Eaton leaves game after running into fence
Kalapse replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ball, wall, ball, they teach you that s*** in little league. I get that he was approaching at an odd angle and he's a psychopath who refuses to give up on any fly ball but playing with full reckless abandon is a great way to cut your career short. His aggressiveness is awesome and it's probably the #1 reason he's in the bigs (though it's also lead to some truly embarrassing baserunning) but he has to show some self control and awareness out there. This was just kinda stupid. -
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Remember when we made Dewayne Wise an everyday player? Opening day leadoff hitter for a team coming off a playoff appearance.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) Leaving aside Viciedo, Jordan Danks and Tyler Flowers, what exactly has Leury Garcia done to justify a place on the bench? He is literally hitting like a pitcher in over 200 PA with the White Sox. And yet, no mention of Futuresox's preseason #4 prospect. That dude who could be competent at 3+ positions and is OPSing .813 with a babip of .250 in AAA right now.

Andy Wilkins' last 10 games look like a sample from RTTS when you've pumped up your player's power and mastered the timing of pitches and you start to feel like maybe you need to turn up the difficulty.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) I've liked the transition to El Hombre better. Or Pito, which is the actual nickname that he has. Maybe not the smartest play to start poaching nicknames from Albert Pujols? I know Pujols never loved the nickname El Hombre because of the connection to Stan Musual and preferred The Machine instead but people have been calling him that for over a decade now. Maybe Hawk wants it to be the new "pudge" for Latin American firstbasemen? Personally, I love the nickname Yogi because, dammit, he looks like Yogi Bear and it fits his good-natured personality. But if the man wants to be called Pito, you call him Pito. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) What do u folks think of my late night man, The Grobber? I love his show. This makes a lot of sense.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:14 PM) Oh and this. He's so clueless sometimes on general baseball strategy. Stuff that's outside of the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" range. He took the bat out of his best player's hands. Amazing. With any other hitter on deck it's suspect but MAYBE defensible (even though bunting the runner over with 0 outs is a lateral move at best odds wise) but to do it in front of Abreu is just stupid.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) He fanned Him twice preciously and Papi hadn't had a hit the entire series. Load em up for Napoli when he is having problems throwing strikes isn't a good option. He had 2 hits yesterday, including one off Sale. And yes, Quintana's K's are precious, much like a puppy.

Bunting in front of Abreu, a fireable offense if there ever was one.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
Kalapse replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gordon strikes me as the type of player who will really take to a change of scenery, he'll move on to a new club next year and go on to hit .280/.350/.450 There's absolutely nothing the Sox can do, he'll never put it together here but the second he puts on anther uniform he'll turn it on. This upsets me greatly. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) The present participle of the verb wisen. You're like the biggest nerd ever.

Bor-ass. Kill it please, you sound like a 10 year old.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) I disagree, I think he's pretty good. To the topic, what teams did he say would be interested in those players and I definitely think we should sell. Everyone knows this isn't a playoff team yet so trade the pieces you have now that have value and set yourself up for the future. He's pretty much the worst, his next insightful thought will be his first. Right up there with Nightengale as national sports writers who provide nothing to the landscape.

I had Abreu for 52 and 127 coming into the seasons so I'm feeling pretty good right now.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) Any relation to Andrew? They're brothers, actually. He was also once a prospect in the Pirates org.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Or you can just call him up to begin the year anyways and pay the Super 2 salary. If ihe's the best player and you think it could make a difference at the end of the year, there's no reason to keep him in the minors for half the year to ultimately save around $4 mill total. If the guy's good, he's gonna get paid eventually anyways. Agreed

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) my bad.... I thought his clock starts when he comes up. It does but he'll only accrue like 30 days of service which isn't a big deal. Just wait 30 days past the Super 2 deadline to call him up when he's ready to join the rotation and you're all good.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) you do know if he does sign, he is going to have a clause in there that will force the sox to begin his clock around sep of this yr. And if that is the case it'll have absolutely no effect on his clock or the White Sox's control of his rights long term if he's any damn good. Clock stops when you're sent to the minors and he'd run out of options in 2018, he should be a fixture in the majors by then.

Adrian Beltre has brought much fun to the game over the past 17 (!) years. Easily one of my favorite all time players.
-
Is it weird that I'm still pissed the Sox didn't call up Tom Collaro in 2007 when everything went to s***? Sure he would have struck out in 80% of his AB's but it would have been FUUUUUNNNNNN.
-
Wow, Evan Longoria looks f***ing stupid.

Fun stuff, sorted by 2014 WAR: 13 David Price 2.3 14 Jeff Samardzija 2.2 15 Jose Quintana 2.1 16 Max Scherzer 2.1 17 Mark Buehrle 2

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers
Kalapse replied to Texsox's topic in The Diamond Club
That qualifier more applies to someone like Rich Harden who was a dynamic, dominant starter when healthy but pitched what could be considered a full season only once in his career. Not a Sale who's had no significant injuries to date and only 1 DL trip in his young career but MAY, someday, have his arm fall off. -
What a horrible f***ing thread. Christ, f*** you guys.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Only if it happened before Sept. 1st. I also don't want to see him in August. But as a September call-up? Hell yeah. Yeah, this isn't true at all. If Rodon is called up in September he'll accrue 27 days of service (he'd probably report on 9/2 since there's no game on 9/1), there is no special condition for September call ups, they're on the major league roster therefore they earn service time. And starting a player's "clock" isn't that big of a deal when you're talking about an advanced prospect who's a college junior. If they call him up on 9/2 he'll get 27 days of service which is nice and all but doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot in the long run. Your typical college draftee can spend upward of 7 years in the minors -- 4 years off the 40 man + 3 on -- but Rodon would see a max of 3 years in the minors since he'd be added to the 40 this year so the Sox would start burning options next year if they wanted him to start in the minors. It's nice for him in that the Sox could only send him down in 3 seasons of his career but if he's any good he's unlikely to see that much time on the farm anyway. Player's don't accrue service for time spent in the minors while on the 40 so the Sox could, in theory, put him in the pen this September, then burn options the next 2 years and have him join the rotation in July of 2017, avoid super two status and still have another option year in their back pocket. In other words: if they call him up 2.5 months from now he'll earn a little service but it's really no biggie from a control standpoint.
