  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Last week was the St. Patrick's Day parade in Mt. Greenwood. It's one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. Children drink alcohol in front of adults and police officers. Thousands of people fill a neighborhood that isn't made for thousands of people, and then they go into random yards and piss all over their trees, bushes, side of the wall and all those things. Wonder how many people will be alcoholics when they grow up in part because they were taught that drinking heavily on St. Patty's Day when you're, say, fourteen years old is okay, which is something I particularly witnessed: a girl that age chugging shots while a policeman cheered her on. By all means, though. Celebrate your day, if this is something you're into. I have been going to the Southside Irish Parade for a long time. I was raised on a 107th street. I have seen some high school kids, some college kids and some adults imbibe and some get stupid, but I haven't seen children getting drunk or this Sodom and Gomorrah that you speak of. Everyone doesn't get pissed on the sidewalks. Do some people get out of hand, sure just like any event. There are neighborhood parties, and its a fun event. I doubt if there is a correlation in alcoholism and St. Patrick's day. And to be really honest in America its a different celebration than it is in Ireland, where its mainly a religious holiday. Now of course Dublin and a couple of other cities have figured out that there is some money to be made and have started to commercialize it a bit.
  2. Have a safe and fun St. Patrick's Day. Have a pint and enjoy yourselves and be safe. Sláinte is táinte! "Health and Wealth" to you!!!!
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) Agreed, that's a lot more likely. Perez serves no purpose on the Sox roster, and if he is there instead of Terrero or Anderson, that goes against not only logic, but what KW and Oz have both been saying (that they need a real backup CF). Keep telling yourself that Perez serves no purpose when Santana, CC, Cliff Lee, Rodgers, and the rest of the lefties are shutting down Thome killing our attack. To me Perez needs to be on this club, or we will have another aenmic attack against lefties and we will wind up short again. We havent had a real good right handed stick off the bench to counter the lefties in a while.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) I like to be optimistic about going into the season, and I have watched enough spring games to have good feelings about alot of guys. But Jenks has shown NOTHING to make me think he will be a solid pitcher this season. I think he should be, just based on his last season and a 1/3, but I guess it's nice having something to look at in ST and be encouraged. Real nice bunt by Josh. I remember bham talking about how in the minors Jenks would start out at 95-96 and then by say June he was hitting triple didgets. However with the weightlifting crap you can seriously change the way your body flexes and if you cant throw free and easy you have a hard time getting velocity. If Bobby is in the upper 90s he will be fine, if he is mid and below he wont be the closer long. He doesnt have the control to pitch effectively in the mid 90s and below.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) Bobby has been awful this spring so far. I know last time out he might have been working on something, but it would be nice to see SOMETHING encouraging. In the next two weeks he needs to start working on flamethrowing again. He doesnt have the control to work 93-94. When you throw 97-99 with a hook its hard to stay back on it.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) he needs his fastball back in the high 90's he needs to start throwing more and in the offseason work on flexibility. I thought I heard him talkin about lifting weights again. What f***ing pitcher lifts weights. Run yes, throw yes, pump iron no.
  7. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) What a horrendous inning Talk about kicking yourself in the balls. You walk 2 and give up a hit, recording no outs. Just dumb. Throw the freakin ball and make them earn their way on.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) Not a good inning thus far for Jenks. Bases loaded, 0 outs. He needs to start throwing strikes.
  9. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Cubs are number 1! WOOOOOOOOO!!
  10. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Just getting back. Update on the score anyone? Grinder Nation 6 - Homeless mascot who had his teeth fixed nation 3
  11. Roberto Novoa is spanish for Kyle Farnsworth.
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) If his name were Boonito Lopez I guarantee he'd be going to Chicago. This sounds similiar to Rossindo Gloadriguez that used to be on our team.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) from NSBB.com referring to Brooks Boyer Dont look down at him. He is motivated. When a kid like that posts something about socio-economic status its pretty deep. When he is cutting my grass this summer trying to make something of himself I will make sure to throw in the extra 50 cent tip to make sure that he can escape the poverty that seems to plague sox fans. LOL
  14. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) they need to turn off the mic that is picking up the dude yelling "cubs! Wooo! Cubs! WOOO! ect." That homeless tool was probably down there about 2 months ago prepping his woo crap. When he shows up at the Cell with his goofy cub pajamas and dumb woo call, hopefully someone wont let him in the park.
  15. QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) 173-0! The 11 post season games would be the first in baseball history, forfeited by the opponents by fear, fear of a tri-grinder attack that would smash into walls, dive into the ground, and geek up for everyplay. Owners would demand that their teams forfeit for fear of damage to their stadium.
  16. QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) For who? I'd give them Boone and Pods for Byrnes. Christ. The other grinder. If we had him, Erstad, and Rowand on the same team we might go 162-0
  17. These are things that have been said, and something that I could picture him saying. Ozzie is one of the smartest baseball minds I have been around. This is the bestest team I have been around. Joe Crede is like a young Brooks Robinson. I would take Juan Uribe's in SS over any SS in the game. I would take the Sox starting 9 over anyone in the league. I see travis hafner and he is good, but he is no Rob Macowiak. You keep an eye on Brian Anderson, he will turn some heads with how he plays D.
  18. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) oh i agree 100% but that'll never happen unfortunately We had Pods walking around hitting .241 with a sub .300OBP playing crap O, and crap D and hurting the team. Ozzie didnt replace him and put Mack in LF with the season in check. So if he thinks that Pods is healthy he will have him bunting, running and doing whatever he thinks he can do. To get Mack or Erstad in LF, Pods needs to trip over a landmind that takes out his legs. And if they give him artificial legs and some rehab time, Ozzie will put him back out there.
  19. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) grinder talk again... Sure everyone is a grinder now. Lets see how grinderific this team is PASB when the temp heats up at the Cell, the pressure is on, and everyone tries to hit the parked cars on the Dan Ryan.
  20. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) i think BA will make the club. probably be a utility guy to start season but i could be wrong Ozzie has stated that if Ba doesnt start, he goes to the minors. Then he said how he likes Terrero's hussle. I wonder how that is going to work out.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Call me crazy but I thought it was good that he was willing to bunt in his first game back. Plus I think he should bunt more anyway. Than again I'm far from a so called money ball guy. If he is still fast, sure bunt and get on. But after a few groin injuries, how fast is he going to be. I want to see him go from 1st to 3rd and watch how he runs. That is more of a test of ones speed than bunting and running, or even a stolen base.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) (sigh). Still giving up outs, that Podsednik character. So prancer cant steal, and cant bunt and get on. I cant wait to see a flyball hit his way.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) Cubs outfield defense = not so good If we thought watching Mack in center was maddening, wait till the "weeds on the walls" folks get a load of the craptacular defense that they will be seeing. They may want to trade for Mack to shore up their centerfield D.
  24. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Uh...ok you hear Oz there? "The key is the bottom of the lineup, with Erstad and Pods back in the lineup." Says volumes about BA and Chicago this year. The only person that doesnt know that BA is going down, is BA himself.
