  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 2, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) KW will not send him down! Sure he will. He's not going to send Contreras out there every fifth day to get destroyed, he'll make a move and I have a feeling this is just about it for Jose if I had to put money on it I'd say he hits the DL before his next scheduled start.
  2. At this point I'm almost willing to bet that Jose spends a little time in the minors this season. He does have an option remaining. Since he's accumulated over 5 years of service he'll have to consent to any reassignment but with the way he's pitching he won't have much of an argument if KW chooses to go that route.
  3. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....-part-ways.html Glad I never have to watch him play baseball again. Good luck in your future endeavors, Jerry. The Atlantic League is calling your name.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 2, 2009 -> 02:12 AM) Ozzie is not a stats guy. IMO (and I can give two s***s what Hawk says) he is a micromanager. It isn't even about stats, anyone who's been watching the Sox over the past 2 months (dating back to last September) knows that Chris Getz has had no trouble handling left handed pitching in his short time in the majors. I can't wait until he's 30 years old and a strict platoon player because his f***ing manager stunted his growth early in his career. Can't say I didn't see this coming though. Oh and after last night, his career line vs lefties is looking like this: 2/3 vs Brian Tallet (who shut us down) 0/0 vs Craig Breslow (HBP) 0/1 vs Ron Mahay 0/1 vs Dan Meyer (K) 0/1 vs Bill Murphy 1/1 vs Josh Newman (RBI) 0/0 vs Jaimie Walker (RBI SF) 1/1 vs Derek Holland (RBI 3B) 0/1 vs C.J. Wilson ------------------- 4/9 (.444) w/ 3 RBI, 3B, HBP, K
  5. f***ing lame. He's a former first round pick, our starting 3B and #2 hitter and yet he's relinquishing his number to our 4th CF who signed a minor league contract 2 weeks ago and hasn't been a starting caliber player since 2005. Unfortunately Josh didn't have much of a choice.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2009 -> 06:41 AM) Great job by both Mark and the pen in locking in down to a very dangerous offensive team. It was also really nice to see a win without hitting a homer. Yes because if Jim Thome's double landed 6 inches higher and got out of the park that would have been a bad thing.
  7. QUOTE (tommy @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Win and no dingers for us. Thank god Thome's 2B didn't get out or this would be just another game in which we relied upon the big HR.
  8. When it comes to the fan base who is more of a polarizing figure: A.) Scott Podsednik B.) Jim Thome
  9. Haha, Podsednik with a basehit to RIGHT off a LEFT handed pitcher. Don't know how he did it.
  10. QUOTE (hawkubes @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) Actually according to baseball-refence.com Dewayne Wise has been a plus defender throughout his career (including 2008), and Anderson has been about average according to their calculations. Wise's total fielding runs above avg. was 4.0 and Anderson's was -1.8 in 2008. In 5 years in the outfield, anderson is .5 runs above average, while Wise is 9.0 runs above average in his 6 seasons in the outfield. I know everybody's gonna jump all over this, but it's statistical analysis. I think Dewayne Wise is a lot better out there than people give him credit for. I actually voted for Terrero, and got to thinking that Wise really hasn't been that bad. I got curious and checked out the stats, of the ones I checked out, Wise and Erstad were the best according to those numbers. By the way, Swisher is atrocious (-14.8 last year) and Ryan Sweeney is also below average according to this analysis. Eh, people stopped sighting FRAA when UZR and PMR become readily available.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) Very nice...Fields waiting back on that is going to raise my blood pressure. He had to quickly sling that thing across the field, lucky he didn't put it in the 5th row behind Konerko.
  12. That was intense. Nicely done Scott, you lucky son of a b****.
  13. Frightening swing and finish from Andruw Jones right there on the breaking ball up. I have no idea how that stayed in the yard.
  14. How the f*** can Hawk say that? Seriously? Jermaine has a top 2 defensive RF in the AL this year? You know this how? Hawk just knows That he's better than Nelson Cruz, Michael Cuddyer, Alex Rios or NICK f***ING MARKAKIS? Give me a break.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Hopefully Ozzie wasn't watching and didn't know Getz did that against a LHP. Now 4 for 8 with 3 RBI in his big league career against left handed pitching. I was actually somewhat surprised we didn't see Jayson Nix right there. I'm sure he'll get his chance on Sunday.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) If a pitcher just hits Thome's bat, it can do major damage. He's absolutely incredible. He missed badly on that first pitch fastball but his swing on the double was a thing of beauty. I f***ing love that big lug.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Damn, that missed by a foot. Hell of a job Thome! Less than a foot. I was dead wrong about Jim, if he can drive the ball like that then he needs to be in the lineup. I will never doubt him again.
  18. Jesus f***ing christ Thome, he just missed that. f***ing 2 feet.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Thome will K This is false, he will sky out to shallow right center.
  20. If I were Feldman I'd just put CQ on. Take my chances with a hobbling Thome.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) What has he done for Fields and Anderson? Up to this point, both of them have severely underachieved in the majors and have huge holes in their swing. A couple of mid first round picks.
  22. I think Podsednik's presence at the bottom of the lineup just sparked Chris Getz, hence the single.
