  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) Feel sorry for him. (But) I wonder why pitchers with his kind of talent don't just develop an easy throwing motion. I'm no ptatc but his style of pitching just looks painful to the arm/elbow to me. It's really, really, really difficult and rare to be Matt Thornton.
  2. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:25 PM) Yeah, looks like Malone imploded in 2002 and Honel in 2004... There's definitely a conflation of seasons. 2001 is a hot spot: 2001 #1 Jon Rauch #2 Joe Borchard #3 Joe Crede #4 Matt Ginter #5 Dan Wright #6 Lorenzo Barcelo #7 Brian West #8 Aaron Rowand #9 Josh Fogg #10 Jason Stumm #11 Aaron Myette #12 Gary Majewski #13 Jeff Liefer #14 Rocky Biddle #15 Corwin Malone 2002: #1 Joe Borchard #2 Jon Rauch #3 Corwin Malone #4 Matt Guerrier #5 Joe Crede #6 Tim Hummel #7 Kris Honel #8 Miguel Olivo #9 Dennis Ulacia #10 Aaron Rowand #11 Edwin Almonte #12 Matt Ginter #13 Brian West #14 Casey Rogowski #15 Wyatt Allen Man, I really liked Hummel and Rogo.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) It was the #1 system right around 2000. Scouting wasn't what it was today, however, and not many of those players turned into much. That system had no Moncada, Jimenez or Kopech either. 2000 Sox top 10: #1 Kip Wells #2 Jon Garland #3 Aaron Myette #4 Joe Crede #5 Jason Stumm #6 Aaron Rowand #7 Matt Ginter #8 Dan Wright #9 Lorenzo Barcelo #10 Mark Buehrle That's actually not bad. Getting a Garland, Crede, Rowand and Buehrle out of your top 10 is pretty damn good. Of course, points docked for Danny Wright, statistically one of the worst pitchers of all time given how many innings he threw.
  4. Heh, I do appreciate a 295 million dollar guaranteed commitment being described as "controllable". Any player is controllable if you're willing to guarantee enough money.
  5. I'm pretty sure I destroyed Tim Anderson's career.
  6. Sooooo anyone still doubting the rebuild is real at this point?
  7. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) Can someone tell me about the infielders? Filler
  8. This is the craziest damn thing that's ever happened.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Has Q been bad on extended rest? 4 days: 77 starts, 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 102 OPS+ against 5 days: 67 starts, 3.26 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 99 OPS+ against 6+ days: 23 starts, 3.61 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 94 OPS+ against So very similar results on 6+ days to the standard 4 days.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) But who would have envisioned this current 2 for 31? Wouldn't the law of averages suggest a .340 hitter do much better than the current 2 for 31 even if BABIP had to come back to earth? If Avi goes 2 for 31 in his next 31, he'll be back to being a horses*** hitter by old, conventional stats, BA and RBI. You'd be well served to actually read the posts you quote because you clearly don't, seriously, just give up and move on. Either you're getting your jollies or you're impossibly ignorant. This site has so many good posters who present actual facts to support their arguments and it makes for good discussion then you jump in with a high level, obtuse, oh gosh garbage post, congrats that's around 5000 in a row, you're very gifted at not understanding things. Please just stop. Referencing the fact that people hate your insanely ignorant opinions in 1/3 of your posts doesn't earn you brownie points, you just suck. Please, actually do a modicum of research on ANYTHING or just leave. It's not fun, you're just a nuisance. Literally no one enjoys this s***. If you actually gave a s*** about learning baseball you could have here, instead you just tucked your head up your ass and trolled.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) And Moncada homers! RH HR
  12. With Putnam having TJS that takes care of the 40 man crunch, currently stands at 43 with 3 guys on the 60 day so someone had to be removed or moved to 60 day ahead of Rodon being activated.
  13. This is a classic Kenny Williams trade. Grabbing the guy he was enamored with (Dunn) and the insane athlete (LaVine).

This is what regression to the mean looks like.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) Seems to be focusing on command tonight, as velocity is near 90 (adjusted for slow gun) Expect a super boring line tonight: low K, low BB, some hits, he looks pretty sharp given his approach.
  16. Man, I've missed Carlos Rodon.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) 10 years ago today, Flight of the Conchords premiered on HBO. One of my all time favorite shows. It's on Amazon Prime in case you haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. It's absurd how well this show holds up today, it's still so, so good.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) It's also like Caulfield said - not often you see someone launch a ball foul then follow it up with something more monstrous http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...200307020.shtml The Konerko game from '03. Frank hit one like 450 and just missed the foul pole earlier in the at bat then launched the walk off shot on pitch #11 from Guardado. God was that an incredible experience being there.
  19. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) http://www.theolympian.com/sports/high-sch...e155989344.html Seems like Abbott is going to sign... Man, assuming he signs Abbott's development is going to be fascinating. Hard not to actually get excited about the pick after reading that, Cummings clearly saw something special in him.
  20. QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) So I just got back to the house and look at the box score. Pelphrey 3.2 innings with 6 hits and 5 BBs and only 2 runs. Wow. He certainly lived dangerous tonight I guess. He's been in the league for 10 years.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) This is correct. Wouldn't mind tv if they didn't wait past the pick and just let the tickets do the work. Talk about the players when they want. You can't trade picks in baseball so the draft board should tell you within 15 seconds who you're taking, so it should be immediate, the idea that some picks are taking 8 minutes to be announced because they're busy showing video or Harold Reynolds is saying some dumb s*** drives me nuts. 3 (strict) minutes per pick, first 15 picks, then 1:30 minute per through 30, then rapid fire.
  22. Remember when the entire draft lasted like 5 hours with each pick in rapid succession over teleconference? That s*** was the best. I know it's obvious but this is the craziest made-for-tv bulls*** in sports, worse than the Super Bowl. They took something great and turned it into a 3 day "event" for no f***ing reason, 99.999% of the baseball fans out there have no idea who these guys are beyond maybe the first 15 top players, there's zero reason to spread this s*** out over 3 days. Who's watching MLB Network day 3? f***ing hell this is stupid.
