  1. No way Bagwell gets in. Pudge Rodriguez is gonna have a hell of a time as well.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Turico and Van Pelt say the drug was a women's fertility drug, commonly taken when coming off a "cycle" of steroids or PEDs. Or maybe he just never paid attention in health class?
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 7, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) By the way, the new thread title/sub-title just makes you laugh. It's also not particularly true.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:34 AM) He's insanely bad and he's equally as bad when discussing football, but I'm sure he brings in the meatheads. You'd have to think the Hampton experiment would come to an end sometime soon. He hasn't improved one bit since he joined the station, it sure seems like he just doesn't have the chops for radio. His popularity with mustachioed, polish sausage eating old time Bears fans can only get him so far, there has to be some content and entertainment value in there at some point. Not to mention the fact that the whole station is having trouble competing with 1000.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 7, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) man, that would be an interesting turn if that's true. Anyone know how those work, medically, and how it might flag a positive test? Well he tested positive for a "banned substance" that's been referred to as "non-performance enhancing". So the drug simply contains a substance that is banned by baseball, not a stimulant and not believed to be a baseball performance enhancer. I'm also curious as to who the "source close to Ramirez" is. There's this guy who's name rhymes with "chorus" that's pretty close to Manny.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:49 AM) When Magglio first started with the Tigers, Boers and Bernstein had KW on the radio, and said "I didn't know that knee surgery would make your foreams so much bigger?" KW gave his creepy little laugh, and said no comment. It was pretty obvious that KW completely agreed with this. It's funny how it's joked about with certain players. Media members/baseball people are willing make their quasi-cryptic statements (coming just short of saying "so and so WAS on steroids) and speak openly about it when there isn't a mic in front of them but then vilified those who do test positive because they own a few records. It's almost accepted because they're not huge names.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) Cameron was caught correct? I know Belle and Cordero (NOT FAN FAVORITES have been caught), and i remember hearing something about James Baldwin and Roberto Hernandez, any confirmation? Cameron got busted for stimulant use. Canseco has already thrown Magglio's name out there, that's 1.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) I know Frank Thomas passes the eye test, and always has an out due to the football, but i'm very concerned that inevitably someone's going to go after him, or Griffey, or Thome. And we're all going to have to deal with the s***storm that this creates. Too often, we as White Sox fans, are able to remove ourselves from this as fans, i hope it stays this way. It's not like the Sox haven't had their fair share of probable users over the past 8 years, hell a couple of fan favorites get thrown out there quite often.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) It really is now, but when there was not testing and most guys were just using "common" steroids it could be used pretty evectively IMO. There's a certain muscle gain in the chest that is a decca tip-off, Alex Ochoa back in the day is one example of a guy that suddenly showed up with this type of gain, and a certain way muscles look since they're so blown up with fluid, ie the Giambi SI cover. However, now there are designer PEDs or smarter cycling, not guys just going crazy like they use to. Well that's different from what Fathom was talking about and I agree with you completely. The eye test from age 20 to age 35 is flawed and pretty much useless, now these guys who absolutely blow up over an offseason or short time span are a whole 'nother story. And very good point about the type of body change, when walking through a gym you can usually tell which guys are on a little something. Hell even back in high school it was pretty obvious which guys were getting a little outside help with their routine.
  10. QUOTE (JustWin @ May 7, 2009 -> 06:09 AM) Harden went 7+ innings yesterday and was hitting 96mph. If they were to go out and somehow get Peavy (who had 12 K's last night), that rotation would be sick. I really hope they don't sign Harden to a contract extension as he is one of the best pitchers in the game when healthy (and of course, so far with the Cubs he's been able to stay healthy). And with the Dodgers running away with the NL West, I really hope the Padres trade Peavy to some other team soon before the Cubs have a chance to get him. Until he learns to manage his pitch count and become a more efficient pitcher he'll never be one of the best pitchers in the game regardless of health. One of the most dominant for the first 3 to 5 innings of his starts? Sure but he's a bullpen killer, if you can't give your team 7 innings on a consistent basis then you can not anchor a rotation.
  11. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:16 AM) I dont really buy into the picture test 100 percent. My Dad looked a hell of a lot bulkier and bigger when you look at his pictures from 18-20 and compare them to 35-40 Most people do. Hell if you compare me now to how I looked even 2 years ago you'd have to assume I'm juicing. The eye test is more than flawed.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) That Red Sox team had so many questionable players....how about David Ortiz and his sudden power surge? Maybe it wasn't just a change in philosophy. Trot Nixon? That was about as obvious as Ben Davis. I have trouble finding any world series championship team over the past 20 years or so that didn't have at least one highly questionable figure.
  13. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) I bet Gammons says NOTHING and this goes to Olney He's gonna have to say something. Every Boston area radio station has to be knocking down his door for a comment right now.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) Boy, I'm probably going to catch a ton of flack for this, but I think there's many people in the media, Gammons included, who got a free pass for not red flagging the steroid era earlier. So many of them just bought the "increased workout" program at face value when if they went to their local gym and asked a rookie personal trainer they could have obtained some great insight. He'll try and spin the Manny excuse or that he wasn't doing it in '04 or '07 No, you're right and a few media members have come out and said as much. That they ignored the obvious signs during the 90's when they should have been reporting it. Gammons will simply take Manny's word for it: a prescription drug triggered the positive test, Manny's no juicer.
  15. So what's Gammon's gonna say about this? Will he be forced to defend Manny, a player whom he's called out and ripped apart over the past year? If Manny is dirty then it taints both Sawx Championships.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) The problem is...he keeps being right. There keep being rumors about the right guys. Players aren't stupid. Well of course he's right. Any cynical baseball fan could have put together a pretty good list of names back in 2003, he's just willing to put those names in a book.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) Canseco can forget a lot of things if you give him some money. He's also not a damn psychic, he doesn't know about every player in the game. A lot of his "outings" have been the result of hearsay and guess work. He's just willing to throw names out there because he truly has nothing to lose at this point.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:55 AM) Actually, we really haven't heard it like this in baseball. Most of the other high-profile players have been proven to have been using steroids. Not something their doctor provided that is now banned because MLB went and banned everything carried in the GNC as an overreaction to the events of the past 5-10 years. Why is it that this happens in the NFL and no one blinks an eye? So now Manny is no longer the best hitter of his generation? I'm not buying it. If the NFL leaned as heavily on history, records and comparing players of different eras as baseball does then the NFL would be in bigger trouble.
  19. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) Didn't Canseco and Thomas play together on the Sox? If so, I think Canseco would have said something. As for Manny...not surprised at all which is a sad state for a baseball fan to be in. Frank wasn't even with the team when Canseco joined, that's why they signed Canseco because Frank was hurt. Jose wasn't here for long, Canseco is a hell of a detective if he can be in clubhouse for a month or two and come away from it definitively knowing the cleanliness of all his teammates.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:37 AM) This will make it enormously more difficult to cheer for the Dodgers to beat the Cubs's tails if they both make the playoffs again. Unless we're foolishly assuming that the majority of the league is clean then I don't really see what it matters. Unless we're just giving the benefit of the doubt to anyone who has yet to test positive which you really can not do.
  21. Eh, can't say it really bothers me anymore.
  22. That begs the question; if Wise comes back at the end of May does he automatically get a roster spot? If Anderson is still hitting and Pods is doing his usual act what happens with Wise when he's ready to return? Do we say goodbye to Podsednik because you can't lose a job due to injury?
  23. I really don't think they're going to play this thing.
  24. Rory Fitzpatrick finished 3rd in voting amongst western conference defensemen in '07, he finished the season with 7 points. He was something like 25,000 votes shy of a starting spot. Of course it's believed that the NHL just rigged the voting to keep him out of the game which is likely exactly what the MLB would do if Milledge were voted a starter.
