  1. TLR reached out to Duncan before he accepted the job. Sure after Duncan said I am not un-retiring Hahn was given the opportunity to hire a guy. I doubt if any of the same "insiders" would pontificate that TLR was going to get overruled if TLR wanted to hire Duncan if he was available by Hahn and his pick. TLR didn't have a horse in the race is what it really what it was.
  2. I guess common sense is insider knowledge to you. The Earth is round and we orbit the sun next up in the news.
  3. This is an organization who drafted Carrie Schueler before. Their limits on unqualified nepotism has no boundaries. So maybe he is more than qualified. Then again, maybe his last name being Duncan had more to do with it than anything.
  4. Lets see how the Reds approach their qualifications for MLB analytics coordinator. I dont think Shelley gets an interview if he applies for their job. https://g.co/kgs/A2uNNT Experience, Education and Licensure: • Bachelors and/or Master’s degree with an emphasis in in computational field, such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Quantitative Social Sciences or Analytics strongly preferred. • Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading a team of Data Scientists, Quantitative Analysts and Researchers. • Experience within a Major League or other professional sports front office or related work strongly preferred. Knowledge. Skills and Abilities: • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize work, create project plans, roadmaps and drive projects to completion. • Ability to lead and mentor small teams to deliver high-quality results with high levels of customer service. • Strong understanding of typical baseball data structures, plus knowledge of current baseball research and traditional baseball statistics and strategy. • Working familiarity with advanced mathematical and statistical concepts, including experience implementing statistical models, simulations, derivations, and graphical representations into software applications. • Experience with statistical software, programming languages and/or machine learning is strongly preferred. • Experience manipulating complex database structures using SQL Server tools. • Experience with R, Python, and/or other languages a plus. • Ability to communicate effectively with all aspects of Baseball Operations, Scouting and Player Development staffs, and understand their job functions and subsequent analytics needs.
  5. If Duncan said yes, he would of been TLR's pitching coach. Its cute that you think that Hahn has a say here. The only reason Katz is here is due to Duncan saying nope.
  6. Does it matter. This unfortunately still has a say.
  7. Much like the White Sox. Change can only occur when ownership and their family has zero say in football decisions. The family accountant needs to keep out of it as well. Also really good defenses don't let offenses March down the field unchecked like this.
  8. Mitch doing Mitch things. Yet the moron who traded up for this future Canadian league QB is still employed.
  9. #1 Okay that is a point of order. #2 Praytell, why? My guess is #1 is the most important + an opportunity to win.
  10. Why is he allergic to money? If we give the biggest offer he is here.
  11. If he is the RF target and we get say Bauer. Sure I am all in.
  12. Its a simple thing. Spend the fucking money. Unless JR thinks that Osiris is going to allow him to take his wealth into the afterlife spend the fucking money. I dont want to hear how X person is too much money or my god how can they afford it. Spend the money. There is zero reason that this is not the place whomever you want can land. No more tricks, no more deferred deals that are less but in your eyes are more. Just put cash up and get your man. Get Springer and get Bauer. Use the plethora of golden arms as either bullpen pieces this year or trade chits for other things. Its time to compete.
  13. Outside of the fact that Joc is left handed. What else does he do that's good. I look at his stats and don't see anything that says this is a good thing.
  14. The game has changed as well. Bullpens impact the game more these days. Most starters are not going deep into games.
  15. You use him in the pen this year. Getting him acclimated to the majors. Use him as a single inning or multiple inning weapon. Next year if he does well and his arm holds up then you start to stretch him out. The magic of this kid is coming in and throwing 100-102 mph out of the pen. The starter version of this probably comes in and takes velocity off. Does he have the same effect? Will he need more pitches to get through a lineup a few times. These guys are all ticking time bombs with their arms. I say use him at the MLB level and get the best bang for the buck there.
  16. These guys don't know that the white sox exist. Of course some moron from Boston thinks that the Red Sox are the most wonderful destination for all people. The below drivel sounds like it came from one of their fan sites. Cora can coach him up on how to deal with the sign stealing. Wasnt that the problem in the first place there. McTaggart: My one contention with Springer going to the Red Sox and being reunited with Cora is that it swings wide open the sign-stealing scandal questions he could largely escape by signing elsewhere. Browne: Good point on the sign-stealing stuff, but I think Cora can coach him up on that. Cora hit a home run at his press conference. I think that stuff will go away after a bit. Springer also seems very mentally tough. He might even thrive on getting booed in away parks. Footer: In most cases, the “playing close to home” factor is a little overblown, but I think Springer may be the exception. He’s from the area and has said he likes Fenway. Family is a big thing for him. From what you know about him, you think the "home" element could carry some weight?
  17. If our FA splash is Quintana and Pederson then we have failed. Pederson last year is basically our DH who can play the field. Might as well buy him a parrot.
  18. You would be better off drinking a nice lukewarm glass of hot dog water than to waste time trying to figure this out.
  19. Everyone was done with Gio as well. Lets see if this guy can do something with him. Reylos pitching style completely changed from the time he was with the Nats to our version of him. Lets De-Cooper him a bit and see if he is still poop. If he still sucks after working with Katz then sure jettison him to the 4th ring of hell.
  20. Great hire. He needs to work with Cease and Reylo stat.
  21. I believe JR has been using Bob for years to get stuff out. I have a singular opinion that JR leaked the Manny stuff on purpose hoping that someone else would win that large contract. Oh we put up a valiant fight but someone else just outbid us. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I think this is how JR uses Bob. My other thought is. They dont care about the coaches. Its the TLR show. They dont need to hand over anything to future coaches. Anyone would be thrilled to be on this team. So it will happen when it happens is the TLR view.
  22. The one thing this validates. Bob Nightingales source is JR. JR uses him for his own purposes.
