  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Are you reading the "Not" in Rongey's tweet? If it was Alomar, that'd be done quick, other candidates would be reasons to wait. Ha, I'm an idiot.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) I hope not. Retired numbers are one thing. Statues should be for legends. And I hate the fact that Fisk has one. We should have 2 statues right now: Frank and Comiskey. Harold having a statue is a joke and Fisk is just silly, handing them out to very good/borderline great players that won't be getting into the hall just waters down the honor that comes with being immortalized in statue form.
  3. @ChuckGarfien Chuck Garfien Clearing up published report, Joey Cora thought he was interim manager because Ozzie told him so. Ozzie just assumed. 22 seconds ago via UberSocial for BlackBerry There, now people jumping to ridiculous conclusions can just drop it.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) Directly from his mouth. Oh and in the locker room he told the players the same thing. Said he could have stayed but he needs to do the best for his family and go where there is more money. As for baiting you into a fight, I dont fight on the internet, I'm just concerned about your mental well being. Seriously walk away from the keyboard. It does seem pretty simple: I believe he got $16M from the Marlins, he was making what? $2M a year here with a year left on his deal and absolutely no guarantees going forward (how could there be?). He says it's all about money and doing what's best for his family and he has a $16M offer from the Marlins on the table with that door slamming shut if he doesn't accept it now, why wouldn't he bolt for Florida? How can a manager be considered fired if he has a year left on his deal that he will not be compensated for and announces on his blog an hour after his farewell press conference that he's accepted an equivalent job elsewhere?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Did the team actually name him anything officially? It's been reported that he was simply told not to show up today. Exactly. KW said nothing of the sort last night and Cora's name wasn't even mentioned in the official press release or Merkin's story that was published around 12:30 last night. Seems like local reporters were just throwing Cora's name out there on Twitter since he was the bench coach, the White Sox never publicly named Cora anything. It only makes sense that Coop would be the man from the start, he's a KW guy and they're trying to make him as happy as possible to keep his ass around into the next regime, Cora was always going to follow Ozzie, why would KW hand the reins over to him for the final 2 games?
  6. If we here want Martinez then we better start cheering for the Red Sox, any extra time between now and his interview only lessens his chances.
  7. @SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman excellent white sox pitching coach don cooper is staying with team. its a win-win nite for #chisox 6 minutes ago via web Very good night.
  8. "Hell no! They got me fired!" that was pretty good.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) Maybe Morrison is back in the picture? No, he's not.
  10. Things are going to be very different next year.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) Nice, where did you hear that wording? It's all over twitter. Beat guys, Rongey, national writers.
  12. He's been released of his contract but the Sox retain right for compensation should he find a managerial job elsewhere. So basically he's being traded.
  13. Well the press conference should be interesting. If Ozzie does have a jet ready to take him to Miami then will this be farewell? Will he cry?
  14. @jonmorosi Jon Morosi Reinsdorf said to hold Joey Cora, Buddy Bell, and Tony La Russa in high regard. Three names to keep in mind as #WhiteSox prepare for search. 53 seconds ago via web
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) I'm glad there will be a change, but I'm sorry it had to end this way. Ozzie is good for baseball. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in Miami, where he doesn't have a brother relationship with the GM, and a father-son realtionship with the owner. He'll be managing in a tough division and working for a man who is VERY easily offended. It'll be interesting.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) They couldn't get that done until after the WS anyway because of waiver rules. Ozzie Guillen's value was never that high. For as mush as he's frustrated the Marlins organization LoMo is a 23 year old former top 20 prospect, under team control for another 5 years, hit 22 HR this year and owns an 810 career OPS. That's a very valuable piece right there, not the kind of player you swap for a manager who was on his last leg with his former org.
  17. @dan_bernstein Dan Bernstein Loria sending his private jet to Chicago tomorrow to bring Ozzie to Miami. 25 seconds ago via web
  18. @BNightengale Bob Nightengale #mlb The worst-kept secret is over. Ozzie is gone as #WhiteSox manager, he is resigning and will be managing the #Marlins. 39 seconds ago via web
