  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Kal, you've got to be really, really desperate...either to cover for ManRam or just to nitpick for accuracy...to go with that one. It's nitpicking but it's also the truth. I have no reason to defend him since I really don't care that he's almost definitely a user, we've gotten to the point where I can't think of a single player that I'm even 50% certain didn't use so how can I be too upset with those that actually got caught? It's become a part of the game, if I let it bother me I'd have to stop watching all together. The only thing I worry about at this point is a past user being acquired and falling flat on his face because he's off the juice, Manny's still produced this season when he's managed to find the field so that isn't a big concern for me.
  2. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) Are you accusing someone? Odds are, you may be right. Odds in Manny's case: 100%. Suspended last year, the idiot. He's a known commodity. and yes, that includes his being a great hitter. It's not 100%, it's more like 99% since he wasn't suspended steroid use it was a female fertility drug used by steroid users to restore testosterone production to normal levels.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) They're not. He was asking why they didn't use an iPhone etc early on in the game. I was under the assumption that everyone was in the dugout or bullpen early in the game, thus unable to use equipment. Usually the teams rely on the umpires and grounds crew to tell them what's going on with the weather. You're the only one that brought up the dugout, I don't really see why where a "no electronics" rule plays a role in any of this. The Sox knew what the forecast was before and during the game yesterday, not being aloud to have a cell phone in the dugout doesn't hamper them in the least.
  4. Supposedly major league baseball has a rule that any suspended game must be played after the next scheduled game at the earliest forcing them to play after the 6:00 game today. Playing a day game today was not an option. At least that's what I've heard.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) I don't know if they are completely shut off, but coaches and players can't have electronic devices in the dugout. The clubhouse is a few paces down the tunnel, plenty of options in there. Not sure why the entire team would be confined to the dugout.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) Why the hell does the second game start at 10 p.m. (at least according to ESPN)? Heat? Thank FOX and their f***ing exclusivity contract with MLB.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Tell him I said hi right back. PK is having just as good a year, if not slightly better, than Gonzalez. Votto
  8. Is it weird that I'm not pleased when the manager of my favorite sports team tells me to get f***ed or to not watch the club anymore? I'm just glad we're running a classy organization.
  9. Shockingly LaRoche has turned it on in the second half: .319/.359/.571/.931. It's just unbelievable how consistent he is from year to year with his second half performance.
  10. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) A team had claimed Luke Scott off waivers but was pulled back by the Orioles. Trying to see if my guy knows anything about who claimed him. That's hardly surprising, wouldn't be surprised at all if Seattle put in a claim. There's next to no risk in claiming a guy like Scott.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) Werth was also a former 1st rounder, IIRC. He showed up on BA's top 100 prospects list 4 times ('99, '00, '02, '03).
  12. Werth was always an incredible talent (22nd overall pick in '97), he broke his wrist in Spring Training of '05 which accounted for his down year in his second full season and forced him out for all of 2006. That's what f***ed up his career trajectory, I mean he was in the majors and playing well at age 25, the wrist injury robbed him of his age 26 and 27 seasons, not an all-out lack of production or development. He's produced in the majors whenever his wrist wasn't killing him.
  13. Rosenthal had a quote from an executive about a week ago saying that basically everyone is being blocked, no one is getting through. This is hardly surprising since almost all the good players that may be available have reasonable contracts.

  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) I can't believe the Red Sox are willing to give Carlos Delgado $3 million. It's a prorated $3M, he's only going to make about 1/6 of that. Still a lot of money given Delgado's status.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) Just read through the game thread since I had to work tonight. Thought it was a good thread overall. This post was a classic in the "no class" department. I always feel for guys who get hurt. Injuries suck. Real hard to drum up sympathy for a player who injures himself while loafing.

    Films Thread

Just from the trailers I imagine Steve Carell was unbearable.
  18. Linebrink over his last 11 outings: 10.2 IP 8H, 2BB, 8K, 0.937 WHIP, 0.84 ERA He's good now, go ahead claim him off waivers. You're getting a good arm. Do it.
  19. Wait, so the topic of conversation around here of late has been the $31M that Manny deferred over a 16 year span starting in 2011 when he signed his RED SOX extension, right? What about the extra $25M left in deferred money that the DODGERS gave him in 2009 that runs through 2013? # for 2009, Ramirez receives $10M in 2009 and $15M in 3 installments of $5M paid each June 30, 2010 to 2012 # if Ramirez does not opt out, he receives $5M in 2010 and $15M in 3 installments of $3,333,333 each on June 30, 2011 and 2012, and $8,333,333 on June 30, 2013 Manny has like $56M in deferred money coming to him between now and 2026. I find this all just unbelievably confusing.
  20. Hanley Ramirez has the 10th highest wOBA of any hitter in the game over the past 3 seasons and that's including his ~.350 from this year. There are 8 first baseman ahead of him, a LF and a 3B. The next closest SS is 29th (Tulo). Alexei is ranked 107 out of 131 (tied with JJ Hardy). Hanley's also 9th in batting average and 8th in SB over that same time. He's having the worst year of his career after being a top 5 offensive player over the 3 previous seasons, perfect time to compare Alexei to Hanley. Between '07-'09 only Pujols, A-Rod, Holliday and Chipper had a higher wOBA.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) All this s*** confuses me. Dunn was announced to be on waivers today. Did the Nats openly announce that or something? A club probably leaked it. You won't hear about a lot of names on waivers, just a few that get leaked by a opposing clubs.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Stats guru's how do I find Alexeis line from May through today? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...atting_gamelogs
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) If you look at the line up, Konerko is playing DH. So if you want to sit Konerko in favor of Dayan, that would be an interesting argument. As for Dayan starting at 3b, he hasnt been that great defensively (arguably a liability) and I believe the game Kalapse is referring to the other team was starting a lhp. I want Dayan to get more at bats, I just think that the majority of those at bats should be coming from the DH spot, which is being used by Konerko tonight. Even if it was against a LHP, you'd think you'd trade a downgrade in offense for a major upgrade in defense with a ground ball pitcher making his major league debut.
