The warning signs were there from last year. We were a team that feasted on bad teams and lost to good teams. We upgraded right, added a pitcher and a closer. We lost our LF than basically negates the upgrade in RF.
So here are the concerns.
1.) Any pitcher gets hurt that is costing any money. That is like nails on a chalkboard for JR. That might impact Gio and other long-term pitcher signings.
2.) Young players that we lock up falling off on production.
Once again this looks like the same team that was bad against above 500 teams and feasted on some bottom dwellers. This does not look like a world series contender.
Until we show a competent offense and the lockdown bullpen we are a flawed team that will continue to get beat by good teams. Last year we didn't beat anyone that was over 500 on a regular basis.
He is definitely up there trying not to fail. He is jumping on the first pitch and is just off of it by a bit. The minute he goes down a strike, its over. Maybe getting the first base knock will fix this. But he is way off right now.
I saw Brian Anderson look like a god of hitting every Arizona spring training. Then the minute we go North and the curveball starts doing curveball things he was meat. Spring training is an illusion.
