QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) That homer reminded me of when McGwire broke Maris' record. I thought the exact same thing.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) To say the least. I find myself oddly infatuated by every shot of Martinez standing next to Maddon. His name was said like 13 times between innings 8 and 10.

As of this second all 3 games are incredibly exciting.

What an incredible night of baseball. Nights like tonight are why I really want Dave Martinez as the next manager, it seems a Joe Maddon led team just plays so f***ing hard and I'm hoping that after 4 years some of that magic has rubbed off on him. Some of the shots to the Rays dugout tonight have been interesting, a lot of discussion between Maddon and Martinez.

Holy f***ing s*** balls!

What an incredible DP by Scutaro and especially Pedroia.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) I don't see anywhere that says he's taken his name out from consideration. Good point. I'm all excitable, it's been a while since I really gave a s*** about the Sox. Accept a promotion within your current organization then go interview for managerial positions, if you don't get job then you still have that nice promotion to fall back on.

Well, it's not Sandy as he's staying on as Acta's bench coach. Now what? Martinez and who?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) What would Martinez bring that Alomar wouldn't? Alomar garners some pretty good respect in the Indians dugout and org from what I can tell. Seems like some of you think he's just gonna come in here and be Kenny's Lackey. Experience. 4 years on the bench working closely with a great manager. That compared to Sandy's 2 years as a catching instructor and 2 years as a 1st base coach. I won't be upset should Alomar get the job, Dave Martinez just excites me more.

Both Dave Martinez (96/97) and Sandy Alomar Jr. (01) were teammates of Harold Baines' in a White Sox uniform.

Orioles have a runner on with no outs against Papelbon in the bottom of the 9th, meanwhile a single out to go in Buehrle's final start. This is a tough one. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) How did it go over my head? You think Mark is gone after tonight, right? I don't. Double negative, b****. -

AJ was just saving up energy all season long for that throw right there. Better late than never, I suppose. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) Sure, as some part of our organization one day, but that whole display doesn't appear to be anything less than a goodbye gesture. Cooper knows better than anyone, and I'd say he knows Buehrle is gawn. They did the exact same thing with Konerko last year, we nearly lost him but he's still around. -

Props to Coop for the way he handled that, just awesome. -

He took the field alone then was removed to a standing ovation from the fans and teammates. According to twitter. -
They never f***ing did. Did you notice the source? Garfein already corrected Cowley's false report. Ozzie's the one who told Cora he'd be the interim manager, he was assuming and he assumed wrong.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) Wasn't Quade Pinellas bench coach? Stop correcting me. I meant Sandberg, when you're that quick it doesn't give me any time to correct myself which I do often.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) What about Martinez makes everybody want him? How do we know he's a sabermetrics guy? I feel like everybody wants to ride this idea, how do we even know much about him as a head manager? Someone really needs to writeup a good answer to this question so we can put it at the top of the forum. The easiest answer is that he's worked along side the best manager in baseball for 4 years now, he's Maddon's righthand man and stats guy and Maddon vouches for him. That's really good enough for me. Stone actually put it pretty well this morning, paraphrasing: "you can't get those shots of Joe Maddon in the Rays dugout without seeing Dave Martinez over his shoulder." as for this: Well, we don't. You could ask that same question of any candidate, we just have to go off what we know and from what I personally know of Dave Martinez, I'd love it if the Sox gave him a shot. He could absolutely fail, there's really no way of knowing but when looking for your next manager a great way to go about it is hiring off coaching trees, it's how the Rays landed Maddon: hiring off the Scioscia tree, now Maddon's gotten to the point where he has his own tree in play. The good thing about Martinez compared to someone like Sandberg is at least he's gained experience on a Major League bench along side a great manager.

More good, definitive news: Chris Rongey Kenny says that Buddy Bell is not in the mix for the manager position. The case for Alomar is looking stronger #whitesox 5 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) What I'd say is that you need to think about Fisk's meaning to the Sox. This was a moribund franchise that literally he helped revitalize. They meant more because they had Fisk. Same reason I'd give Ozzie a statue...he did what no other manager could do for that org and finished the job. And that's why organizations retire numbers and the Sox put their faces on the left-centerfield wall.

I think I read this one correctly: Chris Rongey Kenny also says he offered to vacate GM position for different job with #whitesox but that idea wasn't received well by ownership 1 minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® That seems like the Williams - President, Hahn - GM scenario. I guess it wasn't in the cards afterall.
