Danks' agent positioning him in J. Lester territory
Kalapse replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) greedy two faced mother f***er. If he really wants to stay in Chicago, sign the deal. Be a man, don't hide behind your agent. Like he's ever going to spend $15 mil. That's probably more than his parents made their whole lives. Too soon? Do moderately intelligent Sox fans even think that way anymore? I remember with the Buehrle situation in '07 it sure seemed like the fan base came down hard on the organization, putting an awful lot of pressure on Williams/Reinsorf to get a deal done. -
Danks' agent positioning him in J. Lester territory
Kalapse replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Doesn't he share agents with Buehrle? Also, imagine if Boras was still his agent. I do think that Danks wants to try and stay in Chicago. Yes. And there's no reason for John Danks to ask for any less than Jon Lester money right now. Meaning about 18.5M guaranteed over 4 years or $30M over 5 years. Another great season and that number only goes up to possibly Cole Hamels money, $20.5M over 3 years. -
Thank you all. I really appreciate it.

I share a birthday with Norris Hopper, Robinson Tejada, Corey Hart, Dustin McGowan, Chad Gaudin, Steve Karsay, Wilson Alvarez, Bruce Hurst, Garry Templeton, Jesus Alou and George Sisler. I'm also only a day off from such Sox legends as Mark Buehrle, Jon Link and Neal Cotts.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) How about one of the 10 worst players with at least 400 at bats (not sure how many he had exactly. But I know he had at least that many)? If you can find 10 players worse, I'll give you your props. And I wasn't trying to subtract his best month. Just pointing out, and the numbers obviously prove that it was that month, and only that month, that he didn't look like the 2k version of Dan Pasqua. Michael Bourn Khalil Greene C. Izturis Bobby Crosby Jeff Francoeur Jeff Keppinger Jose Castillo Freddy Sanchez Daric Barton Gary Matthews Jr. Emil Brown Bill Hall Yuniesky Betancourt Edgar Renteria That's gotta be at least 10.

There's a lot more but I left out some of the better defenders at premium positions, elite baserunners and incredibly versatile defenders. I also just glossed over some names who were probably worse.

It hasn't even been brought up since you added the game to your list of things that suck. I've only been able to play a few games since it came out but I love it and I'm definitely still interested in the league.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Yeah, not really. To the poster... Azereus and uTorrent are very good and usually the recommended software of choice for private trackers. I prefer uTorrent because it uses less RAM, but I run it all day and every day to seed. Most private trackers won't even let you download their torrents unless you're using uTorrent or Azereus.

The Rays returned Derek Rodriguez to the Sox after taking him in the Rule V draft.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) I dont think we saw him enough there last year. For offense and defense, people act as if we had Wise as a starting CF for a whole year. I'm not saying it'll be a strength but I dont know that it's a giant weakness for him over the course of the next year. I remember a bad moment or two last year, but I wont judge until I see a larger sample size. No one would argue he's a worldbeater. Just saying he's better than the other two CF options. I still haven't seen a convincing argument as to why this is the case.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) He has shown more of an ability to get hot than the other two candidates. They're all poor hitters. One has shown he can hit in the clutch. Seeing as how he'll lead the team in plate appearances each game, I'll take that over the other two options, as long as defense will remain decent at the position. More of an ability to get hot? In what regard? He had 2 small hot streaks last year, both of which were followed by even longer debilitating cold streaks. What player in baseball isn't capable of that? Hell Anderson had more than a few 1 or 2 week stretches in '06 where he teared the cover off the ball. And when exactly did he show an ability to hit the clutch? Wasn't last year.

Memories lie, often. That's why we have things like game logs so we're not relying solely on memory like that hack Cowley. Wise had 1 truly "big" hit in September (not counting his 2 for 7 performance in the playoffs) and even that came in the bottom of the 8th in a tied game against a last place team off an awful reliever. Handing a career minor leaguer 31 year old a starting job because he turned on a straight fastball from Kyle Farnsworth in mid-september sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Tonight's Chicagosports article says he's leading for the utility spot. I wonder, if Chris Getz suffered an injury tomorrow would we have a Tony Pena Jr. situation on our hands with Lillibridge?
-
Wow, what a brutal box score. I see Brent Lillibridge -- who's only purpose on the ML squad would be his defense -- committed 2 errors today he now has 3 on the spring, he also K'd a few times putting his spring BB/K at 1/20 extrapolate that over 600 AB and it comes out to 12 walks compared to 240 strikeouts. I'm not sure I've ever seen a .05 BB/K before. Hey, if he goes 0-4 w/ 4 K in his next game (hardly out of the realm of possibility) he'll have twice as many K's as total bases. I believe that's the definition of overmatched.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) There's no 82 listed here... http://www.springtrainingmagazine.com/cwsroster.html That's because it's likely a player from minor league camp.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I'd prefer we locked up Danks. He's going to cost significantly more money.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) For fun, read through the thread when MacDougal signed an extension buying out his arbitration years http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55799 I'm an idiot.
-
My Guess: 2009: $500K 2010: $2.5M 2011: $5M 2012: $7M 2013: $9.5M team option, $500K buyout (first year of Free Agency)
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) None. Do we know there's no options involved because this is an incredibly risky move with only a moderate payoff if there aren't. Alright there's an option for 2013. That makes much more sense.

QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Haha, do you think Hahn actually reads Cowley? Now we're hearing we might all be disappointed with the "big news." And Rick Hahn has informed me that my sources stink. Thanks for reading Rick. Now go get a leadoff hitter and get back to me. That's actually pretty funny since I can't think of anything more disappointing than Juan Pierre.
-
Joe Cowley is a f***ing idiot, I don't even know why I bother reading his f***ing Twitter.
-
It would be fitting; preach OBP at the top for the entire offseason then acquire an incredibly expensive player with a sub .330 OBP over the past 4 years in the national league to take the spot.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Please be a trade for a CF not named Pierre or Podsednik According to Cowley it could be Pierre. He says the source isn't a very good one, however. Just kill me now.
-
He's just as much of a leadoff hitter as Dewayne Wise, perhaps it's a matter of equality since Wise is the frontrunner for the leadoff job vs righties.
-
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) isn't Lillibridge a plus defender? Supposedly, at short. He's also been by far the most offensively inept regular in camp and had a horrible season in AAA last year.
