Giolito Working on a New Pitch..."The Downer"

Yup. A hard curveball you start lower so you don't see the hump. -
Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

Well, glimpse into August if Keuchel or anyone goes on the DL from the pitching staff and you are marching Rodon and Lopez out there every 5 days going OMG why did we resign him. This is bad. Why didn't we spend the money. -

Yeah, I for one want nothing to do with the current NL Cy Young winner. I can't wait to look at August when Carlos Rodon is giving up a long home run to Cruz. Hey we might lose this game, but at least he didn't do something on Twitter. Glad you have your principles. I could give a fuck if he puts on a puppet show on Twitter every Friday if he is the best pitcher available. I want that on my team. These principled people who don't want X person because it hurts their sensibilities are funny. I would rather get the best available player. The same people who hated AJ before he was here loved him here. Dennis Rodman, sure when he was with Detroit you hated him. I want the best player. If he is doing something illegal then no. Dont want him. But because he has X opinion or uses twitter or makes something about himself. Good lord. -

Have the White Sox "spent the money" that Rick Hahn promised?

You could fill a large lake with the water you carry for this organization. I am sold. They did their best. If we dont win the division or any playoff games this year. We can always have this.- 69 replies

The mets pitching staff is going to be outstanding now. Well I hope Cease and Kopech work out this year for moneybags JR. -

Considering this is in the ballpark of what Zach Wheeler got last year. Getting a Cy Young winner at that rate even if the AAV is higher is insane. This is exactly the length of deal that the sox should be all over. Higher AAV and fewer years. -

Thank god we didn't sign Machado or Harper. Imagine trying to fill in the lineup/roster and keep the gold in the swimming pool filled. It would be impossible. -

I am sure his agent can figure out how to say no to future deferred dollars and magical future team options that guarantee him money that will never be earned. -
If JR trades off Giolito, Anderson, and other high-end players because he wants a deeper pool of gold to swim in, count me out as a fan until the man takes his permanent dirt nap.

They surely failed Mark Buerhle with a similar road starting him in the pen as well.

Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min

The Indians still have their pitching intact. We couldn't beat them last year at all. I would say their offense didn't fall off as much as people might think here. We had a chance this offseason to bury the AL Central for the next few years. Due to the owner and his fiscal policies we breathe life into their chances. -
The thing different is the delivery here. So during the H1N1 epidemic, I remember being at the Downers South GYM in a large swath of people waiting in a line for hours to get my inoculation. That was run by Dupage County. Now for whatever reason, we are punting this to the local Drs and the pharmacies. I was expecting a similar event where we would have stadiums and large facilities to get people mass vaccinated.

So far in my research on how people are selfish and parents suck. This is our local school district. Parents who test positive for Covid or their kids test positive. They don't tell the school district of this because it's not their right to know. Then of course they try to get the kids in school asap. The county due to contract tracing, however, calls the school district which foils their plans. When kids have one or more symptoms. Mommy consults either Dr. Mommy's knowledge, old wives' tales of how people get sick, or relatives to determine that they don't have Covid. It's something they ate that is making the kid vomit and have explosive diarrhea. They get mad if their kids are required to get a covid test. Because Dr. Mommy knows her kid and by looking at the kid, they don't have Covid. They would know. They are the parents after all. If Junior has a fever that might get detected by a temp check, we dose the kid with acetaminophen to lower the fever. Kids tell their teacher that they have been sick all weekend and vomiting and headaches. When the parents are called the parents call it a witch hunt.

Not Grindy enough for KenHahn.

And if this goes sideways in 2023 and Gio isn't locked up. Then its a "refresh" to try it again. Because of losses due to no games in 2022. Same guy was part of the 1994 fiasco and cost that team its window, I am not above saying that he doesn't care and will do the same here to guard against future losses.

You replace the manager with the owner's bestie. Not the guy who was part of the original vision of what a manager was. You replace the potted plant in RF with a guy who likes to go on the DL. Sure he is better. But whoops he dove and he is hurt, whoops he slid into 2nd trying to stretch a single and he is hurt, whoops he crashed into the wall and he is hurt. He was healthy for 2019. Before that, some 60 day DL trips and he even got hurt last year. I hope he stays healthy but I don't know if I would be ready to bet the farm on it. You get a third playoff starter that will be here for one year and one year only. And you get your closer. So adding a player in RF who might be injured, a geriatric manager, and a one year pitcher and a closer for a long time. Sounds like a short term run to me.

Then maybe he should muzzle his GM who announced we are ready to compete for championships.
-
He could be, he might be. But for a team with playoff and championship possibilities do you gamble with 2 spots in your rotation.
-
They are ready to compete. The rebuild is over. You now put the best team on the field to win for the next 3-5 years. If both Kopech and Cease take that next step, great god bless. If they don't we don't have the bullets to overcome that in-house. Kopech is coming back from TJ and Cease wasn't exactly the picture of consistency. If you want to know how far down the rabbit hole this goes, at what point in that critical playoff game was Cease used? They need to be there for the long run but to count on them this year for inning after inning is a bit presumptuous.
