  1. My son used a valle training glove for offseason work. PBP Pro also sells them as well. It was undersized. Also he has a pancake mitt.
  2. Breaking in a mitt is an amazing tradition. I took my time with my son's infield mitts. It took months doing it correctly so I didn't ruin the leather or screw up the shape. He liked a flared style. Shallow pocket as an infielder. Nokona's are great for OF and pitchers. They are relatively easy to break in. They are a bit too flexible for an infield mitt IMHO. Infield mitt shaping has to be done correctly for a pro-style mitt. A2000/A2k from Wilson and Rawlings Heart of the Hide line are what I consider a pro-style mitt. For breaking it, don't do crazy things like steaming it or putting it in the dryer. That screws up the integrity of the leather. Wilson's glovemaster Shigeaki Aso has a ton of videos of him breaking mitts in for the pros. If the grandchild is under 12 he doesn't need a pro-style mitt. They really don't take care of it as an older child would. I would say 12 and older is good to go for a pro-style mitt.
  3. The sox are better than the tigers right now. That's about it.
  4. Those game threads were crazy as well. There was the resident stalker who got so worked up he wanted to fight people. I believe he still reads these forums in his banned sad existence.
  5. I can imagine that a certain Ben Davis fan would be famous.
  6. Chat Crew. That was a great element to soxtalk, was the chat.
  7. It's so bad we have a new specialty called framing which is code for umpires are so dumb we can trick them into something being a strike based on the slight movement of the wrist. Slight of hand belongs in a club with a magician, not in a competitive game.
  8. The human game has an element that cannot clean itself up because its protected by an umpires union. If this was just a matter of the occasional slight that would be fine. But we are seeing new levels of incompetence protected by an entity that cares only for the umpires. Hell Angel Hernandez sued because he felt he was being slighted because he wasn't leading a playoff umpire roster. Thats amazing. We are also at a point where velocity and movement mixed with framing might be too quick for the human eye. So flawed individuals with flawed skills that cannot be questioned are making unilateral decisions. Sounds like a recipe for failure.
  9. MLB players should feast on fastballs. Hitting fastballs well is how you stay up and are successful. Not many players are going to hit breaking pitches successfully.
  10. This is also the Red Sox at home. Any banging or apple watches involved. Tipping his pitches is the only way you can somehow figure out a good changeup from a fastball even if its 91-94.
  11. Some posters "He was just aced by a fastball over the middle of the plate. Unhittable. Do you judge all ABs only by if they hit. What do you know about base.....oh wait. looks up....not Mercedes. Oh nevermind."
  12. Not having ABs at AA is hurting him. I like to see hitting prospects see a good amount of ABs in AA as that is where the talent in the minors really distinguishes itself. AAA is where you will see a more polished breaking pitch. But trying to make a jump from high A to the majors is a big hill to climb.
  13. If Frank Thomas was up in that same situation and didn't have a productive out or drive the runner in, it's a failure. If Abreu was in the same situation its a failure. If Madrigal was up in the same situation it's a failure. I am sorry that I upset the Mercedes fanboy contingent. Keep telling yourself that was a successful AB and he just got aced by an unhittable pitch.
  14. If we put it through the Ron simulator and replace the variable of "Mercedes" with "Abreu" the output seems to change.
  15. Actually, it is. We are not talking about him facing Randy Johnson there. FFS
  16. If we do not sign Lynn to a long term deal then we better go deep this year or win the whole thing.
