QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 02:56 AM) Seriously? With a manager that has no experience at all, we'd hire a bench coach that has no major league coaching history? That's about right. I do not get this at all .............Sox should place an ad in the paper that says no experience required!

With the hiring of Ventura, KW has bought himself at least 3 more years of SOS!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) I keep thinking this is a thread on the morning after pill when I browse the forum topics. Now that made my day!

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) Name three. 1. He Lied About Pitching and Defense – It would certainly seem that way. For a guy who wants pitching and defense to be the focus he hasn't quite done his job. He brought 10 time gold glover Andruw Jones to be a DH? Keeping awful Juan Pierre and Carlos Quentin out there to be his everyday outfielders. He brings in Teahan who is average at 3rd base at best and then moves Beckham, who seemed to be getting better, to second. 2. He lied about his kid being drafted and not knowing anything about it. Seems to lack an Organizational Philosophy....It's in Williams court to decide the kind of baseball organization they want to be. But they don't seem to know. Half the time they seem to want to be a Twins Organization where they build up and other times they want to play with the big boys and be buyers every year. But the White Sox won't throw big money at anyone in the draft. They won't even consider it. And then they sell off young pieces for talent that is often suspect. And then of course they waste draft picks on Ken Williams Jr. who wasn't projected to be any good coming out of college but somehow managed a pick in the first 10 rounds. Go figure. 3. Lies about getting someone at trade deadline EVERY year that makes a difference most times he gets no one and when he does make a deal it is for someone who was good 10 years ago.............Griffey, Alomar, ETC...ETC! I did not even bring up the latest Cowley/Guillen/Cooper situation!

I voted no! I love Robin as a person, but as a manager with no experience not so much. I hope I am wrong, but manager's hired like this usually do not work out!

QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) This morning on WGN, Pat Tomasulo asked Kenny about today's Sun Times article portraying Cooper as a clubhouse snitch who was instrumental in getting rid of Ozzie. KW's response-- "...It's... it's just wrong. But I'm not surprised because the gentleman that wrote the article, Joe Cowley, is just simply--if I'm being honest--a liar. And I can prove it from multiple multiple articles that he's written, and I'm looking into it actually to a greater degree because it's gotten to the point to where it's cast a shadow on us and it's unfair to a lot of people." I have got no dog in this hunt, but for KW who has lied so many times in his tenure I have lost count is like saying pot meet kettle!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) Or perhaps not. Manager salaries are not as available as player salaries, we may never know for sure what they are paying him. I am sure with a little research you could find out any manager's salary, nobody keeps a secret anymore. I know OG salary there is one off the list. Thing is I really like Ventura the player and the person and hope he is not being used in a JR/KW chess game.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) Soxfest, I have no idea, but my inclination is that he gets paid middle of the road. We will see very soon.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) He could have said, 'Thanks but no thanks" You act like Ventura needs money, he made over $60mil in his playing career. Dave Martinez needs the money, Ventura doesnt. Ventura could buy Ozzie guillen. Ventura may not need money, I am willing to go out on a limb and say he is one of the 3 lowest paid manager's in the MLB when the money part of the contract comes out Friday. That is why people say he was hired on the cheap.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) No one has answered the most important question: do Ventura's kids have twitter accounts? Yes all 30 of them
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) A few things: I 100% agree with fathom. I understand people being unhappy with hiring a guy with no experience, but (I agree with Jason here) I'm guessing that KW identified the problems that existed in the clubhouse and figured that Robin would be a good fit to fix those issues. A managerial job is about looking at matchups, yes, but being able to manage the clubhouse is a much bigger part of it. That's where he'll have to earn his lunch money. I know I always draw everything back to Iowa State, but it's exactly like when they hired Fred Hoiberg as head coach. That is great and all but, what about KW identifing the problems that existed and still does in the FRONT OFFICE and it is him!
-
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) Wilbur Wood for pitching coach - at least he knew how If not Wood ............I say Rich 280Z Dotson! I am showing my age on that one.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) If you say so. I'll reserve judgment until, you know, he actually starts his job. That is what I am afraid of, I have no ill will against Ventura I respect him. How much of the actual job will he get to do with KW around, I say not much!
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) I want to say I'm shocked with the negativity surrounding this hiring, but then again, this is SoxTalk. On the face of it, I like it. Would I have liked Dave Martinez, sure? But he has just as much managerial experience as Ventura. Like others have said, this isn't football or basketball. He'll be just fine so long as he has a good coaching staff around him. Honestly, the more important hiring will be the hitting and bench coaches. It's too early to tell if this is a good hire or not. He hasn't managed a damn game yet. Ventura is so far over his head....................he could not even answer some basic questions. I can't piss without consulting KW. Puppet show 101. I am not being negative just a realist.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) I loved it during the conference when Kenny mentioned that his scouts and player development has drafted and developed a lot of gems in the farm system. Whose he crapping!!! Why doesn't someone call his ass out when he makes asanine statements like that. We are last in the American League in farm talent. Sox spend so little in player development, you reap what you sow!
-
QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) Man, I regret backing Kenny over Ozzie now. After this debacle of a "process" to hire a new manager, they should have both been gone... I can't figure out how anyone could side with OG going and KW staying, they both should of went. I am almost ashamed to say I am a Sox fan after today's puppet show!
-
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Rumor has it that Warren Newson is going to be the hitting coach. NOOOOOOOOOO DEACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I like what Peter Gammons says below about JR on Ventura hiring and it is 100% correct! pgammo Peter Gammons great humor, best Albert Belle stories...Jerry Reinsdorf's loyalty knows no bounds.
-
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) I like the Sox being honest with this move and admitting the truth that they have no chance to win the division next year. They're future begins by developing their young talent and working through KW's mess of bad deals and bad contracts over the next few years. The b**** of it is KW gets to stay and work through anything, he is a massive failure at his job! Ventura has 1 foot in the grave already with the albatross that is KW!
-
I heard today from a friend in radio DJ is history and will not be back in 2012 and North or Steve Dahl may take his place with Farmio! Take it with a grain of salt, I am just saying what he told me today! Anyone else heard any rumblings on this?
-
Well Sox have now hired the complete left side of the Sox infield in the 90's. I guess Big Frank will be the next manager starting with the right side.
-
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) No experienced manager was coming in here to deal with Kenny and already have most of his decisions made for him. KW should just manage the damn himself and really save Reinsdorf some money. Ventura is and will be a yes man for JR and KW or he would not of been hired this move completely SUCKS!
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) WHERE IS THIS FRANK THOMAS TALK COMING FROM I second that!
-
I hate this move, SOS cheap JR wanting another puppet for KW.

Is this BS or the truth.
