Passan: Springer to White Sox not happening
southsideirish71 replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is the most frustrating thing about this. We were sold that with all of the savings over the years that they would be ready to go top dollar to push this over the top. In the end Jerry is still Jerry. -
God listening to Mitch after a game is horrible. Its always about the other team making a play. Well they made a play because for the umpteenth time you didn't protect the football. Stop acting like this is just an amazing play by the defense. This is a mediocre QB on his best day. Great pick Pace. Both of you plus Nagy should be unemployed after this season. Good lord.
-
The offense and nagy suck. But both can be true. The bears offense can suck and the defense can be mediocre as well. For years we have watched the defense bail out the offense. Now that they are not an elite defense we are now just going to watch losses just pile up.
-
Hi I am Coach Pagano. I have inherited a defense that was one of the best in the league. Put my spin on something that a child could of managed and turned it into dogshit. Now people have figured out how to scheme against me and I have no idea what to do. So we will just keep doing what we have been doing and hope for the best.

Official: McCann is a Met, $40/4 years
southsideirish71 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They signed him as a FA after he played with the Astros. They obviously got over it. Maybe you should too. -
The big difference is that Hahn and company went out and pre-emptively locked up a good amount of the young talent at pretty damn affordable rates. We have the crux of our core in it for the long term of the competitive window. We are at a point to add to tip us over the top. Not to build the thing. Our guys so far have hit at a good rate. Every team has busts but so far, knock on wood, these guys look the part.

Len Kasper is new White Sox radio play by play announcer
southsideirish71 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a great hire. Both the radio and the tv have an amazing and talented crew. Now when Stoney does his breaks during the season Len can come up and spell him. No negative to this at all. -
Agreed. And Andrew could always platoon as well to get his feet wet. I would love it if Andrew came up and just hit major league pitching right away. But all we have to do is to look at Robert to see that the process is adjustment and readjustment. This is too important of a time to worry about blocking people. if he is as good as we hope, he will force the lineup changes.
-
Thats why its laughable that anyone thinks that our pitching staff even if every one of the young pitchers hit are ready to go toe-to-toe with the Dodgers or the elites of the AL in a playoff series. If they go all in and get Snell or Bauer sure. But the Quintanas and other associated 3rd tier guys are not going to do it. They need to match up with multiple top guys. I would say that our current #2 is not a true playoff #2 right now.
-
Tell him to let the owner know this is the strategy.
-
Whats the advantage of not bringing him up.
-
Imagine if they got the bright idea that Schwarber could play RF.
-
Well that is a limited group of guys. Pederson is probably the only thing that is out in the FA market that fits that bill.
-
We are now in our competitive championship window. This is the time to push forward and to attempt to win championships in a sustained approach. Maybe Katz can fix Cease/Reylo, Maybe Kopech comes out strong and is everything we want, maybe Dunning is everything he can be. In the end you go out and get one more stud pitcher. You still have 2 spots in the rotation to fill then. You use the overage for bullpen/trade chits.
-
Snell would qualify as a top flight pitcher. Joc or JBJ are a better option than Mazara. Outside of a black hole in RF. Thats all that matters. I like Springer but I am more worried about pitching than anything. Richards would be depth. Then let the rest fight for the prize and work on building up Kopech.
-
I dont want my 3rd starter in the playoffs being those guys. This is the crux of the issue. We have to play matchup games. We need high end pitching to get past the different rounds of the playoffs. We cant count on Cease/Reylo/Kopech yet. So right now we are a starter short to compete against the elite of the AL.
-
To compete for a championship they need to add high end guys to put them over the top. Just getting bodies in here that are better than Mazara is not good enough. Just getting rando pitchers to take a spot in the rotation is not good enough.
-
This makes the hire even worse if thats possible. I could stomach it if they pushed all of the chips in and spent like they have promised.
-
But in the end, Springer and Bauer will get paid. Someone will sign them. It just wont be us. Just like someone signed Machado and Harper.
-
Well JR's pursuit of 2nd place is ready to go. I cant wait for more dumpster diving hoping for lightning in a bottle. So much for putting the pedal to the floor to go for it during the competitive years.

White Sox coaching staff announced (List in first post)
southsideirish71 replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
TLR reached out to Duncan before he accepted the job. Sure after Duncan said I am not un-retiring Hahn was given the opportunity to hire a guy. I doubt if any of the same "insiders" would pontificate that TLR was going to get overruled if TLR wanted to hire Duncan if he was available by Hahn and his pick. TLR didn't have a horse in the race is what it really what it was. -

I guess common sense is insider knowledge to you. The Earth is round and we orbit the sun next up in the news. -

Thats fine. I misconstrued what he was actually hired for. -

This is an organization who drafted Carrie Schueler before. Their limits on unqualified nepotism has no boundaries. So maybe he is more than qualified. Then again, maybe his last name being Duncan had more to do with it than anything.
