  1. @Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal Sources: #Rangers pursuing #WhiteSox's Thornton. White Sox want Holland in return. #tradedeadline #MLB
  2. @STATS_MLB STATS LLC #WhiteSox lower #MLB-best ERA to 1.92 since All-Star break with 7th straight win over #RedSox, who lead majors with 89 runs after break. 3 minutes ago via TweetDeck
  3. Regardless of whether or not we're actually interested in trading him right this second, this is frantastic news.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Ramirez's offensive numbers this year are actually slightly above his career norms. Past his prime? He's had lingering injury problems until this year. 3rd highest wOBA of any 3B in the game this season, right behind #2 and well ahead of #4. You can say what you want about his D but his last 2 months have put him right there with the elite 3B in the game offensively (Youk and A-Rod).
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) We need less Type-Sucks and more Type-Goods. A few more tweaks Kenny, just a few more. Don't give up. Winners. Will Ohman's having an excellent season. Lefties are hitting .200/.279/.309/.588 off him with a 4.00 k/bb and 32% of their PA against him end in a K. Overall he has a 1.18 WHIP and a 9.77 K/9, he's doing exactly what he was brought in to do.
  6. What a bizarre couple of days, the trade/rumors are just weird and they're coming from odd sources. None of this seems typical, this year's deadline just feels off, it feels like the ogranization is stuck in between.
  7. Holy s***, Jerry Meals just handed the game to the Braves with one of the all time worst calls by an umpire. Unreal. Lugo dead to rights at the plate is clearly tagged TWICE before finally stepping on the plate and is called safe, wow.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Well, Reed and Mitchell are 2 guys I'd like to hold on to as well. He had an ankle injury, though. Contract, sure and Petco effect (as well as NL effect) is likely. But I don't think anyone foresaw multiple injuries and setbacks. This is exactly why I hated the trade at the time, his mechanics are just so god awful and he'd had elbow problems the year before we traded for him, that on top of what you've already mentioned and there was just WAY to much risk involved in that deal considering his $55M price tag. And now he's made 30 starts for us in 2 full years with the club, not a lot of opportunity for the elbow or shoulder to go.
  9. It's the bottom of the 19th in Atlanta, tied 3-3 with the Pirates.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:18 AM) Rosenthal stating that Toronto going after Wandy Rodriguez and Heath Bell Heath Bell makes about as much sense as Edwin Jackson. That team is what? 10 out in the wild card and they're interested in a soon-to-be free agent closer? Is it odd that Rosenthal's report almost lends credence to the Jackson rumor?
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) That's it in a nutshell. But it was KW's screw up that got this snowball rolling. That's why I hope if JR decides to go young he lets someone else make the decisions. Why reward KW with 4 or 5 years of employment trying to fix the mess he created? Hopefully JR learned something when he gave Jerry Krause a free pass. Yeah, if this goes down it just accentuates the terrible job KW's done running this club the past few years and should make it crystal clear that it's time for a change.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 11:15 PM) Come on...$10 million isn't going to force us to make this mistake. You would hope not but at this point I'm going on the assumption that this rumor is true (there's really no discussion if we dismiss the rumor out of hand) and thinking logically, yeah this is a mistake brought on by salary dumping.
  13. Assuming this is true . . . So it's a good trade for KW because it dumps Teahen's salary yet the Teahen extension was a tremendous f***up on KW's behalf that next to no one thought was a good idea at the time? I love how KW makes bad trades to cover up for bad trades, that's been his MO over the past few years. So 6 years of Dan Hudson for a season's worth of good production from Jackson (which won us nothing), 2 months of Frasor, a probable mediocre prospect and maybe Type B compensation. Must we give away good starting pitching in every f***ing trade? Go over budget spending a s*** ton of money on players who don't produce so then you're apparently forced to dump good starting pitching for a reliever, a prospect that I assume will be mediocre and a supp. pick in a god damn seller's market because your team sucks and thus attendance is s*** and you need to start slashing payroll. I pray the prospect is good but I don't see why Toronto would throw in a minor leaguer that's worth a damn, it makes no sense.
  14. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) Maybe someone wanted Lilli as a throw in? I was actually thinking the same thing, aside from the fact that he K's about 30% of the time and probably isn't all that good at baseball Lillibridge is an ideal NL bench player, with all the rumors involving NL clubs it makes sense.
  15. What Aramis and his agent would be looking at is this offseason's free agent market, the thirdbase options consist of Aramis Ramirez and Aramis Ramirez. It's bone dry. And with him being one of 5 3B with an .800+ OPS this season, 3 with an .850+ and 3 with a .360+ wOBA. He's the only option on the free agent market at a position that's seen a precipitous -- if not anomalistic -- drop in offensive production this season. Aramis doesn't strike me as the kind of player willing to bet on himself by taking good guaranteed cash up front and putting off free agency another year risking a down season and a poor return in free agency as opposed to going for the multi-year deal in a weak market. I could see him getting $30M fairly easily, all it takes is one team and that team is typically out there year in and year out.
  16. For context this was the post I was referring to in the post I re-posted above: QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Rasmus is hitting like Beckham and playing a little less than average defense. Its amazing Beckham is a bust but the Sox would have a hard time getting someone like Rasmus. So you've invoked Beckham's name yet again in comparison to Rasmus and it seems Rasmus' defense has gone from "less than average" to Mackowiak-bad in the course of 2 weeks. His D hasn't been good and he's struggled the past 2 months while pissing off his manager, seemingly because he doesn't care for McGwire but he's still young, crazy talented and doing certain things well on a whole that show off that potential such as his BB rate. If you're going to give up some major league talent and take a chance on a guy better it be a talented 24 year old who's having a bad year but is coming off a terrific season and will still be fairly cheap next year than a veteran making bank or a rental.
  17. Rasmus has been "garbage" since the end of April yet his OPS since May 1st is 25 points higher than Beckham's season long OPS. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) Yeah, batting average wise but Rasmus is still sporting a .329 wOBA which is well above league average (.315) and was a 4 WAR player last season with a .366 wOBA. Beckham's wOBA is at .297 right now and .305 last season, not good. The thing to love about Rasmus is his 11% walk rate the past 2 seasons with his K rate going from 27% last season down to 20% this season meanwhile Gordon's BB rate is down in the 5's (something he said he wasn't going to worry about this season) and his K rate of 18.5% last season is up to 19.3% this season, right there with Rasmus. You can argue the defensive side of things with Rasmus putting up below average UZR numbers the past 2 seasons and Gordon kicking ass at 2B but their offensive production isn't exactly comparable right now. And yeah, Gordon's a bust because he hasn't produced at all with the bat after excelling as a rookie meanwhile Rasmus is still doing certain things well and struggling with others coming off a very good 2010 at the plate (the .351 BABIP was concerning). That's what I posted on the topic a few weeks back, not much has changed since then. It's the 11% walk rate that Rasmus sports, that's one of the big reasons why his potential is so high, even in a s***ty season when he's fallen apart over the past 2 months (his May was decent, dammit) he's still sporting a good walk rate and his K rate is down from last season, these are good things. Meanwhile Beckham's fallen apart over the past 2 seasons and we've seen his BB rate plummit and his K rate increase.
  18. Magglio Ordonez hit .307 with an .889 OPS in a White Sox uniform, he was a pretty good "pure hitter". Not sure I'm ready to put Viciedo ahead of Maggs.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) It sure helps when you have their payroll. Well when you've sold out every single game for 8+ years dating back to when their payroll was 5th in baseball and only a little more $10M more than the #11 team . . . You also have to make the most of that payroll, something teams seem to have an awful lot of trouble with.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) Drew has been god awful. Add Beltran to that lineup and it's curtains. Must be nice to have a productive farm system. They're an incredible organization; they're probably the best team in baseball, I know they have they best offense and pretty much all of their most productive players this season are either homegrown or were acquired by trading away some of the better prospects in baseball: Gonzalez, Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Beckett, Lester, Buccholz, Papelbon and Bard. To acquire Gonzalez and Beckett they traded way the #10, #35, #40 and #75 prospects in baseball. Ortiz, Wakefield, Aceves and Albers were all scrapheap pickups.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) I prefer not to think about his failure to throw out runners or be a bad defender. Maybe it's partially becasue our pitchers generally do a poor job of holding runners on? It'd be nice if he could get the ball down to 2B on a fly every now and then.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) The swinging the bat part or the running the bases part? Every bit of it. He seems to have unlimited range to his left at thirdbase, it's funny as hell seeing him make a play on a groundball seemingly hit right at the SS. He's just fun to watch in all facits of the game.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Stat guys...have there been more than a few third baseman to get as many at bats as Morel in the last 5-10 years and have a lower OPS? How about Chone Figgins (.473) and Brandon Inge (.483) this season? 225+ PA, and an OPS less than .545? 6 times since 1990. The 2 I mentions above, Pedro Feliz (.533) last season, Craig Paquette (.528) in 2002, Andy LaRoche (.508) in 2008, and the ridiculously bad Brandon Wood (.382) last season.
  24. I love Pablo Sandoval, such a joy to watch.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) Please, please don't let us overpay for a righty reliever. Especially a Padres reliever.
