free Agent to: 2009: $1M 2010: $1.25M 2011: $1.25M 2012: $2.5M 2013: Arbitration eligible 2014: Arbitration eligible 2015: Arbitration eligible 2016: Free Agent As for Alexei; 2012 and 2013 will be arbitration eligible seasons. This is great news. They can now take their sweet ass time with Dayan.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) There was a note on Viciedo but it wasn't performance related. http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/default.aspx Yep that's HUGE news. The Viciedo contract looks so much better.
