Fantasy baseball has a very loose connection to the actual game. Lots of singles, runs and stolen bases hold a bit more value in the fantasy game. You definitely need to separate the 2.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Based on the numerous other pitchers that have had their shoulder muscles detach from the bone. All of them had lost some velocity. This is unlike any other injury we've seen from a pitcher before, no one has ANY idea what he's going to look like when he gets back. There's no precedent for this injury.

It's not often that a move suggested on here actually comes to fruition.

So you're saying it's bad out there?

I've seen a good amount of lightning over the past hour or so, pretty cool.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) Does it state how much he will make each year? I hope it's not backloaded. It will almost undoubtedly be back-loaded but nothing crazy, something like: $6M, $8M, $9M, $9M, $500K buyout. By the 3rd year of Alexei's deal the Sox will only have Rios ($12.5M) and Dunn ($15M) under contract and Alexei's all alone in year 4, Rios has a $13.5M team option that season.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) Watched In Bruges since I was there for a night, really liked the movie, but the city gets a bad rep in it, and is really a great place to visit, even for the young. Would you describe it as a fairytale town?

QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 12:13 AM) I thought Viciedo's agent was Jamie Torres, I remember hearing that his relationship with the sox from Alexi helped foster the deal with Viciedo. Like Blaze said: he switched to Boras in March That's what Cots says, looks like they added that recently, last time I checked they had no agent listed for Thornton. Agreed

Jays trade Wells to Angels for Rivera/Napoli

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Is Kyle Drabek included? Neither Rosenthal nor Heyman has mentioned his name. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Hardy as Bane will be very interesting, he'll have to bulk up quite a bit. He certainly showed he was capable of it with his role in Bronson.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) We basically have the same thing Kalapse. Only that I have added 6 Pre-Arb player contracts at $410k a piece, that how I got to about $125.16M. I actually just discovered that the league minimum (Pre-Arb) salary is going to rise to $414.5K in 2011, source here. I guess my salary total is really $125.184M. The only discrepancy I have, which is dumb really, is that I have De Aza playing time at 2.042 and you have at 1.041. My source is here Like I said: take the service time numbers with a grain of salt, none of the websites have updated the service numbers yet, that De Aza number on Cots doesn't take into a account the 2010 season. It's pretty easy to figure out yourself (I just haven't done the work) De Aza was at 2.042 at the time he was recalled on September first and stayed through the end of the season earning him about 33 days of service so his true service number is probably 2.075. Chris Sale was up for about 41 days so he's at 0.041 Viciedo was up for about 62 days then demoted in August and recalled again on September 7th through the end of the season which is another 27 days so his number is around 0.089 Flowers was at 0.034 before September first when he was recalled, add on another 33 days and he's at 0.067 Harrell was up for a day then demoted then recalled again on August 25th through the end of the year which puts him at 0.041 Gregory Infante logged 33 days so 0.033 Brent Lillibridge was at 0.162, was recalled on June 1st and stayed through the end of the season which is 125 days so: 0.162 + 0.125 = 1.115 (0.172 = 1.000) Jeff Marquez logged 2 or 3 days in the majors last season, really doesn't matter. Brent Morel picked up about 31 days so 0.031 Phil Humber logged 60 or so major league service days last season from August 5th to October 3rd and was supposedly at 0.112 so that would push him to 1.000 (the margin of error is probably 2 days so this one is tricky) These numbers should be accurate to within a day or 2 (since we don't know precisely what time of day each player was recalled, believe it or not this does matter) unless I totally missed something, I just prefer to wait for the official numbers. And like I said: I just don't think minimum contract mean much, if you try to keep it that accurate you'll be befuddled by the all star break. So with the updated service numbers AND newly updated option years:

QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) I have 26 guys on my White Sox Payroll sheet, basically becuase of Lillibridge and De Aza, both will make the 2011 league minimum, which is set at 410K for 2011. Its possible only 1 makes the roster, but its possible that both make the roster and Viciedo starts in AAA, in which case all 3 guys salaries count for 2011 payroll since Viciedo's is guaranteed. So I included all 3 salaries towards payroll. My calculations have the White Sox committed at $125.16M to 26 players for 2011. This includes: Buehrle (14M) + Peavy (16M) + Jackson (8.35M) + Danks (6M) + Floyd (5M) + Sale (.41M) + Santos (.41M) + Thornton (3M) + Crain (4M) + Pena (1.6M) + Ohman (1.5M) + Castro (1.2M) + AJ (2M) + Vizquel (1.75M) + Viciedo (1.25M) + Morel (.41M) + Beckham (.41M) + Ramirez (2.75M) + Lillibridge (.41M) + Konerko (12M) + Teahen (4.75M) + Quentin (5.05M) + Rios (12M) + Pierre (8.5M) + De Aza (.41M) + Dunn (12M) This includes the break even money coming in for Pierre (+3.5M) and the money going out for Linebrink (-3.5M). 2011 Payroll Commitments + Money In/Money Out= $125.16 (26 Players) I wouldn't even bother with players making the minimum, every team's going to have at least 4 on their opening day roster and maybe 4+ more through August making the prorated minimum. This just becomes convoluted when you go that deep.

Here's what my personal spreadsheet looks like. Any service time in blue is updated, the rest are not, take the options with a grain of salt as I haven't updated them yet. I'll update the main graphic once the service times show up online, it's just a lot more work than and Excel spreadsheet.

Teahen just got married, I somehow doubt he was hanging out with Cora and the kids in Miami during his honeymoon.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Somehow, Kyle Farnsworth always ends up with a relatively lucrative contract. Mediocre reliever with a big arm hangs around for over a decade, racks up only 27 career saves and still manages to pull in over $33M in his career. Good stuff.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) Gotcha. I get it now. I just click the overall team payroll numbers and go from that. I don't look at them individually. Looks like Cots just split the signing bonus up into $2M increments for each of the 3 years of the deal which is incorrect, it was payed in two installments during the 2010 season. Looks like you were misled, honest mistake.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) Then Cots is confusing me. It has him due 21 million over the next two years. # $6M signing bonus # 10:$1M, 11:$8.5M, 12:$8.5M That's straight from cots.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) So the A's are paying a portion of his salary? Didn't know that. That's still way too much, IMO. I wouldn't touch him. Go with Tony Pena if you have to. How much do you think Blanton is being paid? He gets $8.5M a year for the next 2 seasons. it was a 3 year, $24M deal with a $6M signing bonus and $1M in salary for year 1.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) I don't recall a single person on here calling Danks and Quentin greedy for turning down their extensions. Pretty much everybody knows exactly why they did it. Just looking back at the Floyd extension thread (it was reported at that time that the Sox made the same offer to all 3 players, so Padilla's recycling news that's 2 years old) these were the only things said about Danks: QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) If you refuse to sign free agents to market deals, then you have to do stuff like this. I'm fine with it. putting a staff together piecemeal is how we did it immediately prior to 05. If it means payroll stays up later by getting big bashers in the lineup (once Dye/Pk/JT are gone) then i will be ok with doing it this way. But Danks is smart to wait and see. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) I'd prefer we locked up Danks. And replying to Steve: QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) He's going to cost significantly more money. It's been discussed in multiple threads since then, to the best of my recollection the word greedy has never been used.
-
Yeah, Doug Padilla is recycling old news here. The Sox offered Floyd, Danks and Quentin the same contract and only Floyd took it. 4/$15 was an incredible low ball offer for Danks.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) Here's the original McCarthy/Danks thread for those wanting to reminisce. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56073 Tried to find the Garcia for Floyd/Gonzalez thread but came up empty. Nevermind. Found it. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55750 lol. These are too damn funny. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) I heard it as well, works for me. Good for me. I was just glad we were able to get a anything for a starting pitcher that was quite obviously injured, regardless of how well he pitched near the end of the season. You don't get bluechippers for a starter who lost as much velocity as Garcia did between '05 and '06. 2 young starters for Flamethrower Freddy? s*** yeah. I like how I seemingly learned my lesson from the Thome trade (when I freaked the f*** out) and didn't say a damn thing in the Danks thread, aside from predicting that Mark Buehrle would not pitch for St. Louis while still in his prime. I really have no idea how I felt about the McCarthy trade. I wish I could find my first post on the site. It was some psychotic rant about how f***ing horrible Ben Davis is.
