John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread
southsideirish71 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There are a couple of things in play here. There is the velocity. Which as PTAC has stated is building up the muscle, loosening up any of the tightness, running free and easy during delivery. Then there is command and control. Throwing a strike is control, command is where you can throw the strike to a part of the zone. This includes understanding the way your pitches break or move that day. Command is going to take the longest as his shoulder is still getting used to the motion and he is gaining confidence. Also there is the mental fear factor as well. One of the biggest issues for a pitcher that gets hurt is to distinguish discomfort with pain. Pitching and recovering from a turn through the rotation deals with soreness, thats discomfort. When you feel a twinge or sharp stick, thats pain. Sometimes the minute you feel anything negative you want to back off. I think he will be fine in the end. Its just going to take time to regain his form. -
John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 07:14 AM) The instant results expected are hilarious. If Danks doesn't have an ERA under 2.00 in spring training, 7 months after shoulder surgery, he's toast. Obviously we all would like Danks to get a few more outs. But 88-89 at this point seems encouraging as he builds up arm strength. He's obviously going to be rusty and not have his command, and breaking balls don't break much in AZ. Sale has an inflated ERA. I still think there's a chance he's on the team opening day, but if not, assumming no setbacks,I doubt what you see is what he is and will be. I don't know what people are exactly looking for on this. Velocity takes time. Th fact that he is on the cusp of 90 is great. Command and control is more important. We have some depth in the rotation that can allow Danks to come back n the sox timetable. The thin Arizona air takes breaking balls away and makes Joe Borchard and Brian Anderson into allstars. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 09:30 PM) Ramirez has gotten progressively worse offensively to the point where he put up a lower OPS than the much-maligned (and deserved so) Beckham last year. That's pretty amazing. And of course, he is cuban. Got to get rid of them, huh Marty. Maybe we can package him and Viciedo and get a non-Cuban.

QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) Cool, I hope he does. I wish this took precedence over the MLB teams. I would rather that Konerko go through the proper preparation and get ready for the season than to play in a series of meaningless games in a made up tournament. Look at some of the teams ( Italy ), they had to drag people who are what 4 generations removed from actually being in some of these countries.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) Emmanuel Saez has an updated paper out looking at income distributions. The top 1% have captured 121% of income growth since 2009. http://www.scribd.com/doc/125269359/Gettin...her-Edmund-Saez Great another study by Karl. Maybe he can follow it up with another cry for 70 to 80% tax rates on the rich.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Cutler proposed via text and sent his fiancee the ring in the mail. And some people send messages over the big screen at a sporting event and pop the question in front of 40k of their not-so closest friends. Lots of odd ways people pop the question. His fiancee should be the only one that it matters to. -
I should see my return back in about 5 more days. I filed as quickly as I got all of my needed documents. It is already spent on a new bedroom set.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) The IP address may have got him busted but I now think the pictures doesn't tell us much...and it might even lend to his argument with the fact that this Woods guy is a Chicago based 9ers fan like Obama. (Oh how I miss working security) Actually the pictures tell more than you think. According to the metadata, different sources for the photos. Hey maybe a playboy rockstar hero like himself has a series of different cameras and uses different prep methods to generate the jpg. Normally when a normal person takes a picture, it tags metadata of the camera. Oddly only one has this and the rest have all sorts of different characteristics. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 20, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) Definitely. A friend of mine is a teacher and she deals with it all the time. Back in my old-tyme days, if the school sent a letter home or whatever about something i did my parents first reaction was always like "we know you did it". haha. The other side of that is the over reaction. I remember getting a call from the school because my son a few years back in kindergarden was hauled into the principals office because he was playing cowboys and indians with his best friend at recess. They heard the pow pow and he was hauled in. Then they explained to me that if he did it again he would be suspended.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) aren't you and your industry better off if more people are sick more often? EDIT: I'm not saying individual medical professionals such as yourself are bad people, or in cahoots, but the INDUSTRY itself is governed by the same capitalistic principles as our nation. the dollar rules all. I will make sure that I tell my wife, an oncology nurse, that she should be happy that all of her beds are full of people with cancer because its generating revenue. That should go over extremely well after she gets home at 9:30 from her 12 hour shift that is supposed to end at 7pm. You know those dollar signs, I guess they are hooked on that whole chemo scam. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Nope, the world doesn't revolve around NY and NJ, but when Katrina and Joplin victims got money immediately and we're still waiting? That's a little messed up. You don't think so? Or is this what we get for being blue states? So it would be okay if we passed the following bill because the front cover of it read Aid and Sandy. Resolution for Quick and Immediate Aid for the Victims of Superstorm Sandy Article 1. ) 75 million in aid to X. Article 2.) 100 million in aid to Y. Addendum 7083d.) 4 F-35 Jets for overwatch. Because here is some of the pork that was part of the bill... •$2 million to repair damage to the roofs of museums in Washington, D.C., while many in Hurricane Sandy’s path still have no roof over their own heads. •$150 million for fisheries as far away from the storm’s path as Alaska. •$125 million for the Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Watershed Protection program, which helps restore watersheds damaged by wildfires and drought. •$20 million for a nationwide Water Resources Priorities Study. •$15 million for NASA facilities, though NASA itself has called its damage from the hurricane ‘minimal.’ •$50 million in subsidies for tree planting on private properties. •$336 million for taxpayer-supported AMTRAK without any detailed plan for how the money will be spent. •$5.3 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers – more than the Corps’ annual budget – with no statement of priorities about how to spend the money. •$12.9 billion for future disaster mitigation activities and studies, without identifying a single way to pay for it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 08:26 PM) I think Tex should take his beliefs in the debt ceiling to heart. He should go to the most expensive restaurant in the area, have their most expensive meal. When the check comes, kindly inform the waiter that he has passed legislation mandating he cannot pay more than $10 on a meal, and hand him $10. So pretend likes its Obamacare when the bill gets sent from the medical institution.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) I dont know, which is why I am asking. It seems that Lovie has had very little say in personnel, I could be wrong obviously. And to be clear I dont think Emery purposefully set up Lovie, but I also dont think he went out of his way to make sure the Bears had the best chance at winning this year. There is no way you can convince me that McClellin (1st round) and Hardin (3rd Round) were the best choices for the Bears to win this year, especially when the Bears did nothing for the OL. Well if Emery decides to move from a 4-3 to a 3-4 does getting McClellin make more sense. I would of rather had an OL, but that was the thought behind McClellin is he would fit more in a 3-4. In the short term he would be used like the typical 3rd down rusher that Lovie has used before. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) Well the premise of my argument was can anyone name a longer tenured coach than Lovie Smith who had less ability to make personnel decisions. I think that the Emery/Smith situation was an aberration. Generally the GM hires the Coach, so the GM and Coach are on the same page from day 1. In this case you had a GM who was hired with a coach in place and told he cant fire the coach for 1 year. Thus if Emery didnt like Smith, he had every reason to screw Lovie so he could get rid of him. If Lovie makes the playoffs can they fire him? I doubt it. And since Emery seems to have wanted to fire Lovie, I cant help but wonder if last years draft wasnt a set up. Emery drafted guys that werent even healthy, how does that help a team that wants to win a Division Title? -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) I think just about everyone knows Tice will be canned. Lovie has maybe a 40-50% chance of getting fired IMO. If the Bears were run as a football franchise then Lovie would be out of a job. We however have a family run business that empowered the CFO to make football decisions. We hired Emery last year and remember the thoughts, Lovie had the power. I wouldn't be shocked if Emery is forced to keep Lovie. -
