QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) I never mentioned Luis Robert, I know Law doesn't like him (although he hasn't seen him play) for whatever reason. I was referring to the podcast and tweet from today. It's important to note that you substantially edited the opening post to this thread.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Bingo. As fathom said in another thread, he wasn't a fan of Robert months ago. The timeline is typically bastardized in these situations. Confirmation bias has a strong pull.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) This may have been a joke / clickbait but he has a very long track record of openly disparaging anything concerning the organization. His Luis Robert scouting report has jack-all to do with the White Sox, same with Chris Sale, he's a hard-headed, highly opinionated ex-scout with a large platform.

You do know he's kidding, right? He's been getting tweets from Sox fans all day asking why he hates the Sox because they read his write-up on Robert whom he's been less than impressed with since this whole thing started. The only national writer I've ever thought really had an anti-Sox lean was Dayn Perry though I can't remember the specifics so it may have just been youthful naivete.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) Good post, not too worried about him yet. All along, willie has been saying he's great on defense but has a ton to learn offensively Once Basabe figures it out at the plate, it will then be his turn.

May 21st Game Thread: White Sox @Seattle Mariners

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) What do you think of the picks of Fulmer and Rodon and Beckham? Isn't this the same regime? You loss lovers slay me. To be a fan and want your team to lose is so bizarre. What do non statniks in your life think of this silliness? What are your thoughts on the 7th instead of 8th pick in the '15 draft? -
And just like that you feel a whole lot better about the system's position talent, still not deep by any means but damn this is huge.

That's pretty damn impressive.

Davidson is going to stick in the same way as Holmberg; teams will need specialists. They'll make carriers out of it.

May 15th Game Thread; White Sox at LAAOA

Could have Norris ejected for all the pine tar on his hat that he keeps touching. -
.318/.362/.500/.862 Why is this May guy festering in AAA?
-
QUOTE (Scoots @ May 15, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) Yeah...not sure why he picked either one of those two...let alone double downing on them. 1 and 2 hitters with the highest batting averages in the Jays' order, at home going up against a 43 year old starter with a near 7 ERA.

Moncada K Delmonica 2 run shot Engel with another double

Asche's gone, open to thoughts.

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 12, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Could you expand on that? I don't know either of those measures. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/wsb/ It's combined with UBR and wGDP to create BsR which makes up the baserunning portion of fWAR.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 12, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) And in the same vein, you can score someone from 2nd with a single and then promptly getting caught stealing. I had this same thought several years back and came to the same conclusions. Frankly, it's best to try and figure out what players do invidually throughout their time on the field (batting, baserunning, fielding, and pitching) and then use a cumulative number to try and gauge that player's value, which is how we come up with WAR. How to actually quantify those comes under scrutiny, because there are things it does not account for that perhaps it could, but they are always looking to improve their methodology in that regard. The funny thing is Fangraphs once had a hitting + SB stat in wOBA however they removed SB and CS years ago for, I believe, the very reason you mentioned.

Shovel Knight is a GREAT game. One of the best platformers I've ever played.

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 12, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) This is totally random, and apropos of nothing, but is there any advanced stat that accounts for SBs when looking at a player's OPS? The way I'm thinking about it, if a player gets a single and then steals a base, that could be looked at as a double. Therefore, someone like Billy Hamilton, who is 19 for 21 in SB attempts, adds a net value of +17 once on base. So, while his normal OPS is a mediocre .671, his SB-adjusted OPS (SB differential + TBs / ABs) is a pretty solid .793. What do ya'll think? A single + SB is not equal to a double, you can't score a runner from first on a single and a SB.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 11, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Delmonico, Fulmer, Lopez, & Burdi too. Those four, Moncada, Anderson, & hopefully Rodon at some point should be enough to keep me watching regularly. Burdi's gonna be cool. I like Lopez, I'm intrigued by delmonico but expectations are very tempered, Fulmer's a wild card but I'll definitely tune in. I think you listed them in order of future value: meh+, solid, good, awesome.
