  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) Mahay, Cruz, or even Soria with the game in the balance there. Also, as Ozzie is talking about it here, why did Cox send Jermaine after we scored our first run? The man was out as soon as Cox waived his hand. 2 years, $9.25M for Farnsworth at the beginning of free agency. What an awful, awful deal.
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Also, I ask that mods only change the score. The reason why I placed Official Post Game Thread Winner, was because it seems like a lot of people will only post "AWESOME - THOMEZ WUZ THE MANZ". I wanted to try something different where people actually talk about the game, both good and bad. Just an idea. Agreed and fixed.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) I don't see what Josh Fields did today that Crede cannot. I'm not trying to start a war or anything, and I like Fields at 3B now that he's healthy. Also, Quentin's swing seemed a bit long. Fields has a quicker swing it seems like. I really really like Getz as well. 800 career games played for Joe and not a single bunt hit. If third basemen are going to play Josh back like Gordon did today, it's nice to know that Josh is willing and capable of dropping down a bunt and beating it out with that good speed of his. And post 2006 Crede could NEVER make the play Josh did on the throw home.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) It's amazing how much more work I get done by not posting in the game thread. Great to see Thome pick up from last year, and excellent work by the bullpen. It's not worth getting upset about Wise, as that experiment won't last long if he struggles like he did today. Of more concern is the irresponsible base running we saw in Spring Training that continued today. It's always great to win the first game though...well done Sox! Jeff Cox is leaving his mark on this club.
  5. Thank god for Jim Thome. Josh Fields did a couple of things today that our last 3B couldn't DREAM of doing (that's the last time I'll compare the two.) Getz is going to be a hell of a player for us, can't wait until we find a major league hitter to pair with him at the top. Richard, Dotel, Jenks -> excellence
  6. Bobby is throwing real hard. The bullpen has been incredible today. *knock on wood*
  7. I really don't get Ozzie, this is the 3rd year in a row that he's refused to substitute Brian late in ballgames. Whether it's Pods heading a ball in LF in Oakland or Swisher showing off miserable range late in games in April of last year, Ozzie prefers to wait until May to start using Brian as a late game defensive replacement.
  8. Jim Thome is the f***ing man. I can't articulate just how much I love him. Always have, always will. There is nothing I'd like more than to see him get a ring this season whether it's with us or another team he's dealt to at the break, he deserves to experience that joy before retires.
  9. He's having a bad day because he's an awful baseball player, Hawk.
  10. I f***ing hate bunting. Wilson Betemit should be hitting in this situation.
  11. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) What was his BABIP in the second half? .214 in the first half .304 in the second half

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Sounds like you've got a freaky huge melon. Perhaps he's been partaking in Brain and Nerve Tonic rich in proteins and electromagnetic juices.
  13. April 4th, 2005: Opening Day at the Cell, 64 degrees and sunny, Buehrle and Shingo shutout the Indians 1-0 in a game that lasted just 1 hour and 51 minutes. Probably one of the more enjoyable games I've ever attended.
  14. Not only did the Mariners move Brandon Morrow to the bullpen (he's now looked at as their franchise closer) but 2007 golden armed first round pick Phillippe Aumont has also been moved to the Class A+ High Desert Mavericks' bullpen in an effort to fast track him to the majors. Some bizarre moves coming out of Seattle.
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) Is the guy on the far right Alesi? If so, why is he wearing the wrong helmet. A.) Yes it's Alexei and B.) You're not supposed to notice s*** like that
  16. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) By the way, the new banner is bad A********!! Do the edges of the graphic blend with the gray background of the header for you? The gray below the "S" should be the same as the gray to the left of it.
  17. Matt Clement plans to retire from baseball.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) I was just joking about Lillibridge, I think he's actually closer to 560 for OPS...there probably aren't many who have pulled that off in 250-300 or more AB's. Taveras would probably be one, or Jerry Owens if he had enough AB's in 2007. It's my REVERSE psychology of demonstrating how/why Lillibridge isn't THAT bad. If Michael Steele can do it, so can I!!! Andy LaRoche put up a .508 OPS in 252 PA last year and Omar Vizquel finished at .550 in 300 PA. Brent Lillibridge could conceivably be that bad. He's put up a .579 OPS in spring training and in reality he had no business hitting that well given his 1 walk and .364 BABIP. His .638 OPS at AAA and .576 during his short callup last year doesn't instill much confidence either.
  19. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) I understood that, it's just that he would be far from the first to post a sub .600 ops in 250 at-bats in a season There were 8 last year alone (with 4 others at 225+ AB)
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) I wonder if that Sox lineup they have posted on there will be our opening day lineup? Every year our park looks better and better!! Thank you US Cellular! Ozzie has already named Getz his #2 hitter and backup leadoff hitter.
  21. "What's the big deal? He's only guaranteed to leadoff an inning once a game." The rallying call of the baseball retarded. I'm looking at you Scott f***ing Merkin who just compared Dewayne f***ing Wise to Grady f***ing Sizemore.
  22. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) I would be a lot more excited if blanco was anything special. He walks well and that is the end of his game offensively. Don't get me started on his stealing ability. How about baseball reference with the upgrade? Much smoother looking. Yeah they had a Beta version of the new site available for a few weeks now, this new version is pretty incredibly. A LOT of new information/numbers available, there really is no better reference site on the net, I find it shocking that people still use ESPN or Sportsline for individual player statistics.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) He might backup Chris Simms. Yesterday Arkush put his money on Simms winning that competition in training camp.
  24. A note for DBAH0 & JPN mainly; Jordan Schafer has officially won the Braves starting CF/leadoff job so Gregor Blanco will start the year in AAA.
