  1. Lillibridge really has no business making a major league roster based on his bat alone, lucky for him he's versatile. He's still sitting at a 1/23 BB/K ratio for the spring which makes his .253 AVG shockingly high given his .356 BABIP. He's also shown very little base stealing ability going 1/3 in SB so far. Dewayne Wise and Brian Anderson leading off will be bad enough, sticking Brent Lillibridge at the top of the order would only exasperated matters (though I doubt this will keep Ozzie from trying it out). It's a shame this team has no other utilityman options (I guess until Nix gets back) because Brent belongs in AAA.
  2. I'm definitely in. Don't particularly care what team I get though I suppose I'm partial to the Braves.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) I decided to throw this together on a slow day at the office... I'll use it in a sig soon. That's awesome.
  4. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) If you're saying that Cowley predicts Alexei to win the GG at short this season based on his write-up in today's Sun-Times, I think you're looking too deeply into this. He assigned all of the major awards to Sox players including the MVP to Josh Fields. I'm pretty sure this was based entirely on the players' ST performances. It was just some filler to hold us over until Monday. Good call. Title changed. This is why we LINK to stories when we post blurbs. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox03.article
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) The Palmerio one was the worst, IMO. I don't recall his total games that year, but, it was really small. Complete joke. 28 games, a little over 240 innings if I recall correctly.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) I know, but the soda just looked so lonely by itself I had to post something else with it. The bacon soda was just someone from Deviant Art (a terrific site by the way) screwing around with photoshop (It's a Dr. Pepper bottle/can).
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) I'm hoping Comcast Chicago adds that s*** in HD ASAP. Channel 233, added 2 days ago.
  8. Last year's American League Gold Glove winning SS just got moved to third base in favor of a 20 year old who's never played a game above AA. If Alexei puts up an .800+ OPS with a couple of big homeruns and a few glove flips from across the diamond the GG should be his. Only 1 time in the last 5 years has the AL SS GG not gone to a 3B masquerading as a SS.
  9. Prince is beginning to look more and more like Mo Vaughn.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) I remember Brian hitting a double to score what seemed like a meaningless run late in the season, but the Sox ended up winning by 1 at the end. Clearly, this means BA is a fantastic player. What's "sample size" mean? April 26th, 2008. Brian walks it off against he Orioles and even the great Joe Crede looks on in awe, Brian Anderson: Uber-Clutch.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) They brought on Cabrera last season who's one of the better defensive SS's in the game (albeit he replaced Uribe, but that was more down to Uribe's terrible offense). And obviously Fields is a downgrade at 3B, but it's not like Crede had his best defensive season out there last year either. Getz should be decent enough at 2B, while Ramirez is the wildcard at SS obviously ebcause no-one knows how he's going to do. My point is, in the past they have placed a premium on defense, but most of the top defensive guys like Crede and Uribe were your low OBP high SLG guys, and the Sox already have enough of those, so they've replaced the ones they can and probably downgraded on defense because of it. So what you're saying is that back in say '05 they put a nice premium on defense with above average defenders at 3B, SS and CF but now put more of a premium on offense since they've replaced those players with lesser defensive talent (with "lesser" being a very, very generous word) with more offensive upside (sans Wise)?
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) He put up a RZR of .857 last season in LF and .917 in CF. Albeit it's obviously a very small sample size but the league averages were; LF - .853 CF - .896 And his UZR/150 was -16.8 in CF and -15 in left which fits perfectly as to what we saw last year.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) Remember how much we complained about Pods playing LF also. Like we didn't do the same with Wise last September/October? He looked clueless out there.
  14. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Defense has always been a premium for the Sox. Seriously? We don't have a single guaranteed above average defender on this club and last year's team was one of the worst defensively in the game. We've trotted out nothing but below average defenders in CF since Rowand left (sans Anderson). This is a horrible defensive team, if they truly put a premium on defense then they're even more incompetent than I thought.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) So wait, it's not just Wise, it's an Anderson/Wise CF Platoon where they're both going to be leading off? Interestingly, Wise did walk more times per PA than Alexei last year. By quite a bit. But Brian Anderson alternating at leadoff? QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) There's no doubt in my mind that Brian will get a few chances to prove that he's not a leadoff hitter in the month of April. There's little doubt in my mind that Ozzie will be hitting him there against Francisco Liriano and Cliff Lee. This organization is run by fools. It doesn't matter if Wise walked more often than Alexei, one is probably going to hit around .240-.250 this year and the other around .300. So even despite his awful walk rate Alexei will almost undoubtedly finish with a much higher OBP. Yes putting bad hitters at the top of your lineup maximizes your scoring opportunities, that makes a lot of f***ing sense.
  16. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) In other words something you do not want out of your dh. High side i can see him anywhere from .810-830... if he were to click. Yep, with 40 HR, 240 K and an IsoD of ~.70. In other words: .250/.320/.500/.820, he'd have to have an astronomical BABIP.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) What kind of OPS do you think he'd put up in the big leagues if he had the DH role? Maybe ~.730-.750 but with a ~.230 ISO and a 40%+ K rate. That's assuming it doesn't click for him.
  18. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) We are a little short a 1B considering there has to be a better than 25% chance that PK does at least one stint on the 15 this season... especially if he is struggling. Also, if we are rebuilding or at least kind of rebuilding, wouldn't you prefer your backup corner infielder have the upside McPhereson has? He is a slam dunk for me. Ask any stat idiot and they will tell you that you can book him for 25+ HR in 450 at bats. No doubt. He's a lot like Jack Cust in that there was never any doubt that if given a full time job he'd hit 25 or 30 homeruns in any stadium in baseball you just have to hope that he doesn't kill you with the rest of his quite unpolished game (since getting his shot post-30 Cust has proven to be an incredibly valuable player). I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Dallas McPherson in Charlotte this season (hitting maybe 50 HR) than Ben Broussard he just has no business ever playing the hot corner again.
  19. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) I hate Owens, I puke at even the idea of him starting 100+ games in CF, and I really am not trying to play devil's advocate when I say: Owens HAD to be the plan right? Or at least an Owens/Anderson platoon? If so, what the hell did he do any differently this spring training than he has in the past? In fact I thought he looked better in CF than ever... Is this the first time Kenny actually watched him play?? If Owens was the plan, what happened in his 61 at-bats to warrant cutting him in favor of a player with zero upside who somehow is even a worse defender??? I think Kenny truly believed that one of Owens/Lillibridge would have a solid spring and justify being given the leadoff job (especially Brent, I think he had HUGE expectations for him). Nothing has changed I'm sure Kenny Williams is just as irrationally enamored with Jerry Owens today as he ever was, the problem is he and Ozzie just could not justify giving the starting CF/leadoff job to someone who looked as clueless/nonthreatening at the plate as Owens did this spring.
  20. The fact that Dallas McPherson is still looked at as a third baseman is just stunning to me.
  21. Christ another error. This time Betemit.
  22. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) jordan danks with a hit That was kind of awesome.
  23. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) All these webcasts have nothing to do with professional productions or anything to do with the MLB. THey are just something that the Whitesox put together so the fans could see a White Sox game. So, quit your b****ing and be glad we get to see Sox ST at all. Holy f*** people have been in a b****ing mood of late and the season hasnt' even started. How miserable. You choose to get upset about the strangest things.
  24. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) scott merkin I miss Bill. Merkin is fine I guess but he's soooo boring.
  25. Who the hell is this doing color?
