  1. If Danks does sign an extension sometime soon and the terms are close to 5/$65M then Doug Seyller deserves are undying respect because no writer whether national or otherwise has even hinted that the Sox and Danks are even talking and yet some f***ing Art Designer with 182 followers on twitter already has a dollar amount out there. This would be at least his 3rd big get.
  2. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Doug Seyller @k0na #Whitesox 5yr 65mil $13M AAV, $14M if he gets $9M in year 1. It's actually rather reasonable for both sides, the Sox have to see Peavy's money coming off the books as an opening for Danks. Assuming this is true, of course. I still don't know what the f*** they're doing.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Maybe the Yankees wouldn't give us what we want without a contract extension, so we are going to pull a sign-and-trade? You don't do sign-and-trades with veteran players in baseball, they're not a part of the game at all. If Danks gets an extension it'll include some sort of no-trade protection for the first 2 years of the deal.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) With where the White Sox are right now, offering that deal makes zero sense. No, it does not. Then again I really won't complain, I Love John Danks and I'm no longer going to pretend to understand how the White Sox organization is run, if they want to spend in odd places then go for it, i'm done predicting payrolls year to year.
  5. QUOTE (heirdog @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) I asked k0na if it was 5/$54 and he first said "I can't confirm or deny at this time dude" and then later said "how about this, one of those numbers is right" So now we have all the clues...3/$54 or 5/$75...it's like price is right. So CJ Wilson got an average annual value of $15.5M on his deal over 5 years. Danks still has arbitration coming up for 2012, I'd place an $8.5M value on that season leaving us with 4 years to work with, bump the $15.5M AAV to $16M as a showing of good faith and loyalty over 4 free agent seasons would bring the total value to $72.5M. Toss in a 6th year option/buyout or signing bonus of $2.5M (same as CJ) and the total value moves to 5/$75M. Kinda seems right. That's just so much f***ing money, I can't imagine JR paying.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) While I 100% believe k0na that a deal is done, I give these figures about a 1% chance of being true. Mark just got $14.5M per year to pitch from age 33-36. John is getting no less than $15M per year to pitch from age 26-30, even with an extra year on the deal. My guess would be 5 years and something between $75-80M. In other words: CJ Wilson money (5/$77.5M) and I agree 100%. k0na has most definitely earned our respect as a source of information so I don't doubt that the Sox are making a push to re-sign Danks but that number makes zero sense. Wasn't it someone on here who was pushing the StateStSports blog? It seems awful convenient to throw a number out there after k0na reports that an extension is imminent, I just don't get why they would go with such a low number when the smart money would be on CJ Wilson money. I guess the only way it would make sense for JR to give a 5 year deal to a starter if he could get him at his price? Not terrible logic, still doesn't make a ton of sense from Danks' perspective unless 2010 just scared the hell out of him.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) So is Frasor going to end up getting paid more than any other non-closer reliever signed this offseason? Peralta just signed for like 2.2 million. Dotel got 1/$3.5M with $4M guaranteed while Frasor gets $3.75M. So there's your one. Also: Peralta was not a free agent, he and the Rays avoided arbitration today by agreeing on a 1 year deal. He was 38 service days away from free agency, only qualified for arbitration this year.
  8. Since the Bulls didn't have cap space when Billups was amnestied, I believe they did not get a bid. That was the big thing around Roy: if he hadn't retired and had been amnestied the Bulls wouldn't have had a shot since teams with cap space take priority in the bidding. Same goes for Billups.
  9. Daisuke is also 6'0" 185, Darvish is 6'5" 220, he has a real good build, should give him a better shot at staying healthy.
  10. And Passan broke it. Good for him.
  11. Someone threw together that wordpress site like half an hour ago.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 18, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) I think it does help set the value. If 3 years of arbitration on Latos = Grandal, Alonso, Volquez, and Boxberger then 1 year of Danks at about 8M = x? Seems to me that we're looking at a top 50 SP prospect from an org as well as another arm or position player from the teams top 10. Latos will make around $500k next season and is under team control for 4 years.
  13. It would never happen because the values don't matchup at all but Quentin for Grandal makes sense in theory if Josh Byrnes loves Quentin for whatever reason. Or if Kenny wants to continue with the targeting of specific prospects he likes in exchange for his most valuable, cost controlled trade chips Alexei for Grandal, Bartlett, spect makes sence.
  14. So Yonder will be their starting 1B and Rizzo will go to AAA to "work on things" oh and according to Byrnes this is a "bitter pill to swallow" for Rizzo, sounds like he's getting dealt. Can Jed make it 2 for 2 on Rizzo in back to back years?
  15. @JimBowdenESPNxm JIM BOWDEN I talked with Josh Byrnes he told me Alonso will play 1B & the plan is for Rizzo to continue his development at AAA. Trade also a possiblity
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) Damnit. I would have taken Alonso and Grandal alone for Danks.. I'd take Grandal alone for Danks, Latos is 24, under team control for 4 more seasons and has awesome upside; I'd say he's already considered a #2 by a lot of people, Jocketty included. His trade value was exponentially higher than that of Danks.
  17. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) The Padres want Quentin as well. For Yonder? They already have Rizzo who was the main piece in the AGon trade for 1B and Yonder playing LF at Petco sounds like a f***ing disaster.
  18. Volquez is in the deal as well. EDIT: Holy s***, they got Grandal too. Reds acquire SD’s Mat Latos for Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez.
  19. Yonder Alonso is off the market, headed to San Diego as part of a package for Latos.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) So if this is happening, the league won, and got a spectacular deal for that asset. Does Kaman's contract expire soon? After this season.
  21. The Associated Press held a re-vote on Brian Cushing's Defensive Rookie of the Year award 2 years ago after tests showed he had elevated levels of some hormone in his system 4 months after winning the award. So there is some precedence in another sport. I like the idea of a re-vote on the NL MVP award after his appeal is heard.
  22. This is creepy. What's the antithesis of the Shawn Kemp award?
  23. @WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski Dwight Howard has requested that the Orlando Magic trade him to the New Jersey Nets, league sources tell Y! Sports. This is just silliness.
  24. @KBergCBS Ken Berger Chris Paul update: Deal tweaks appear to be minor to preserve #Lakers' shot at Dwight Howard. #NBA bit.ly/u15jFz 34 minutes ago via Plume @JoshuaBRobbins Josh Robbins #Orlando #Magic GM Otis Smith tells @OrlandoSentinel that Dwight Howard has requested a trade: ht.ly/7Vl9D 8 minutes ago via HootSuite But hey, Rips on his way, right?
