  1. "What we'd be talking about honestly are numbers and years I'm not comfortable with," Williams said about contract extensions before agreeing to the Garcia trade. How much are you willing to pay Freddy. How about a nice 5 year 75 million dollar deal. Do you think that Wiliams balked at a 3 year 30 million dollar deal? They had a talk with Garcia and he said JACKPOT, and we ditched him. But I agree with you, the draft pick would of been a better long term option.
  2. Williams believes Floyd's hard sinker will be effective at U.S. Cellular Field. Phillies assistant general manager Mike Arbuckle said he wouldn't be surprised. "I think Gavin's going to be a little bit of a late bloomer," Arbuckle said. "I've compared him to Chris Carpenter. I compare him to the [Jon] Garland kid. He was a little slow to come around. When he did, he was a very good major-league pitcher. Gavin certainly has quality pitches, stuff, athleticism to be very good." I have said as long as I have been on this site, there are 2 types of pitchers that the sox should draft unless they want to rebuild the cell. Sinkerballers or guys who can K people.
  3. So what if KW had a chat with Buerhle and Garcia and both of them said, thanks but no thanks I want to make megabucks next year. So getting one year out of the two of them, and then neat sandwich draft picks is so much better than ditching them now and getting something in return that can help us be competitive for the next 4 years. The people that are saying go for it this year without thinking about next year, are the same people who said I dont care if the sox suck for 5 years as long as they win one championship in my lifetime. Well guess what, I was still greedy after the one championship as you are all now.
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) And fathom said it all. That article on our future is scary. Suddenly we've become the Marlins again. All about saving money. My god. After drawing all those millions of fans this year. What has happened in the last 24 hours? We've become a small market team again??? Sad, very sad. Oops this got added to my last post; wanted to make sure it was seen. Take a gander at our payroll and then tell me how we are the f***in marlins again. We traded a pitcher who is about 11 months away from making a s***load of money. Or was it your contention to spend a 4 -5 year 12 - 15 million dollar a year deal on him next year. Good Grief.
  5. QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Ok use those stats. take last years. Again use what you want but he still has not proven himself. Again, I wouldn't mind him being a fifth starter if we would have gotten a bit more in return to fill the other holes we have. I am not argueing Mcarthy, I am argueing the trade. Funny 9-10ths of the people here hate this trade but it seems as if people take exception with my comments. We have a new market where crappy pitchers are getting 10 million dollar 4 year deals. How much will Garcia get on the open market. What again is his incentive to sign a long term deal for less. So basically whomever gets Garcia will get his services for 07, either sign him for megabucks or get a nifty draft pick that is less likely to succeed than Gavin or Bmac or Gio. Everyone here over estimates the value of our players, as I have said before somewhere between what we feel is a good deal, and the guys over at PhillyPhan who are upset that they gave up Gio, is where reality is. Just because someone leaked a made up deal doesnt mean that it was impending. If KW could of got Santana for Garcia or Pelfrey for Garcia or Brad Lidge for Garcia he would of been shipped off yesterday.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) I like Ledezma, Miller isn't going to be ready for a bit, no matter how quickly they want to rush him. Didnt millers arbitration clock start based on the stunt they had to pull, promoting him due to some contract item that Boras put in.
  7. Its over-reaction city here at Soxtalk. Its the first week of December, half the people here had a stroke when we got rid of Gio. and lets take a look at other possible deals before we s*** the bed. The White Sox reportedly weren't willing to part with Brandon McCarthy in talks regarding Rocco Baldelli. Did they really think Tampa Bay would be interested in Freddy Garcia? McCarthy has to be on the table if the White Sox are going to make a major deal with a rebuilding club. I wonder if Tampa would say take a Gavin Floyd/Gio/prospect combo. Relax people. Half the names we had seen as trade matches for Garcia were our bulls*** and conjecture anyways. They gave up this for a one year rental. Garcia is not signed for a few years. He is a one year rental. Keep remembering that.
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) +1 No wonder they didn't go for it. Lackey is their best combination of consistency, experience, and health. I find it odd that the Angels have been offering Santana as trade bait, but teams like TB and (apprently) the Sox seem hesitant to deal for him. Maybe there's something about him that we don't know. Well to be fair, anytime anyone deals with TB there is a big AND when you start talking about prospects. I want CC Well give us Santana AND 2 high stud prospects, and 1 lower prospect.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) I'd prefer Santana out of the 2. Big John Lackey is better than Santana. Out of the 2 I would like Lackey. Now I would take either, however.
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) if we sign bonds, i dont tune in next season. book it. I hate Barry Bonds mind you. But to play devils advocate, what if it meant winning the 07 WS. Not that I think it would for any reason, but what if signing him was the last piece of the puzzle, would you then disavow the sox due to your hatred of a player. I love the Whitesox and might hate a player, but if that player plays the for the whitesox then he is one of us.
  11. WGN Radio had a clip of Ozzie running his mouth about how Brandon is going to AAA, because he doesnt want to pitch out of the pen and he has no right to ask to pitch in the rotation. Ozzie needs to learn how to keep his top lip and his bottom lip together more. Ozzie must be getting twitchy now that KW might trade his relative.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) And, are thare really that many people that are completrely bewildered by proper comdom use? And if so, will thos braniacs be able to master this thing? Those are the same brainiacs that use the combination of ....
  13. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) If this is so why did Mackowiack play a ton of CF last year? BA will one day be better than Rowand, but as of right now he is not. The same reason Timo Perez was a DH, a 1st baseman, and our first option from the bench in 05.
  14. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) Too bad we had to give up Aaron in the first place. Anderson wasn't ready and it cost us dearly. I don't know why we had to trade him instead of "prospects" like the Yankees always used to do in deals. Lesson learned: Don't trade a guy unless you can replace him. You may hate Rowand, but his absence left a huge hole to fill. The large amount of money that they sent back so we could afford Thome, was the reason that Rowand went. Thome is getting paid a lot more than we are paying him I hope you realize. Huge hole, come on now. How is our CF hitting in the low 200s a huge hole, yet our SS can do it and he is considered okay. We lost last year because our pitching sucked, and our offense decided to play Saturday beer league softball in the 2nd half. If one of those was fixed we would of won the division.
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) Well, the one thing about young hitting is it tends to be more consistent than young pitching, and hitting as a whole tends to be more consistent from year to year than pitching. I like having the young pitching because of the price, but as we all saw last year, you never quite know what you are getting for sure from your pitching staff. I think the main consideration here is we know what we would get from Crawford, whereas we can't be certain what we'll get from McCarthy. So after we get more offense, can we get Felix Diaz back so he can pitch out of our rotation. Everyone preaches how pitching won in 2005, then the minute we can get another offensive player we all go ga ga for it. We had Valentin, Carlos Lee, Maggs, Thomas, Konerko and couldnt finish first for the most part in our own division which was piss poor up until recently. Those teams looked like world beaters on paper, then the twins pitched us into the dirt.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I think BMAC will be a good pitcher, I really do. But his stuff makes me nervous sometimes. Rock he is the first prospect that has shown flashes of brilliance in a long time from the pitching prospect level. We need to save some money somewhere on this team so we can spend it in other places. His performance last year against Cleveland, his back to back starts against the Redsox and the Rangers in 05, and his start at home in 05 against the twins where he pitched his ass off against either Santana or Liriano and shut the twinks down. For Bmac he will be as good as his location is on his change. If his change is working then he can dominate. If he cant locate the change then he is meat.
  17. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) lol thats the qoute of the day because its pretty much true. Many White Sox fans have wanted Rowand back since May and we have been talking about getting him back ever since. You have to admit, he may not be the the most talented, or even a better athlete than than Anderson, but he works his ass off and White Sox fans appreciate that. He loves the White Sox and loves White Sox fans. How can you not miss a guy like him?? Getting Rowand back won't neccessarily garuntee us a division title, but it does garuntee us that our defense will be pretty solid out in CF and RF. Getting Rowand back may also help Pods game, Rowand helped Pods defense when he was here and Pods helped Rowands base running. Im all for getting Rowand back. Anderson had more range than Rowand had. Prancers issues with his defense in LF had nothing to do with his lack of Rowand in CF. It had more to do with bringing his crappy bat and baserunning blunders out onto the field with him. Rowand right now hits better than Anderson, and that is about where it ends. Anderson is a better fielder than Rowand. Anderson is faster than Rowand. Anderson has a better arm than Rowand. Hopefully Rowand learned how to hit a slider in his travels, or he will be exposed like he was in the 2nd half of 05.
  18. So did anyone in Philly teach him how to hit a slider yet. Maybe we can get some of that .245 in August, and .235 BA in Sept magic back from the season of dreams.
  19. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) i'd like to see the infomercial of the exhasperated consumer struggling put on his condom with the toaster going off and flour everywhere. Now its just the touch of a button!
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) I think you should write a Letter to the Editor if you're so upset over the treatment of Mr. Ford. So let me get this straight, You post an article claiming that someone that I worked with before is crooked. I post a reply saying I worked there and have first hand knowledge of the workings of the office, a point of view that is unique. You refute it by making blanket statement and then tell me I should write a letter to the editor. I keep forgetting you are so young. I hope you are just as understanding and flippant later in life when someone attacks your ethics and character.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Hard working doesn't make you a good man. Ford may well have been a good friend of yours back in the day but his ethics and his judgement appear to be faulty. And you know what? It doesn't surprise me. People are crooked. I am glad that you made up your mind from a silly article, and not take reference from a person who worked in that office first hand for 7 years. He is not my friend, he was someone that I worked with. In my 7 years of being in that office I saw only hard working, ethical people who worked hard for the citizens of cook county, making a crapload less than your average lawyer. But forget what I said, and just read a slighted article in a newspaper because if it is in print it must be true. Here is the quote from the article. “There is no indication that Judge Ford was aware of this conflict or that he was motivated or biased in his decision,” McBride wrote. Suppose he wasn’t aware. Did Judge Ford, known to some courthouse regulars as “Quick Nick,” read the petition so hastily that no bells rang? Nice cute nickname. Uh actual he is not known as quick nick, probably some Public Defender or defense attorney gave him that cute nickname probably one of the sources of this article. The case loads are high as an ASA, so if you think that he was aware of this and still ruled on this whatever. Uh yes there could be times in the thousands of cases that a trial lawyer goes through that the endless line of defendants that you see, you may not recogize a name and say Eureka, that is Bob from 1991, the case at 10am on a Friday.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) I may be wrong, but I think that episode was a few weeks after the bomb went off. It is impossible to know how you would react in that situation. At that point you might just want to give your kids a fun normal night. Well at least with the kids glowing in the dark, they will be easily seen from the road. Nuclear Weapons promote safety!!!!

I watch the show. The online piece is bad. They could of done so much more with it online, the webumentary piece. Some of the human reactions are not too realistic. I see a mushroom cloud and think there is a nuclear war going on and I dont think I am taking my kid out trick or treating.
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) This article that I posted is a Sequel to the Police Torture Story the Chicago Reader did a long time ago. It's ridiculous. http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/blindjustices/ God, damn, do I hate it when authority figures of any sort abuse their power, and this is just ridiculous. I worked for the SAO during this time. I have worked with these guys, and I can say that the men and women of the SAO are some of the hardest working people you will ever run into. These are people of character, and I learned a lot how to be the professional that I am today. Nick Ford is good hard working lawyer. I dont know how he is as a judge. Do you realize the shear amount of cases that the average SAO ASA goes through during their tenure? Only a few memorable cases or a few repeat offenders make the memory list. How many Walkers are in the Cook County Jail right now, how many are in Prison. Do you think that is a name he might of run into. I doubt knowing Nick that this was some sort of coverup or him being above the law. Defendant PC motions happen all the time. If he was aware of this type of conflict he would of reccused himself. And linking everything to the Burge crap. Do you want to know how the SAO works with the Chicago police. You get an officer that you make talk on to phone to get some info on the police report, they are called in for an interview, and then after that they come in for appearances and for trial cases. That is it. Its not like there is a bond and they hang out. Its not like the TV shows. Judges are a mix. A good attorney doesnt make you a good judge. You have some judges that are pro-defense, and you have some that are pro-prosecution. Its the nature of being human. If you want a robot then invest in it.
  25. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) Really, given how Ozzie apparently feels about McCarthy: and his obvious dislike for Anderson, I wonder if the Sox wouldn't be better off trading them both. I know it's foolish to trade young major league pitching, and trading Anderson now would be selling low. But given who the manager is, and his obvious disdain for both players...maybe the Sox would better off doing it. BA, McCarthy, MacDougal, and Broadway might be enough for the DRays to trade Carl Crawford. Honestly, given KWs history of making big trades, his repeated public stance that McCarthy is untouchable, I wonder if he's just driving up the price. So you want to trade young good pitching, so we can get more hitting. Welcome to the 2004-2000 Whitesox. Maybe we can spend 130 million and have medicore pitching and finish 4th.
