  1. QUOTE(MinnySoxFan @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) There are too many pictures on here but you can turn them off so that's not an issue. Everybody can have it their own way...which is nice. My only issue, and I'm going to get totally flamed for this because I really have no reason to say anything since I just started posting last week, is that the board allows to much swearing and innappropriate things be posted. I'm no prude and I swear a lot when I talk but for some reason I feel that it makes the board feel more juvenile with all of the swearing. Maybe I just feel like forums are more of a public venue where you use public manners and try and not swear, but that's just me. I'm not saying this place has to change but it may be a reason I look for a different Sox board. And it's too bad because there's a lot of really good posters here that know their Sox baseball and I'd love to have this be my board. Part of why I thought about this also was that I wanted to suggest a good place for my dad to follow Sox games in Minnesota besides just checking the sports or mlb sites that do gameday stuff but I really couldn't suggest this place to him because it's way too vulgar. Again, I'm really not trying to rip on this place. It's a great forum and everybody likes their forums different and if you guys like it that way that's totally fine. I just like one that's a little more heavily moderated in that regards. Now feel free to curse me out for this post... The entire purpose of this site, the way I see it, is to give Sox fans a venue to express their feelings towards thier favorite team in a forum moderated a less strickly than other boards. This way people can express their true feelings without being censored. Again this is IMO. I never found the language on this site to be a problem, you don't see a ton of senseless vulgarity. People will use profaine language to express the way they feel about a situation. There are no personal attacks towards others using vulgarity, it's usually used towards a certain situation. I personally like the feel of the site where it's just a bunch of Sox fans talking about there team, using the kind of language they would use if they were talking in person. Sometimes you just have to use that kind of language to get across the way you feel and vent. Using a censored vocab. just doesn't do the trick sometimes. You're entitled to your opinion and I have a feeling noone is going to flame you for it. The stuff you read in the forums is nothing. You should check out the game chat, we let loose in there.
  2. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) I think ERA is almost useless to evaluate a relief pitcher. And it doesn't matter to me how many strike outs he gets if he's a closer and starts innings himself. To me the way to value a relief pitcher, beyond saves for a closer, is the percentage of his appearances where he holds opponents scoreless. In my brief look at this, Lidge didn't perform any better than Neal Cotts or Cliff Politte, and he was worse than Hermanson. (But if ERA obsesses you, then Lidge's 2.73 is also worse than those three guys and only scarcely better than Marte's 2.81.) You only looked at Lidge's numbers for this season. Take a look at the past 2.
  3. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) The Sox need to focus and go on another winning streak starting Tuesday. We need to get this 9 1/2 lead up to 15. After the all-star break, Minnesota has a rough schedule. Maybe if we get a 15 game lead, the Twins and Cub fans will shut up. Right now, they're all saying (esp at my work) the Sox will choke and Minnie will eventually pass us. They never shut up about it. One more month of solid play, and they'll all shut up. Ahhhh.. I can't wait for that day. When do you guys think they'll eventually all shut up?? When they're all dead they'll STFU but until then you have to bear it.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Dumbass....look at your boy Damaso walking the 1st guy he see's. Wow, then he get's a lucky DP against DLee.... :headshake If your seriously think Cotts is better than Lidge.... He got Neifi Perez to hit into a DP. D.Lee hit a line drive single off the wall in left field.
  5. I didn't submit an answer for either question, been busy as hell. Oh well looks like I'm out of the lead.
  6. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) anybody who is freaking out is dumb, end of story. sometimes i hate sox fans. Hell I'm perfectly calm and I was at the game. Of course I did just down a Giant Gyro from Nicky's not to mention the double cheeseburger I got at Maxwell Street Depot this morning. Chicago has the best f***ing food....period.
  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 06:55 AM) Can we proclaim a guy a superstar after only a few weeks? Not only can we do that but appearantly we can do it to lesser players.
  8. QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) He said this stuff on Friday..didn't you read it? No. I just remember Hunter saying the same thing a couple weeks ago and people claiming that he's trying to play mind games with the Sox. Since then the Sox have gained like 7 1/2 games in the standings.
  9. Is this a paper printing old Torii Hunter quotes or is Hunter saying this s*** again?
  10. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) What kind? The kind you'd be interested in seeing. Don't deny it.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) Casey will probably make it I'd imagine. Johnson potentially could too. I'd bet money that Lee is resigned, and I would almost be willing to put money on it that Huff is traded and then resigned. I don't think there's any chance in hell that the Cubs let Derrek Lee file for free agency. But a fella can dream.
  12. There's like 2 action shots of Timo in the world.
  13. Gill kicked Biley's ass. He knocked him down three times, he won by TKO. Kendall is now 1-0-0 with 1KO in his pro career.
  14. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) I kind of have a man crush on Nick Johnson. Who doesn't. The guy does nothing but rake.
  15. The Twins are now 39 and 33. That's only 6 games over .500 They are seriously scuffling and we are taking full advantage, with the exception of today's game.
  16. It is also appearant that Jerome Williams will be piggybacking Mark Prior tommorrow.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Hermie! I posted a couple of link to stories on the White Sox main site where they spell it that way. You make me sick.
  18. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) What's the secret to making such a nice sig? Magic
  19. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) If it's any cosolation I thought you were in your twenties.. I think he fooled a lot of us. Happy B-Day LOS
  20. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) B) I'm pretty sure his Ks per 9 are pretty crappy if that story is right lol
  21. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) jesus. you're some tight-ass mothers on here. i'll try and elevate my comedic posts to the levels of simply leaving smilies. See that you do.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) Yes I know it was supposed to be a joke but it was written correctly. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Yes 35 and 2 outs. More K's than innings=good K/9. His observation was that it looked like 325 innings pitched. Because the 2 in 2/3 did not have a space in front of it. Lousy observation on his part.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Someone may have posted this already, in which case I apologize (it's the first time I've started a topic). But this was an encouraging blurb from the Trib: The Sox may have relief help within their organization. Double-A Birmingham closer Bobby Jenks and outfielder Chris Young were named to play for the United States in the seventh annual Futures Game on July 10 in Detroit. Jenks, 24, is second in the Southern League with 16 saves with 40 strikeouts in 352/3 innings. "Jenks is on a faster track than Young," said Dave Wilder, the Sox's director of player development. "He's up to 98 [m.p.h.] every day." 98??? That's sick. It would be nice to see Jenks fill the roll that Vizcaino is failing to hold down.
  24. That means no Baj or Anderson in the futures game. That sucks. Although I really didn't expect Anderson to make it after he wasn't named an All-Star this week.
