  1. D.Lee and A.Ram will probably end up starting in the All-Star game. Good to see Beltran dropped from number 1 to #3 in the outfield. Carlos Lee moved up from 15 to 14 as well w00t.
  2. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) well, with relievers, it's all about how many runners you allow to score, be it yours or someone elses. and the only way you're getting in ahead of a closer is if you are perfect in the inherited runners scored department. because if it's close, i value a save a little more highly than a hold. so wickman, who has 21 saves and a damn good era, is getting in ahead of cliff politte, who pitches the 7th and 8th and has a damn good era. Wickman's 2.79 ERA is not damn good, it's good but not damn good. Take a look at BJ Ryan(1.82), Gaurdado(1.67) and Rivera(0.91) those are the types of ERAs a closer is supposed to have not a high 2. I'm going to go against myself and say f*** Wickman. I hadn't seen his full stats. He can stay home.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) I'm wondering why? Maybe he'll talk to KW privately? But probably not. My guess, their looking at Carl and Marte. BMAC is starting on Wednesday.
  4. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) note to soxtalk -- this is not, i repeat, NOT, rotisserie baseball. Then what do you go by when judging a pitchers performance?
  5. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Of course the solution to our 4th playoff starter problem is: El Contreduque Any chance we could just split every 4th game between them?? The trouble would be figuring out which one to have start the game! You could have Contreras go 4 or 5 and then have Duke piggyback him. Usually Contreras is pretty solid through the first 6 and gets hit hard in the 7th.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Halladay Colon Buehrle Rodgers Santana B.J.Ryan Rivera Guardado Pollite Timlin Garland?
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) OK.. not sure yet. Might just wear my Jenkins jersey instead. I'd go with the Jenkins jersey. Even though it is a C.Lee jersey it's still the Sox and I always hate it when I see Cubs fans wearing Cubs jersey's at Sox games.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) LMAO!!! It's OK... happens to all of us occasionally. Is tomorrow a day game for the Cubs? 1:20 First pitch.
  9. Look at the stats. Why should Crain go over Politte? Because he has 1 more win or because he has 5.1 more innings or is it that his ERA is 9 points lower (ERA is very overrated for relief pitchers)? Politte is on a better team, he has a lower BAA, lower WHIP, lower OPSA, and a higher K/9. Not to mention the fact that Politte has inherited 5 more runners than Crain and Politte has had 1 less runner score. Politte is more deserving than Crain...period.
  10. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) he's not better than crain. and if he wasn't a white sock, you wouldn't be arguing this. Easy to say that when you only look at a couple of the stats.
  11. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) he's not better than crain. and if he wasn't a white sock, you wouldn't be arguing this. Look at all the stats and say that again.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) Um "would be be unacceptable to wear a Lee Sox jersey to the Cubs game tomorrow...???" I'm a f***ing idiot. Appearantly I can't read.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) LMAO!! OT... would be be unacceptable to wear a Lee Sox jersey to the Cubs game tomorrow...??? Is it a White Sox jersey?
  14. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) This has to be my favorite post, hands down: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=730427 Kalapse June 15, 2005 I hate you.
  15. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Is their any reports back in Chicago about Schmidt coming to the Sox None at all.
  16. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) How long do you think it'll take Mark to dispose of the Tiger trash tonight? Guesses must be down to the minute, Price is Right rules apply. Whoever is closest without going over wins.......... a nice swift boot to the plums. 2 Hours, 31 Minutes.
  17. How wrong can you be? QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) It's all about flying under the radar If we wanted an old backup catcher, why not keep Sandy? In the end, this will not factor in a single win or loss this season. BTW, IMHO, Widger will not be here in July. This could be a giant :finger wakeup call for Davis.
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) Thanks. Using my 93 characters, I asked him why Timlin is an ALl-Star over Cliff Politte considering Cliff has a much better BAA, WHIP, and K/9. You didn't use the Inherited Runners scored arguement? That's the most solid.
  19. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) It looks like Burnett will be going to Baltimore That trade was shot down completely by Peter Gammons who called it a stupid trade for the Orioles.
  20. Torii Hunter has said twice already this year that the Sox have won the division and the Twins should focus on the Wild Card. Botht times the Sox went on win streaks. The second time he said it the Sox gained 6 games on the Twins in the standings. The Sox are not going to get comfortable at the top as long as Ozzie is running the team.
  21. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) Well that makes me feel better. He's got a hell of an arm, and if his injuries have subsided like you said, I'd take a long look at him if the price is right. But I'd still be concerned. The guy has never started 30 games in a season. A.J. Burnett - Stats Regarding AJ Burnett's durability issues: QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) A.J. Burnett has some serious durability issues that must be looked at before even thinking about trading for him. '99 - GS: 7 IP: 41.1 ERA: 3.48 '00 - GS: 13 IP: 82.2 ERA: 4.79 '01 - GS: 27 IP: 173.1 ERA: 4.05 '02 - GS: 29 IP: 204.1 ERA: 3.30 '03 - GS: 4 IP: 23.0 ERA: 4.70 '04 - GS: 19 IP: 120.0 ERA: 3.68 '05 - GS: 15 IP: 103.1 ERA: 3.14 He's played 7 professional seasons in his career (5 Full -1 for Rookie season -1 for injury in '03) and over those 7 seasons he's only had 1 seaon of 200 IP or more and he's only had 2 seasons of 150 IP or more. In the other 5 seosons he didn't even break 121 IP in any of them. This should be a serious concern for any pitcher that thows as hard as he does. Last year was his comback season after having Tommy John's surgery at the beginning of the '03 season. He has only missed a few starts since then which is incouraging seeing how TJ surgery tends to strengthen the arms of some pitchers who have the surgery. Before you just start throwing McCarthy, Sweeney, Anderson, Marte or any other prospects/major league talent at them you first have to be absolutely sure that he is fully back from the injury and a flare up is not on the horizon. I know that it is impossible to gaurentee a player will not get injured but when you're going to be dealing some of your most promising prospects and/or major league players you have to take into account his past injuries.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) Write a note explaining his behavior towards you and send it and the picture back to the Sox... I'm sure Ozzie would love to get a hold of that.
  23. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Hasn't Burnett been pretty injury prone? He's got nasty stuff, but I'm not sure I'd break the bank for the Marlins equivalent of Kerry Wood. Burnett was injured in '03 but had Tommy John's Surgery early in the season. He came back after the All-Star break of '04 and has been pretty healthy since. The TJ Surgery seems to have strengthened his elbow and his arm problems are all but gone. He's not even close to as injury prone as Wood.
  24. Jason Schmidt Contract: '05: $8.75 /2 = $4.375 '06: $10.0 option Edgardo Alfonso: '05: $6.5 /2 = $3.25 '06: $7.0 Combined: '05: $15.25 /2 = $7.625 '06: $17.0 Total Salary taking on = $24.625 -------------------------------- Is that really affordable?
  25. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) Buehrle Burnett Garcia Garland Contreras Agreed. Burnett>Schmidt. 4 years younger and his arm problems don't scare me like Schmidt's do. Also I hate the idea of Crede for Alfonso. It's like we're trading good young talent for 30+year old injured players.
