  1. QUOTE(S720 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) You mean "Let's start another 9-gamer!" GO SOX and Buerhle... We havn't had a 9 game winning streak all year. We've had three 8 game winning streaks. Am I missing something?
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) The thing is if the M's had gotten Crede, they wouldn't have gotten Beltre in the off-season. How's that worken out for em.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Aaron Gleeman doesn't think so, oh and he doesn't think Jon Garland is an All - Star either; He's going strickly by past performance and reprutation. That's f***ing stupid the All-Star game is supposed to recognize the best players of the current season, not what they did in past seasons. I can't believe he has Mariano Rivera on the All-Star team, Gleeman has lost a lot of respect from me, not that I had much for him to begin with.
  4. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) if torre wasn't picking the team, he wouldn't have gone. jeter wouldn't have half of his all-star appearances if not for torre. and as someone mentioned further down, if any middle reliever should go, it should be crain. BUT, what starter/closer are you leaving home to take politte? Look at the stats. Why should Crain go over Politte? Because he has 1 more win or because he has 5.1 more innings or is it that his ERA is 9 points lower (ERA is very overrated for relief pitchers)? Politte is on a better team, he has a lower BAA, lower WHIP, lower OPSA, and a higher K/9. Not to mention the fact that Politte has inherited 5 more runners than Crain and Politte has had 1 less runner score. Politte is more deserving than Crain...period.
  5. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) To get talent, you have to trade it away; this was one of those rare exceptions where both teams walk away happy. Freddy was always one of my favorite MLB pitchers and despite trading away The Chosen One, I feel awfully good watching Freddy trot out every fifth day--not to mention the absolute steal we were able to re-sign him for. It's not rare with KW (atleast recently), he pulled off a trade a couple months later that both the Sox and Brewers are pretty happy about.
  6. Just take a look at Tom Gordon's pre All-Star game numbers from last year when he was an Allstar. IP: 50.2 W-L: 2-3 ERA: 1.78 WHIP: 0.83 OPP BA: 1.61
  7. The WHIP, BAA and Inherited runners scored are decisevly one sided. You have to take stock into inherited runners scored when judging a middle reliever, it shows if they are getting the job done in clutch situations. The clutch stat for hitters is BAw/RISP&2outs for pitchers it's inherited runners scored. 24-4 is ridiculous, that is a very dominate reliever. 14-9 is piss poor, hell just seeing that he's only come in with 14 runners on base shows me that they may not have confidence in him to get batters out with runners on. Politte is deserving of an All-Star spot, along with Hermanson.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) I know but Connie Payton is not Walter Payton. I guess I don't understand why she's viewed as an idol or something. Her husband was a great player and a great man, she has done a lot to help people through the success of her husband. Plus when possibly the biggest sports idol other than Jordan dies and his wife makes herself available to the public eye, she's going to become pretty popular.
  9. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) Ummm, why? The crowd was loud as hell. You were there, you should know.
  10. It was pretty cool seeing some of the 85' Bears at the game today. [cheap shot]Luckily Dave Duerson managed to get through the ceremony without hitting his wife.[/cheap shot] P.S.: Connie Payton throws like a girl. I got chills when they announced her name.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Worst. Sig. Evar. You're just jealous. I'm working on that Vizcaino sig you PMed me about.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) I wouldn't give up anything for clemens. He is too old and would not resign. 20 million a year? No thanks. There is no option of his coming here. He wouldn't come here anyway, so it's kinda a moot point.
  13. QUOTE(Stephen @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) Would love to see the Sox get Schmidt but I don't think it's going to happen. I definately would feel better if we picked up another ace. I think the Cubans have given us their best, but will be below average for the most part here on out. Valid points. Welcome to Soxtalk.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) Kalapse or Milkman can you guys link me to where Jim said that I'm not sure if it's in this thread or not but I can't find it. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=745760
  15. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Go to the Jason Schmidt to the Sox thread and tell people to post in the All-Encompassing Trade thread. I don't see the problem here. The Jason Schmidt thread was started before the Gigantic Trade thread. It's not the same thing, this is why PHT always gets all cloged up with 12 threads of the same subject. Here I pulled a post from the Meltdown thread for you: QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) Well when your offense is ranked 20th in the majors in BA just above the mighty royals maybe its a credible thing to question our offense and how it will rate in the post season. We are also 21st in the majors in OBP. This is a problem when it comes to competing against top rate pitching. We are basically the same softball offense as last year with 2 fast guys at the top. If they get on its not a solo homer. If they dont its a solo homer. Ya, that's nothing like what this thread is about.
  16. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) I don't see how you don't see the difference between people ranting about how bad we are because we lost two of three to the Cubs and a thread about our hitting against good pitching in general. Go read the Meltdown thread and tell me that same thing. The only thing being discussed in there for the last 4 pages is how bad our offense is and how we're f***ed when the playoffs roll around.
  17. I don't see much of a point in making a new thread for this seeing how this exact topic is being discussed in the Meltdown thread right now.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) With the way El Duque's been since going on the DL and with Contreras gradually coming back down to earth, I would absolutely love for Kenny to get a stud pitcher. I couldn't care less about McCarthy. I've seen too many sure prospects turn to garbage to give a rat's ass about him. I'm not saying he won't be good, but he sure as hell is no sure thing. I'd trade him along with every other prospect we have for a proven talent. I'm in the same boat as you. In my eyes there are no untradeable prospects, McCarthy/Anderson/Sweeney/Tracey/Baj/Valido/Young, I don't give a s*** who they are or how well they play in the minors. If trading them can net us a stud player for the bullpen/rotation/lineup, go for it and bring them in. Seeing Reed and Morse in Seattle doesn't bother me one bit because all I have to do is take a look at the Sox rotation and see that stud in the 2nd spot hell just watch Friday's game and then tell me you miss Reed, Morse or Olivo.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) It was Chisoxfn, if I remember correctly. And that guy seems to know what he's talking about. Therefore, I believe what he says. If it was said in this thread then it wasn't Jason it was Jim. They are both extremely reliable sources. This was the quote from this thread: QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Guys ... I think the Ted Lilly thing might be close. That was all he said. I trust him as a reliable source however I just don't see the Sox getting Lilly but I wouldn't put anything past KW.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) From what most people around here are saying, it's almost a done deal that we're getting Lilly. Since when do you listen to what people around here say and take it seriously. Lilly is an option but there is absolutely no gaurentee KW will get him, in fact I'd bet against it.
  21. Believe me I've looked, it can't be found. I think I've seen that video about 23 times and it never gets old. The video they show during Thunderstrucking is badass too.
  22. Or Mondo-Prospect Package: 1. McCarthy 2. Jenks/Baj 3. Sweeney
  23. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) The Florida Marlins are considering trading right-hander A.J. Burnett, a blockbuster move that would alter the pennant races in both leagues, The Sporting News has learned. The Marlins are engaged in preliminary discussions about Burnett with the Orioles and a second, unidentified American League club. Their goal in trading Burnett, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, would be to obtain three major-league parts — a young starting pitcher, quality reliever and left-handed hitting outfielder. 1. Jon Adkins - Young Starting Pitcher0 2. Luis Vizcaino - Quality Reliever 3. Timo Perez - Left-handed hitting outfielder 1. Sean Tracey 2. Damaso Marte 3. Joe Borchard/Ryan Sweeney 1. Brandon McCarthy 2. Luis Vizcaino/Shingo Takatsu 3. Timo Perez/Joe Borchard
  24. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Jared Reiner Blasphemy!! He's the rebound king.
