QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Sox are done, they'll grab a bat on the waiver wire, let it go. Just keep telling yourself that.
-
jgoff670 No Dunn deal. Sox were offering Jackson and Flowers, Nats wanted Jackson and Viciedo. less than a minute ago via web
-
Adam Dunn is in uniform and on the field.
-
Rizzo, Wriggleman, KW second hand and every national reporter out there OR Jason Goff yeah

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) You can easily grab a Luke Scott, LaRoche that way. I don't really want Luke Scott (assuming he goes unlcaimed, which he really shouldn't), the asking price is ridiculous, that's not going to change a few weeks later. And sure you can grab LaRoche assuming no one claims him and his tiny salary AND the D-backs ask for next to nothing in return.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) August 30th is the deadline. Why can't people f***ing understand this? August is for overpaid/underperforming/injured players to the dumped or dealt for low level guys. Fun.
-
It just means we have to trade low level guys. Viciedo, Torres, Flowers, Santos, Beckham and probably Nunez are all off the market unless we're dealing with the Orioles. Yeah, not easy to stay optimistic. Looks like we could just put all our eggs in the Manny basket.

What a tremendously disappointing moment.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Don't forget waivers till August 30th. Which should make all those who want so badly to keep Dayan around happy because he really can't be traded after today unless it's to the Orioles same goes for Santos, Torres, Flowers and probably Nunez.

I feel a big old sigh coming on.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) While Id like to improve the offense, KW just doesnt have the bullets this year, unless he wants to give up something that will hurt the Sox in the future (Beckham/Dayan). I am more optimistic than other Sox fans about the current team because I think that Beckham/Dayan can have big second halves and that if the Sox work Teahen, Dayan and Vizquel right that they can overcome some of the worries at DH/3b. There's little doubt in my mind that Dayan is headed for the minors, I'd say it'll be upon Teahen's return at the latest. He's only being used against LHP and plays the same positions as Teahen (who they'll have to find some kind of PT for when he returns without sacrificing Kotsay's ABs), seems like he's played a very specialized role on this club, one that would be eliminated with the return of Teahen.

Jonathan Sanchez was seen hugging teammates in the dugout. Wasn't his name thrown out there as the possible cost for Dunn on the Giants end?

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) per Cot's contracts: Yeah, a 1 year contract avoiding arbitration, like any other player with 3-5 years of service. Take a look at his service time, I bet it's under 4 isn't it? That means after this year he'll be up over 4, meaning 2 more years of ARB. Have to get to 6 to be a free agent.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) Scott will get the O's a decent return..but nothing amazing, he's a rental player like Dunn I think Ozzie would rather have Scott than Dunn to be honest, he can play defense 45 minutes left boys Scott is NOT a rental player. He's still under team control for 2 more years via arbitration.
-
Luke Scott still worries the s*** out of me. The price is going to be high and he's probably going to have a nice regression here. (which may have started in the Toronto series)
-
QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Hell no. The Sox dont need to trade any more prospects. This power hitter could of been signed the last two Winters for no prospects. (Matsui, Vlad, Dunn, Thome, Manny, Abreu, Damon, BYRD) So all we need is a time machine?
-
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) I would guess Torres, not that he's awesome, but I think the Sox would go with that, or see if someone passes through waivers. I would guess a combination of both. Torres becomes the 5th starter and you look to upgrade through waivers, there should be some pitchers out there.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) I could live with it as is. I'd like to get a bat, but I don't want to trade Viciedo for a rental. We've got lefties covered pretty well from a DH standpoint...it's just the DH against righties we've got to worry about...and that is a weakness, but I don't think it's the end of the world. In my opinion, we could definitely win with this roster. Our left handed production in general has basically been the worst in the AL as the Mariners recently passed us in LHB OPS and that's with Vizquel playing out of his mind, Teahen should help some but how much?
-
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) not hard to be better than Kotsay, but Cantu is only a 90 OPS+ this year... beside that, Rangers got him because Kinsler is on the DL with a groin, that's an injury that can linger or pop up again when Rangers plate late season games or playoffs in a cold weather stadium The Rangers got Cantu because Davis blows, they got GUZMAN because Kinsler is injured.

QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) Yeah, and he pitched really well for the Tigers. He's actually pitched a lot better than his ERA suggests this year as well. I'm not sure there's a TON there that needs to be fixed. He gets a lot of groundball outs and a fair share of Ks. He pitched in front of a horrid defense and still would have had about a 4 ERA this year if not for 18 earned he gave up over 6 1/3 innings against the Rockies and Cubs in late April early May. Yeah, a lot better: 4.30 ERA as opposed to 5.00, wow. He also pitched a lot worse last year than his ERA suggests, so it's evened out. Also you can't just erase 2 outings, you can do that with a ton of bad pitchers, take away a few s***ty outings and things start to look better. He's been terrible since the no-hitter, it's not like he's on some sort of incredible stretch aside from a couple bad outings early in the year. You say there isn't a ton to be fixed yet 4 other teams have have failed to tap into that potential, yet we're the special team that will turn him around over the course of 3 days because of our magic pitching coach.
-
QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) I actually like him. Another top top prospect, this guy was #4 overall at one point. Still young, still throws really hard, and except for two really awful games this year, he's pitched similar to last year. We're the FIFTH organization to take on this project. This isn't Contreras or Thornton who were only with 1 org. previously, this is a guy who's been around and dealt away for very little a few times, never staying in 1 place for too long. And now we have to fix him in 3 days time.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) You have to wait a certain amount of time before calling him back up. 10 days unless there's an injury.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) I don't see a fit with him and the Sox really. Wasn't insinuating that the Sox were involved just pointing out that something interesting was going on.
-
Austin Kearns was just unusually pulled for a pinch runner. Something to keep an eye on.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) What's going on with the KW press conference? Anyone listening? Well KW said that they want to change just one thing with Jackson's mechanics. Sounds like he's staying.
