JR and KW need to clarify the direction of the "All In"
Kalapse replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) What was our team ERA during that time? 2.50-2.75? We had to outscore our opponents this month, didn't we? Except for Peavy and Humber, the bullpen and starters have been pretty darned dominant. We were outscored 84 to 79 which is 3.5 a game allowed compared to 3.29 scored. The 10 runs on Saturday didn't help matters, that and the Minnesota series where we allowed 23 runs in 4 games. Overall we had 9 games allowing 2 runs or less with 3 shoutouts. -

We scored 5+ runs 7 times in 24 July games with 3.29 runs per game. We went 12-12 for the month and didn't gain or lose a game in the standings: 4 games back. -
Ozzie confirms Rios will be in lineup tomorrow
Kalapse replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I love the way Orsillo and Remy describe Rios' play in the field: sloppy x2, relaxed, laidback, taking his time, casual, granting the run. Good stuff. It's probably silly but I find it shocking how little Rios cares about his baseball legacy: he's burned bridges in 2 cities now, those fans will remember him forever and his lasting impression will be one of indolence and apathy. I can't imagine it turning around, I just don't see it in him, some way or another he'll be purged from the roster sometime relatively soon but he'll live on in Sox lore as one of our all-time greatest washouts. Or maybe I'm just upset. -

QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) Did he have a chance to throw the guy out? Or was he pulling the usual jog to the ball, toss it to the cutoff man BS? http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_...7480277&v=3 You'd think he'd be extra vigilant in the field given the De Aza wakeup call but alas he doesn't seem to give a s***. -
Not so fast @BNightengale Bob Nightengale #MLB Harden says he's staying put. Deal w #RedSox falls through

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) It's just the way Rosenthal worded his tweet that makes it sound like KW just realized that trading Jackson thinned out his starting staff. That's ridiculous. I actually agree, there's just no way in hell Kenny thought all was fine and dandy until the 5th inning of today's game. He has some sort of convoluted plan afoot here.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Hasn't Ubaldo's velocity increased the last month or so? I know it was down to start the season. But in the games I've seen of late he's been consistently poppin' 95. His velocity has been inconsistent His average fastball in his last start was 93.3/93.8 (FF/FT) topping out at 96.2, he hit 95+ 7 times out of 47 fastballs. In the start before that he was at 94.4/93.7 topping out 96.3 hitting 95+ 21 times out of 67 fastballs. Here's his velocity chart from fangraphs:
-
Jimenez since 2010 All-Star break (not counting today): 35 GS, 216.2 IP, 4.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 9.0 K/9, 8.2 H/9, 3.9 BB/9, 2.33 K/BB and his fastball is down from an average velocity of 96.1 last year to 93.4 this year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) F***, it appears I didn't hate this deal. Thanks for quoting me 3 times. I wish I had known he was a f***ing loser. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) Maybe the Rockies are trying to make a point? Pomeranz AND White or else? lol. Interesting tweet from Heyman: SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman appears rox now getting 4th player in deal Another 2 run double. That's 4 runs allowed by Ubaldo now.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:06 PM) Other than the small dip in velocity (he's still hittin' 94 consistently), there's nothing not to like about Ubaldo. He immediately becomes the second best pitcher in the central. I looked it up; going from 96.1 to 93.4 on his average fastball isn't exactly a "small dip". And another walk, I agree with the Rockies announcers: this is painful to watch.
-
He's not pitching well, 2 walks thus far in the first. I imagine he's distracted. And now a 2 rund double by Ludwick.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) NO TRADE! Ubaldo is pitching. With a man up in the pen. Hold on now. I've never seen this before. It's undeniable that something is happening with a man warming, I can't believe the Rockies are playing it like this, if you're hammering out a deal wouldn't you scratch him just as a precaution?
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) Ubaldo apparently still warming up. This trade is not done. This is bizarre. I just checked my twitter feed and I see this from Passen: Just confirmed @TroyRenck report that LHP Drew Pomeranz, RHP Alex White and 1B Matt McBride will be Colorado's package for Ubaldo Jimenez. and right above that is this from Nightengale: #mlb #Rockies Jimenez going down to bullpen to warm up...Apparently, not scratched yet. Very interesting, I added a question mark to the thread title.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Did anyone hear that the Astros also sent $1 million to the Phillies as part of that Pence deal? Weird. I believe it was $2M to keep the Phillies under the luxury tax threshold.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) 1 good start 2 bad . Small sample size besides I don't expect anything that much from him right now except to be a replacement and get some instruction from Coop. Like I said we have relievers to overcome some starter problems. Everything can't be perfect. Can't have 5 quality starters, great bullpen and good offense when you are .500 now while trying to get rid of some salary and improve the ball club. Might end up hurting the club with Young's defense and Stewart pitching but also might help with improved offense. Gotta roll the dice . I know the sample is small, you said he wasn't bad, he allowed more than 2 baserunners per inning after his debut and 1.86 per inning overall, if that's not bad then I'm not sure what it is. I'm not commenting on any of these unfeasable trade proposals. There's not much that indicates that Stewart is ready to be a big league starting pitcher -- some would say he doesn't have the stuff to ever be one (Kevin Goldstein) -- he was allowing a bunch of baserunners in AA prior to his promotion (1.50 WHIP in May) during his promotion (1.86 WHIP) and since his demotion (1.37 WHIP in July).
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) I don't think it necessarily is a surrender. Stewart has pitched in the bigs this year. Wasn't bad. Offense gets much better then even better when Viciedo is healthy and called up. Only need 4 starters for the playoffs anyway and we have the depth in the bullpen to overcome some starter problems. Anyway I was being " creative" .That's what Kenny needs to with some of these big salaries and under performing players. Pretty sure Young wouldn't under perform as he's been on fire lately. He allowed 23 baserunners in 9.2 IP in his 2 outings against DET and ATL after his big league debut vs Baltimore. Overall he had a 1.86 WHIP before being demoted.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) I had totally forgotten that Prado can play LF. He's doing it for the first time in his professional career this season and more than holding his own. Once they made the deal for Uggla it was clear Prado would be taking over starting duties in LF. With all this talk of Willingham (barely an OF), Ludwick (he's played a handful of innings in CF but he's not athletic enough to trust out there) and Quentin what exactly is the plan? Prado to center? Seems like a stretch given that he's new to outfield play but it seems like it's the only option, I can't imagine them shifting Heyward. That's why none of this makes any damn sense and Bourn and Crisp should be the players they're targeting.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) That Braves fan makes a good point. Where the hell does CQ play? Of course he/she makes a good point but I think we should just ignore that logical approach and instead focus on the constant stream of reports from national writers that have the Baves targeting corner outfielders including Quentin by name. It doesn't have to make sense, dammit.
-
SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman #yankees indeed among teams to inquire about available matt thornton. #chsox, #tradedeadline Not exactly difficult to figure out why Kenny is dangling Thornton, aside from the contract, frightening start to the season and our good of lefty reliever depth Matt Thornton is a hot commodity on the trade market, get a few teams bidding against each other and we could get a very nice return.
-
@BNightengale Bob Nightengale #mlb #Braves also strongly in on Quentin, but with #WhiteSox in race, still unlikely they will make move
-
@BNightengale Bob Nightengale #mlb #Red Sox pushing hard for Carlos Quentin and LHP Thornton, but #White Sox would have to be overwhelmed with prospects# tradedeadline
-
@Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal Source: #Rangers would only move Holland for Thornton if #WhiteSox expanded deal to include a starter such as Danks. #tradedeadline #MLB Seems like they're fairly far apart.
