  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I'm pretty sure Fields is out of options, so he would likely have to pass through waivers and accept assignment to Charlotte if we went that route. Also, anyone find it ridiculous that we have Dye 3rd, Thome 4th, and PK 5th? Is it just me, or does it make too much sense to put Thome 3rd, PK 4th, and Dye 5th, with Quentin 6th? Konerko's been our best hitter this year, so why not try and capitalize on that? Think whatever you want of Thome, he's still getting on base at a great clip, and with the way we've been playing, we need to maximize our scoring oppurtunities. Dye did homer yesterday, but he's been in a bit of a funk, but we also need someone to protect Paulie as well. Soon pitchers are just gonna unintentianally intentianally walk Konerko to face AJ or Alexei instead. Fields has an option remaining.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) For a guy who get ripped as much as almost any player on this board, there was an interesting note on the scoreboard tonight. Jim Thome has the highest home run percentage in the AL since he joined the White Sox. He's up to .252/.379/.515/.894. He's still probably done, however.
  3. QUOTE (qwerty @ May 19, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) I demand people are in the chat today... no excuses. Yeah and where the f*** are you?
  4. Watching the Rays/Indians game right now and because of a clerical error by the Rays starting pitcher Andy Sonanstine will being hitting 3rd today, they've forfeited their DH. Both Longoria and Zobrist were written on the lineup card as third baseman (Longoria was supposed to DH) so because of this Longoria will start the game on the bench and the pitcher will have to hit for the remainder of the game. So in a 2009 American League game the day's starting pitcher will be hitting 3rd. Wacky.
  5. Just a hunch but I'm thinking this is where Ozzie threatens to quit.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Ugh, I hate benching Fields against a LHP. If he's going to come out of his slump, it will be with a lefty on the mound. I can't belive we didn't bring back Anderson just cause the 2nd game got rained out. According to Rongey, Fields much like Alexei last week has been "benched".
  7. Carl Crawford will not be a free agent this offseason after 2010, perhaps. You also don't give a 36 year designated hitter a 3 year deal, especially in this economy.
  8. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 14, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Good post. There almost better off just letting Dye, Thome and Contreras walk at the end of the year and just use the type a or b compensation when they leave via free agency. That would require offering those 3 players arbitration, something that will not be happening. (Dye is the only one that's even remotely possible)
  9. Josh Fields K% (K/AB): AAA: 2006: 526 PA, 29.4% (600 AB = 176.4 K) 2007: 249 PA, 29.3% (600 AB = 175.8 K) 2008: 318 PA, 35.5% (600 AB = 213.0 K) MLB: 2007: 418 PA, 33.5% (600 AB = 201.0 K) 2009: 129 PA, 33.9% (600 AB = 203.4 K) Current league average: 19.9% AL leaders: 1.) C. Davis: 46.0% 2.) J. Thome: 37.5% 3.) C. Pena: 34.1% 4.) J. Fields: 33.9% 5.) N. Swisher: 32.7%
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) s*** I didn't even know you could change numbers midseason. That's f***ed The right is normally reserved for star players but the White Sox have notoriously low standards.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) I'm a superstitious person myself even when I was playing ball. Josh really has to change it either back to #27, or go back to 22 when Pods is gone (BA and Wise come back) Preferably, like I said all season, please Josh... go back to #27 when you were putting up a .750+ ops When he wore #27 he played like we'd expect Josh Fields to play. When he wore #22 he played a lot like Scott Podsednik. He now wears #7 and he's producing like Jerry f***ing Owens.
  12. 3 for 23 w/ 11 K, 1 BB and 1 RBI since he changed his f***ing number. He's seen his OPS drop .086 points since that day. That's right, I'm blaming Podsednik!
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) I think Ozuna stole home when the pitcher made a pickoff attempt on the runner at first. Jeff Bagwell did that a few years ago.

    OMFG! OMFG!

Apparently today is Texsox's 6 year anniversary on the site. I also don't know how it's possible that I made 53 posts today, at least 45 of those had to have been in the game thread.
  15. Alright then I guess he wasn't done after all. 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP | 108 pitches, 57 strikes
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) From what I recall, he bombed at Minnesota and against Cleveland in the final series, but he pitched well in the make-up game against the Tigers. His postseason start was horrid. 2 quality starts. The Sox were 3-3 in his six outings. His wost outings came against the Angels, Royals and Twins. He was real good at Yankee Stadium and in his final start vs the Tigers. He didn't face the Indians
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Hard hit ball I hope? Something solid and in the gap, not a screw-up by the defense? Shot deep into the right center field gap, hit off the track. His single was to left center. Contreras: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP | 99 pitches, 52 strikes Not the most encouraging outing from Jose especially when you look at the Scranton WB lineup.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) PLEASE DON'T LET THE LILLICURSE STRIKE I think Chris Getz just fell down a flight of stairs.
  19. Brian Anderson just tripled off Casey Fossum.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) STOP IT JOSE. 74 pitches through 4, only 39 strikes.
  21. Through 4 innings in Scranton: Brian Anderson: 1 for 2 w/ 1B Jose Contreras: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K | 74 pitches: 39 strikes, 35 balls
  22. I'm curious as to how much it cost them to change all their signage from a warthog to a penis.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) In 2006 Anderson had roughly the same number of PA's and had a similar average...the only difference is Anderson had a couple home runs. .161/.264/.290/.554 through 72 PA for Brian .141/.235/.254/.488 through 81 PA for Brian at his lowest point .154/.247/.185/.431 through 74 PA for Brent At least Brian had a little pop. Lucky for him he turned it around right after he dipped into the sub .500's; 16 plate appearances later and his OPS was up over .600. Pretty damn good comparison though.
  24. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 13, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) He crapped his pants in the playoffs ala Javy Vazquez, not John Danks. Aren't those the "intangibles?" It also helps that he was near the top in run support last season. Gavin got THE best run support in the game last year. Last season in the AL 28 pitchers logged 180+ IP, Gavin Floyd got significantly more run support than the rest. Per 9 IP Gavin Floyd got 8.51 runs of support while the pitcher of record, #2 Mike Mussina got 7.82 and #16 John Danks got 6.51, two full runs less than Gavin. 1.) Floyd 8.51 2.) Mussina 7.82 3.) Garland 7.78 - 9.) Buehrle 7.00 10.) Vazquez 6.96 - 16.) Danks 6.51 - 24.) Byrd 6.00 - 28.) G. Smith 4.73
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Do you think Lillibridge is the worst hitter in modern Sox history? Honestly, given the amount of PA's he's already accumulated I'd say yes.
