masnBen #Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said the price won't come down on Adam Dunn before the deadline. #mlb less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Wharris, Dont you know Brandon Allen was Ruth and Hudson was Cy Young. We gave away everything for nothing! DAMN THEM! (haha) Anyways for all the love Hudson is getting, people seem to forget that Jackson was basically untouchable in the Dodger farm system and was considered one of the top future pitchers in all of baseball not to long ago. Hyperbole serves no purpose but to aggravate others. Such a condescending way to discuss a topic.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/chat/chatroom.html Click Run, then no afterward. Hey how about you join us for a f***ing game time chat once in a while? The f*** is wrong with you?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) If we were in a pennant race and our 5th starter was a guy with a history of bad 2nd halves and an ERA over 5, and we traded him for a rookie and in the process saved ourselves $10 million+, I don't think I'd mind one bit. Reminds me of how sending Garcia to Philly for Gio and Floyd was structured, except that one was done after a season. Thought I'd just throw this out there again: QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) Jackson over his last 5 starts since his 149 pitch no hitter: 27.1 IP, 19K/15BB, 7.24 ERA, 1.94 WHIP .330/.412/.496/.908

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Guzman was traded to the rangers IMO to make room for morel. Or he was traded because the Nats suck and Guzman is going to be a free agent.

From a Nats beat writer: Adam kennedy at 2B for Nats tonight. Dunn still on lineup sheet in clubhouse less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Hey, it worked!
-
The Nats just traded their starting 2B to the Rangers, I think it's pretty obvious that Gordon is on his way to Washington! Sure KW told him he wouldn't be traded but that hasn't stopped him in the past. (Gio)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) You guys are welcome to feel that way, but I find that a little sad. I don't need angels, but I refuse to root for the success of complete scumbags like that. I just can't do it. AJ is an "asshole" in the sense that he is annoying, plays a little dirty, etc. I can handle that no problem. But that's a long way from beating up your wife in public. Agreed completely, I just can't bring myself to cheer for a man that I know is a piece of s***. I just can't.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Mark Kotsay will NOT be DFA'd. He won't. Which really is pretty god damn stupid, Teahan's presence makes him redundant.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Mutual options usually don't work out. Brian Moehler and Miguel Olivo are the only 2 I can think of off the top of my head.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) I am not sure we know that for a fact yet. There may indeed be money. From Nightengale: #mlb # If deal gets done, the White Sox would send Daniel Hudson and prospect for Jackson, and take on Jackson's entire $8.75 million salary about 4 hours ago via web
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) @BNightengale - #mlb White Sox have Edwin Jackson included in current trade package for Dunn. If Sox get Dunn, then will try to land Astros' Brett Myers God dammit.
-
QUOTE (Soxman72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Does anyone else find it odd that the Sox are not getting any money in return from Arizona? Usually the Sox get money back in a trade and IMO this is a tell that Jackson is going to be move for another player(s). Thoughts? Arizona is in terrible shape fiscally, they're in no position to be kicking in cash considerations beyond 2010.
-
Buehrle, Floyd, Jackson, Linebrink, Peavy, Pierre, Ramirez, Rios, Teahen, Thornton, Viciedo = $76.45M in 2011
-
One more fact: If Jackson does pitch well for the Sox next year and they want to keep him around long term, well, don't hold your breath on that one: Jackson is represented by Scott Boras. I believe he, Jones and Viciedo are our only 3 Boras clients at this point.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Here is what I don't get. If this were really the case... why take the risk of swinging independent trades? Why not do a three party deal all at once? Because Jackson's not going anywhere. Flipping him really makes no sense on many levels.
-
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Is that you Jerry? Are you physically paying $8 million dollars? Baseball may not have a salary cap but teams still work with budgets, having a $54M starting rotation means we'll have to sacrifice in other areas. If we had an unlimited budget I doubt we'd have arguably the worst regular in baseball as our DH right now.
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) No way! No one on SoxTalk overrates our prospects. Hudson was going to easily be the next big thing, obviously. But yes, I DO think we overpaid, but not the blasphemous amount most here do. Christ, he doesn't have to be the next big thing. Just a mid 4 ERA/FIP starter that will make a total of $1.5M over the next 3 years combined, there's incredible value in that.
-
You really f***ed us on this one, Peavy.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) just curious, what were Jacksons numbers vs Minnesota while with Detroit? ERA near 6, not that it means anything.
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) Thats the thing that gets me....people are fuming about losing Hudson for Jackson, who we'd control for another year+, but are all quite ok to give him up for Dunn, a 3 month strikeout machine rental... Who gives a s*** if he strikes out? He's an incredible offensive force. He'd immediately have the second highest wOBA on the team just behind Konerko.
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) Unless I missed something, Chris Young isn't a pitcher! Guess I should have made that part a bit more clear. I'm just saying, we (SoxTalk armchair GMs) get so attached to prospects that may never see the light of day, that we over-value them to the point of comedy. How many big league ready starting pitching prospects have we actually traded over the years? McCarthy? Broadway was garbage from the start. Ely was meh. We haven't exactly developed many.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Sox traded prospects never pan out. Richard and Gio are having pretty damn good years.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) The price tag for next year is high - but... If they can get Jackson to pitch like he is capable of... Then we've got an ace for .50 on a dollar. We're what? The 5th organization to say this about Jackson?
