QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) Finished season 1 and 2 of Luther this weekend....awesome, awesome show. Can't wait for season 3 to air. There's absolutely no reason why Idris wouldn't be an awesome Bond, I think Luther proves this.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:18 AM) Don't call us bad fans because we can't get all enthused over a team still below .500 that's played so s***ty the last 2 plus seasons. Cmon. Good post, Greg.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2012 -> 07:00 AM) No need to apologize greg. The 'bum' name calling was warranted, and I bet he would have told you the same thing last year, he was awful. That being said, he is back and fun to watch. In today's age of pitching, defense, & diminished power, it's still fun to see a guy go up there swinging for the fences in every at-bat. http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-ind...re.cgi?id=pATDv -
This might be as good as it gets so I'll post it now: .257/.401/.628/1.030 I love you Adam Dunn.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2012 -> 06:31 AM) Do any SABR heads know what the highest BABIP sustained over a full season is? Not sure if any historical SABR records like that are kept. (Obviously it won't go back that long in history) All time in a season with 502+ PA (qualified for the batting title) the highest ever BABIP is .444 by Ty Cobb in 1911. The top 10 are all Hall of Famers and 8 of those players had .400+ batting average that season The top 13 (.409+) are all prior to 1925. 25 times has a player sustained a .400+ BABIP over a full season and only 4 of those players are not in the Hall of Fame or Manny Ramirez. Highest post 1925 BABIP was the .408 Rod Carew managed in 1977. Highest post 1925 that's not Rod Carew: 2002 Jose Hernandez had a .404 BABIP, 188 K's and 24 HR, he hit .288 that season. Crazy. Only 50 times in the history of the game has a player sported a .350+ BABIP but a batting average under .300. The lowest AVG of the bunch was Jack Cust's .256 in 2007.

It's on Fox, so yeah it's blacked out.

One thing about Goon, just thought of it now, there was an annoying scene in the film: I do not claim to be a Hockey expert but does the "A" on a player's chest not stand for "alternate" as in "alternate captian"? Well I do believe they say in the movie that the man with the "A" is the "assistant captain", not a big inconsistency but that's pretty weak considering a hockey novice like myself noticed it. And yes, I know that "assistant" is considered acceptable (by some at least) but would the coach of the team use this term? I think not, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 4, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Doubt I'll see a funnier movie than GOON this year. Hockey scenes were really well done. When Sean William Scott is good in a movie he is very good. He's a decent actor and I think his bizarre jaw makes him likable. Alison Pill has lost a ton of weight since Scott Pilgrim. Liev Schreiber is pretty awesome in everything. Hockey movies are f***ing great (yeah, the only other one I can think of is Slap Shot), I think they create the most interesting characters, the supporting actors tend to make these movies (both of them). Oh yeah and Goon is outstanding, terrific hockey sequences, the first 12 minutes are terrific and had me worrying that the movie would lose steam, fortunately it did not. There's no bulls***, not a bit and I love it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) I thought I was reading somewhere Ozzie is a big supporter of charities and stuff and puts his money where his mouth is. And I heard he's great meeting fans at bars, restrants, etc., and has always been good while at the ballpark where a lot of players are pricks. Hence my support of him being a good guy. The Castro thing was stupid and a byproduct of how much he likes to talk. I really don't care about his kid. I believe each individual is responsible for his/her actions and papa is not responsible for baby bear. The contract thing also doesn't bother me. Bottom line is he and the GM had a severe clash of egos. I truly can't believe Kenny hired Ozzie to begin with. Certainly he had to realize their two egos could not co-exist. Hey Greg, one thing about Ozzie's dumbass kid getting WAY too involved in clubhouse matters that you cannot ignore: would he have been there had Ozzie not been his father? You say each individual is responsible for his/her own actions but what if you're only put in that position through nepotism? Is the family member not held responsible for the idiot's actions? I do believe they should be.

This is simply incredible. It's almost like Jake Peavy is Jake Peavy and Adam Dunn is Adam Dunn and Alex Rios is . . . well you get the point. The f*** is going on?

Adam Dunn pretty much single-handedly won the White Sox a game.

Collective anger against Beckham/Morel/Dunn/Rios thread

.265/.368/.571/.940 seems very Dunn-like. This makes me happy. Sure it's only 57 PA (and coming fresh off his finest game of the season) but through 58 PA last season he was sporting a .163/.293/.327/.620 line and he would not see .700 again all season, so it's a start. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) Jason Frasor with a 1.59 ERA so far this year. Ugh You spoke too soon, tonight: 1.2 IP, 3H, 3ER, 1BB, 4K and his ERA balloons to 5.68 and a 1.58 WHIP. Beware the early stats, it can all change with the blink of an eye.

I think it's wrong. The pitch by pitch data for the Giants ABs in that game does not exist and instead of this being recorded as N/A or blank as it is for other games the system credited the bare minimum of pitches for each outcome: 1 pitch for balls put in play and 3 for strikeouts.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) but shuts em down. 10 innings. Awesome. Only the 5th time this century that a pitcher has gone 10+ innings. The last: 2007 when Aaron Harang went 10 in July and Roy Halladay went 10 in April. The last time a pitcher went 11+? 1990, Dave Stewart, 129 pitches. More than 11 innings: Andy Hawkins; also 1990, in a loss, 145 pitches. 12 innings? Rick Wise, 91 pitches (!) in 1971. 13 innings? Dennis Bennett; 159 pitches in 1964. The record? Warren Spahn; 15.2 IP, 184 pitches, 1951.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 11:11 PM) Yeah, looks like lee goes out again if the phillies dont score though Lee at 89 pitches, BTW. And he is back out but gives up a leadoff single.
-
Damn shame Bochy wouldn't let Cain pitch the 10th with only 91 pitches, he was absolutely dealing.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 10:58 PM) Cain through 9 with 91 pitches, Lee taking the mound now..Are both these guys going to go 10? or 11? This is an instant classic pitcher's duel, just incredible. 7 total baserunners in this game and about 10 pitches per inning.
-
Peavy's numbers are just outstanding through his first 3 starts: 2.75 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, .200 BAA, 0.46 HR/9, 9.61 K/9, 0.96 BB/9, 10.5 K:BB. And tonight he was doing it with his fastball topping out at 94 MPH and sitting at 91.4, though it had awesome action in to righties and his breaking balls had that sick bite. He might actually be good if he can somehow refrain from tearing a muscle from the bone.

It just loaded for me in Chrome.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) CABIN IN THE WOODS is getting great reviews. Not a horror guy but maybe hard to ignore. Co-written by Joss Whedon and given the Edgar Wright stamp of approval. I am also not a horror guy but will be seeing this.

I checked it now and it doesn't work in Chrome -- it says I have to update Java but after I do it still doesn't work -- but it works fine in IE: just lick "run" and then "no" when prompted. I'd say a lot of people click "yes" without actually reading the prompt, I know that's what I used to do and that locks you out.

Seeing them in action; I absolutely LOVE the new Blue Jays uniforms. Such a great, clean look and going back to the old school Logo (with the added leaf) was a great move.
