Sox Lockup Vazquez to Contract Ext.
southsideirish71 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) Javier's games in which he got massive run support: April 14th against Toronto. 13-7 loss (L). The Sox score 5 runs in the first three innings but it's not enough. June 3rd against Texas. 8-6 win (W) . Javy gives up 11 hits and 5 earned in 6.1 innings, but the team bails him out by scoring 8. June 25th against Houston. 10-9 loss (ND) . 9 earned runs and 10 hits in 6 innings pitched. Iguchi almost wins it by himself despite that. July 1st against the Cubs. 8-6 win (ND) . Pierzynski's homer bails us out after Gload extends the inning. July 30th at Baltimore. 8-7 loss (ND) . Sox break a 2 all tie to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the 6th inning, Baltimore takes a 5-4 lead in the bottom half because Vaz implodes. So there were 5 games in which he got massive run support, and the team goes 2-3. The team scored less than 2 runs in support of him a grand total of 6 times down the stretch. Like I said, sort of evens out, huh? I think that Martinez's age might have had something to do with the fact he wasn't as dominant until later. Usually this is the case with most pitchers. I'll break down the rest later. So Mr GM. What would you have done. Extend Buerhle for about 5 years at a good clip. Or trot Danks out next year, then Gio and Broadway out in 09. And had the rotation filled with kids and no vets outside of Contreras who is 60. -
Sox Lockup Vazquez to Contract Ext.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) The contract is fair for the market, and it's probably moveable. But for me, it's just chasing bad money. I didn't like trading Young for Vazquez, I didn't like putting McCarthy in the bullpen because of Vazquez, and I don't like being on a longer hook for Vazquez. Maybe he'll do better. Maybe he won't. But Williams's love affair with this guy has effectively cost us the top two prospects in our system (Young and McCarthy). He better do more than pitch 200 innings with a 4.7 ERA. Because he's cost more than the money he's being paid. How does his love afair with Vaz cost us bmac. I understand the Young part, because he was traded for him. But bmac. As much as Javy frustrated me with his 6th inning crap last year, this is an awsome signing. The frustrating thing, is he would completely own a team, and then would unravel. The talent is obviously there, he just needs to either keep his mechanics in check past the 5th inning, or his mind in check as far as focus. If he can learn either of those two he can be a steal. -
QUOTE(U can putitontheboarrrrd...YES @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) I dont think that at all. I was hoping Javi would have been traded before we got to this point regardless of the Freddy & Bmac deals. We we traded Young who was a great prospect for a guy that we were going to dump. Okay that makes sense. We ditched Young, because KW wanted Javy, and not for a year, and not for 2 years, but for a while.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) Yes, lets forget the market price of pitching all together, and just offer players what YOU think they should have. Hmmm great call. You must be a shrewd businessman. There is a not so bright group that thinks that because Vazquez took 3 years and 34 million, that Freddy would of taken the same. Freddy is going to make silly money, probably with the Mets, next year. It will be for 4 to 5 years and for boocoo money.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) I don't think Terrero has any shot of making the 25. Not even a chance. I've read nothing to suggest that we will, and nobody else seems to have anything suggesting that either. If Brian isnt the starting CF they want to get him ABs, and that is called the minors. So who praytell plays CF on the frequent days off that Ozzie gives his players, and if you say Mack just dont. We have no CF when Erstad needs a rest, gets injuried, pulls something.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) That would be such a disaster. Terrero is a bad baseball player....at least Anderson can contribute defensively. If Anderson gets sent down to AAA, it further enhances the claim some of us have made that the Javy trade was the worst one in club history. Why does Ozzie feel the need to put crappy players on the 25 man roster. We had to deal with OMIT for the longest time. For a guy preaching defense, he kept shoving out the worst possible defensive OF at times with Prancer frollicking around in LF, watching the ball bounce off the wall, picking the ball up, dropping it, kicking it, then throwing it like he was born a righty. His partner in crime was a 3rd baseman/corner OF playing CF. Does Ozzie just ask the magic 8 Ball for his lineup/player advise. I know that this guy is better, but Poo on a Stick over there is looking good to me. The biggest issue is that on game 2, he will trot out Terrero in CF because he needs to rest his starters for the offseason. Ozzie subs too much to put crap out there as a backup. Terrero = OMIT

2007 White Sox Catch-All Thread
southsideirish71 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And of course the piss de crapstience. Adam (Chicago): More wins this year? North Side or South Side of Chicago? SportsNation Rob Neyer: (1:09 PM ET ) Good question! Cubs will be better than last year, White Sox probably a tad worse. I sure wish they still played a City Series after the season. -
2007 White Sox Catch-All Thread
southsideirish71 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well its the normal ST tradition. Some asshat Indian fan starts to chomp about how we suck and all of our players are going to regress, and then the king of asshats Neyer who admitted in a chat last year that he doesnt like the sox because of their uniforms agrees. Upon examination Peter 1948 was a long time ago. I hope the indians fall on their ass again. Peter (Cleveland): Rob, upon examining the White Sox it seems to me that they're simply not very good. Their offense is bound to regress (especially Dye and Thome, and to some extent Konerko, Pierzynski, and Crede), and this won't be negated by whatever "improvement" they get in LF and CF. Similarly, their "top 4" pitchers PECOTA ERAs are 4.83, 4.96, 4.50, and 4.77 for B, C, V, and G respectively. This team seems more likely to win under 81 games than over 90... SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:35 PM ET ) Hard to argue with you, Peter. I like Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen, which I think colors my analysis of the club's future. A fundamental question we might ask is, "Which key member of the roster is likely to play *better* in 2007?" And with the possible exceptions of Buehrle and Uribe, it's hard to come up with names. Here are a few other nuggets from that chat. dave, chicago: don't forget the indians have no bullpen. Many of the AL central games come down to the 7th 8th and 9th innings, due to the power in the White Sox, tigers, indians, and twins lineups, and the indians have the worst bullpen out of all them SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:32 PM ET ) Dave, I'll bet you shiny nickel that the Indians do *not* finish the season with the worst bullpen among those four clubs. Yes, they were bad last year, but 1) the year before they were excellent, and c) anyway, they revamped the pen this winter. The rotation is the bigger question mark. And here is the non-whitesox nugget which proves that this year he is in the jock of the injuns. Brian NY: If you can't answer this question Rob, maybe Peter (Cleveland) can...if there is an expected regression from Mauer and Morneau, shouldn't there also be anexpected regression from Sizemore and Hafner? SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:47 PM ET ) Big differences, Brian. Sizemore is still quite young (and not a catcher), and Hafner actually missed last September with an injury. Here's a guarantee (absent serious injury): both Sizemore and Hafner will be viable MVP candidates, and neither Mauer nor Morneau will be. Mauer and Morneau cannot be an MVP candidate. Sure Rob. Go back to Rany and cry about your pathetic royals. -
Happy Birthday to the both of you. Hopefully KW gets flash his power arm in the draft this year, or there will be hell to pay.

When Konerko hits a dong off of Zambozo in the interleague games, he should stand at the plate and scream "NICE PITCH CUPCAKE" and then jog around the bases. When he comes to home plate, he should do a point to the sky, then a double tap for the sosa memory. That should put bozo into such a rage that he immediately pisses his pants.

Here you go Tex and Kap your social security numbers online. This is dumb.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 01:38 AM) I think good is the wrong word. I think when they tell them how to go to school instead of providing it, it feels like a little bit of a "f*** you" from "the man". Not everybody is in a position where they can just go to school. If I understand correctly, soon as you're enrolled in school, they take away the governmental handouts? How's one supposed to feed a family with no job or aid? If I'm right on that...isn't Walmart in turn saying more of, "Well, you can either work your 40 hours/week here and put food on the table or go to school, lose out on your paycheck and starve until you have the education to get a better job." Plus, getting those grants and loans isn't nearly as easy as they make it sound. ...Of course, I might be talking out of my ass here. And I probably am. I am sick and tired of hearing how people who are able cannot work, and will not work because the handouts are better. How about this work and work hard and you can succeed. Preach education and hard work to your children, and they will follow suit. When my family came over we didnt know if we were going to eat after the first week, but my dad worked his ass off, working multiple jobs. He preached the hard work, and he preached education is your primary goal. He never said, well lets get some public aid and maybe the government will take care of us. Why, because he had pride. Pride in him, and pride in the message he gave his children. The poor of society can make a difference and can bring themselves up. It doesnt happen overnight, and it takes a generation or so. And that is the problem. There are a lot of people that would rather blame their situation on outside factors, and would rather wait for their payday. Like some money fairy is going to drop off bags of gold. This is why there is a high dropout rate, and a high crime rate amoungst the poor. A parent has a profound affect on their children and the people they are going to be. If they see laziness, or lack of hope...they will have lack of hope and will be lazy. Its a shame that this child had died on something that could of been fixed easily. However the parents had a responsibility and should of worked on that one. Here is the formula for making it out of being poor. Live within your means. Dont buy expensive cigarettes. Quit, Take the money you would use on that, and put it towards your kids educations. Dont drink, take the money you would use for drinking and put it towards your kids education. Dont eat out, eat at home. Go to second hand stores to get clothes. You dont need expensive shoes. Go and garbage pick for a bike and put it together yourself. These are the things my family did to take themselves out of the situation that they were at. Other people have to realize that their children are their legacy, and they should do whatever it takes to make sure that they are better off than they are.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) I think they gave up trying when NBC started thoroughly dominating Thursday nights. They have their TGIF crap, but its just fluff Friday and Saturday nights used to be a power time for TV. Especially when we were kids. Now outside of a few shows, it crap. Las Vegas is good on Friday night.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Not surprise to see TAPOS Rich Hill make our Minor leaguers (including Anderson) look bad and get taken deep my our major league guys. Maybe those losers northsidebaseball will let go of TAPOS' jock for one second and show Ozzie a little more respect. I took a look at the thread over there, they are insane. They make comments about how it was their scrubs giving it up, however they forget that they basically had their starting lineup in for the most part and we had a B lineup going for the most part. After watching Soriano today, he is what I expect he hits well but man he has no clue on how to break on a fly. He is going to make Rob Mack look like a gold glover out there. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) I'm not that confident about Gonzalez. He still needs to develop control. Pitchers were all over the zone. I don't believe he threw one curveball for a strike. Danks looked much more polished. Although it still worries me his fastball didn't appear to fool major league hitters facing him for the first time. He should find Buerhle and shadow him. Learning the cutter, and the sinker would help Danks alot. The cutter is a great equalizer for a left handed non-power pitcher. You can pound a righty in, and in and in and then snap off that hook and drive them crazy. Every young sox pitcher should learn the two-seam fastball based on our park. -

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) It's been said many times over from players in the club house, that Ozzie takes the pressure off his players. He's not a distraction to the players, he draws attention from the media, that would otherwise be focused on the players. So let there be articles about what Ozzie says about McCarthy and Rich Hill. Who gives a ****? The players find him refreshing! Well at what point does a potential FA say to themselves, well I would like to go to the whitesox, however do I really need to deal with the landslide of crap when I eventually leave. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) Hey guys! Context! http://blogs.dailysouthtown.com/whalen/ Ozzie's comments. McCarthy's are his right before, but I'm excerpting Ozzie's specifically to show how much of a monster he truly is. Tonight there was an interview with John Paxon about the Tyson Chandler move. They asked him a question that painted Tyson in a bad light, and John said "I like Tyson, and I am not going to go there. Some players need a change of scenery to reach their potential. And I am happy for Tyson that he is." Now I am not naive enought to think that the bulls or John has answered this correctly before. But this is how management should answer a question in an interview. You thank the player for being a part of the team, you thank them for their efforts, and then you talk about your team and how its good. You dont go into character assassination. Anyone who is in management in any field has to be able to put aside their emotions and talk in a professional manner. I have had people tell me f*** you to my face at work, and I have acted in a professional manner because that is what you do. I would of liked to have jumped across the table gave them the double bird, and then bashed their face in. However I have a responsibility to be professional, for me, for my employer, and for my family who enjoys the money I bring home. The same should be for any person of management. You dont lower yourself to other people. Someone says something, you just calmly and collectively answer it and state facts. You dont have to get into a yelling match, or character assassination. You dont get into a tit for tat with someone. The more you make of it, the more it gets played in the press. If Guillen shuts up, and says something like "I thank Brandon for what he gave the Chicago Whitesox. I pride myself in having a good clubhouse, and would like to think that everyone was a part of a family. I feel saddened that Brandon felt that way, and hopefully in the future we can talk about it. I wish him well in his endevors as we look to move forward with the 2007 Chicago Whitesox." by tomorrow its old hat and the press has moved onto something else. However now for the next few weeks we are back on Ozzie watch. Just dumb. A man who claims he is as smart as Guillen tells people should be able to have a buffer on how to check things. I heard the interview in its entirety. Guillen spouted off without thinking. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) I am sitting at Sky harbor airport right now. I must say i got to see 2 spring training games during my business trip. I saw the cubs/giants and the Padres/Mariners. From my experience at ST I have to say that Peoria Sports Complex is one of the best places to watch a ball game. 6 dollars to sit in the lawn seats and the complex is really nice with great food. I would def go back to that place. Mesa I thought was garbage. Peoria has a nice facility. Its right near a bunch of shopping and places to go. The grass area is nice. I brought my son down there before he turned one, and had him out on the grass while I caught the game. It was a nice time. Mesa is a pain in butt to deal with. You have a moron wooing, and you have to park on the grass fields. People park like morons there. The Park is okay, but the pitch of the outfield grass area is a bit too steep to setup comfortably. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Ozzie apparently (I didn't hear the interview) said that if McCarthy wasn't with the club last year we would've made the playoffs. There's no excuse for saying that. None at all. Putting it on one guy? That's a f***ing joke, you NEVER do that. And the hypocrisy is hilarious. Ozzie is the guy who continually trotted out Mackowiak in CF. Ozzie is the guy who continually trotted out Podsednik in LF, despite the fact that there were at least FOUR beter starting options. Next year at SoxFest, someone needs to ask him where the Sox would've been had McCarthy not been on the 2005 roster. This is so f***ing ridiculous. I'm embarrassed by his stupid ass comments. Mack in CF and our pitching sucking balls as a group had more to do with us being out of the playoffs, than a mop up guy in the bullpen. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Pass me some of what you're smoking. Danks ain't a #1. Who is Danks agent. Maybe that will cool the entire decade comment from the previous poster. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) Why is that official? Maybe Ozzie meant that BMAC should have befriended some veterans to teach him more about the majors, maybe to give him some guidance. Why automatically does it always have to be so negative. It could have even been a joke between him and Brian. There are assumptions on both sides, and they are probably ALL wrong. His comments were direct. Ozzie made the comment in this reference. He said he only had Brian Anderson as a friend, he made the wrong friend. I have people around town. I know when they are out at the bars. -

Note to our management. Top lip, bottom lip marry them together. I guess the one comment is that he believes Brian and Bmac were out partying is what he says. BTW it is now official that Ozzie doesnt like Brian. Its not just a theory. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Masset has an unearned run charged to him because of Pedro Lopez committing an error. 4-2 Arizona, Top of the 6th. If they win, we'll have lost eight straight to Arizona dating back to last spring training. Well its hard to gage, but Masset had 2 ground outs, and I assume a grounder to Lopez. So that is 3 grounders to the one flyout. Not a bad ratio.
