QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) Have you ever heard of a guy named Adam Eaton? Anderson won't be anything more than a 4th outfielder and that's if he even makes the team (which is unlikely). And when Eaton goes down with the inevitable leg injury a few months in who exactly will be taking his spot in CF? J.B. Shuck? Yeah, not so much, the job will go to the elite defender playing with renewed vigor and is well accustomed with White Sox culture. This is a brilliant move.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) this is your favorite, better than getting Jeff S, the signing of the FA's.... Starting centerfielder by June.

This is my favorite move of the offseason.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) Finished all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights in like 2 weeks, what show should I start next on Netflix? Being Human is good.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) i asked for the sox to sign a lot of the fa's??? you are wrong. and with the sox signing him or not, isn't this still a forum to exchange opinions??? it is really that simple. In a way, no, I suppose, quality snark.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) i am not saying sign all players or to load the team up with salary. You kind of are, you can pretty much beg the same question with every free agent on the market. The Sox didn't sign Lopez because they didn't and someone else did, it's really that simple.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 06:01 PM) The Yankees already tried this 12 years ago and how did that work out for them? OH YEAH JOSH BECKETT BUDDY Yeah because building through the draft works so well? I can name at least 293 teams over the past 10 years that have FAILED to win the World Series, guess how many of them signed all the players? Zero. Wanker. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 06:01 PM) Strategy to guaranteed victory. Eventually, you'll have every player who has at least one hand to throw with and thus, rest of the league fields teams of people who have no arms and only feet to throw. Certainty of winning...99.99999999%. Thank you! I'd LOVE to see Brian Sabean attempt to win a title with a rotation full of dudes firing baseballs out their bungholes. NOT. POSSIBLE.

This does pose a much larger, critical question that I dare ANYONE to defend Rich Hahn on; why don't the Sox sign all the players?

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) Suppose we execute a trade that opens up spots on the roster before those deadlines pass. Could we add him back to the roster without risking him to waivers? A player can be optioned to the minors after being DFA though that wouldn't be an option at present time since there is no 25 man roster to option him from, also a player cannot be optioned if he was replaced on the 40 man roster with another player which Carroll was today by LaRoche.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) He hasn't been assigned yet. He was Designated For Assignment, which means he is currently on the waiver wire. If he passes through, he can then be assigned outright (which I think he can then reject if he wants to, but I'm not sure on that one). This isn't necessarily correct. As far as we know Carroll has not been waived, he's in purgatory for the next 10 days by the end of which the Sox must release or trade him they may also place him on waivers within 7 days with the intention of outrighting him to Charlotte. It's a minor distinction but possibly an important one, designating a player for assignment simply buys a team time when they need to immediately clear a spot on the 40 man roster, nothing more, the other options come after the DFA. If the Sox feel he has some value and may be claimed on waivers they have 7 days to find a trade partner before waiving him.

The first 2 moves of the offseason kinda make it feel like the Sox want to compete next year.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) Big lefty from washington named Adam with big power and alot of K's, spent most of the career in the NL. At least it's for only 2 years and less money this time. (just kidding by the way just thought it was funny) He actually doesn't K that much, below league average last year, withing ~2% points of league average each year with the Nats. His BB/K rate last year was super sexy: 14.0%/18.4%. He's been super consistent with the K's throughout his career, typically around 21-22%. His first PA with the Sox will be only his 20th in the AL FWIW.

87.7FM The Game getting shut down

This is some incredibly awkward radio. I guess no one notified the on air talent that they were out of jobs at year's end. -

Rumor has it that Rich Harden is available. Any interest? He hasn't been able to stay healthy but when he's on he's one of the best in the game.

Oh and The Babadook is much more Jacob's Ladder psychological adventure than the *brief super loud noise* /got you to jump, movie that we've come to accept. Very cool film, the actual babadook doesn't make a lot of appearances but the sleep deprived, end of her whits mom puts on a show. Very solid.

Edge of Tomorrow is one of the great action movies of recent memory, damn shame it didn't garner the respect it deserves. Say what you will about Tom Cruise but dude knows what he's doing in action movies and this is no exception.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
Kalapse replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I can't shake the feeling that Jason is not pleased with the Bears' special teams play, just waiting for him to come out and say it instead of hiding behind his veil of ambiguity. -
I think I'm down with Melky, which for some reason feels like a mistake but I can't shake it.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Naturally? If something looks to good to be true............ Do you have any real knowledge of Pedro being a user or are you just throwing it out there for the hell of it whenever his name is brought up? I'm genuinely curious because you're incredibly persistent.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) My mistake, I thought that baserunning, hitting, and defense were all separate categories. Either way, I still think that the massive HR/RBI/AVG difference should be more heavily weighted, although I do agree that McCutchen has the advantage when it comes to OBP. Why?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 07:07 AM) Jordan played for the Sox in 2012, so he had to have been added to the 40 in 2012 at the latest. That said, if he wasn't added to the 40 until he was called up and then stayed up the rest of the season, then 2012 would not count as an option year. If anybody knows of a site that includes a detailed transaction history on players, I would love to hear about it. TSN is the best for this believe it or not: http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/teams/players/bio/?id=4041 He only spent 10 days in the minors in 2012 after being added to the 40 so that shouldn't have burned an option year, a player must spend at least 20 days in the minors for an option to be used.
