GAME THREAD: White @ Red

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) I can take a player failing because they're not very good. I can't f***ing watch as Pierzynski completely changes his approach from what was succesful in the first half. How is he that f***ing stupid? Although Pods is just as bad right now, I don't get anywhere as angry watching him. Last year the player who did that was named Aaron Rowand, who was hitting well for average and then at San Diego said that he was working on a new power stroke. Then pretty much was useless for most of the 2nd half. Hitting .245 in August and .235 in September. Carlos Lee was a doubles machine the year before. He was dominant raising his average 70 points over a long hitting streak. Then he decided to work over his swing to get more power. We then witnessed Carlos striking out and doing his best corpseball impersonation trying to hit dongs when we needed a single. I still love the doubles that Carlos hit off the wall, that he throught was a dong, then only to get tossed out by a mile at 2nd trying to hustle in after he posed Year after year we have guys with successful approaches, then a "power" element is added to their game and they become worthless in the second half with men on. -

Pretty much Sweeney has this game to hit and prove he can hit, or Guillen will bury his ass on the bench. He will be a defensive replacement or a pinch runner and that is it. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) how come every other team in the majors can find out how to hit this lefty, but he becomes cy young against us? Most major league teams are not pull monkey softball teams like ours. They have a few guys with a noticible dip in their back shoulder, we have the whole team doing this. Watch the twinks, you get 2 strikes on them, they look to go back up the middle and to right. It allows them to put contact on the ball, and not do too much with it. We swing like its 3-1 and no one is on base and K. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) So when is the elusive "Closed door player meeting" going to happen? Kong thinks nothing is wrong. Until they are elminated they are still in it. -

We are getting 1 hit by a pile of dung that has never had a winning season in the minors. Maybe we should of called up the entire Knights team tonight, they at least might give us a chance offensively. -

Who is going to provide the solo dong tonight. My money is on Taz, he will corkscrew himself into the ground King for the rest of the night. But one profundo. Hrniak fixed Uribe last year, then he came to ST and was back to being bad. Then old Greg said that the leg kick really didnt work, msut of been an illusion, and he was going to work on a new spread stance. Well after a year of the spread stance, I want Hrniak back for a weekend refresher. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Listening to the radio, you could predict the PK DP coming a mile away. It's funny, but I was always taught that if you're on 3rd base, you should be running home on contact on any ball hit on the infield. All he needed to do, was to hit that ball for a single up the middle or to right field. But its just another case of the pull monkey being a pull monkey. He couldnt resist the breaking pitch on the outside corner. It screamed hit me hard, put me over the wall, circle the bases. Its not really his fault. -

I figure that next year they will just have a dramatic shift on the left side, and Paulie will hit 215 and will become the Rob Deer of the 21st century he is trying to be by pulling every single pitch. -

QUOTE(alexgtp @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Man is it me or is Pauly sucking big time in the 5 spot? He has become the DP king! Yeah the 2 he has had there lately are so much worse than the 18 he has had this year in the 4th spot. It must be the positioning in the lineup that causes the biggest pull monkey in baseball to pull every single outside pitch. /sarcasm -

In honor of the Croc Hunter..... Crikey, I see the midwest version of pullus ballus up to bat with the bases loaded. We can surely catch him as he is the slowest creature in the forest. You can keep him off his game by throwing him low and away, for he will GIDP. -

So another crappy pitcher with a left hand, and a breaking pitch is dominating our lineup huh. I thought Greg said everything was okay, because he had video on this kid. -
QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) The MacDogual trade looks even better right now. Just out of curiosity, even though Jenks has only 3 BS, would anyone prefer seeing Mac in the closer's role? Up until the fatman gets healthy, then its back to Bobby in the 9th. Jenks has 39 saves this year, and only 3 blown. Thats as good of production at the end of a ballgame as you get from the sox over the years.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) How the f*** does a team get their top 4 hitters back in 2 days? Just hit the f***ing ball, throw the ball well, and catch the ball. And play like the season is on the line. Run out ground outs, and break up double plays. I could care less about the Boston offense, with a medicore 6+ era pitcher on the mound who was gifted with the southpaw hand, its more of if we hear this tonight from the Hawkeroo. Hawk "Well Young Mr Gabbard is pitching his tail off tonight. I dont care what his ERA says, this kid has some talent. I was talking to some scouts before the game, and they didnt clue me into how sharp this kid is. " DJ "Well when facing a lefty like this, you want to hit the ball up the middle or the other way. Which is harder than it looks, as they want to tease you with breaking stuff away to entice you to hit it on the ground and get the out. Gabbard has induced 3 double plays this evening, and has been lucky to get out of a few jams. But when you have a good defense behind you, you can risk lettting a good hitting team put it on the ground. Paulie needs to come through here, as the whitesox offense is in a bit of a funk right now. Minnesota won today on a 35-0 score as Santana strikes out a career high 18 Devil Rays at home." Hawk "Well the Sox are threatening here, oh for the long one here. Konerko has to cinch it up, and hunker down here. Paulie fouls off the 1-2 pitch. Wow he just missed a cookie right there. Bow your neck Paulie, and here is the pitch, Dagdabit, and the kid will get out of walking the bases loaded as it goes 6-4-3 and you can rack em up. The whitesox have blown a golden opportunity here to score in here in the 6th inning. And its 2-0 badguys. " -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Last I heard he was around 85 mph with his fastball. I am surprised we are not starting him. Sounds like a candidate for the rotation with that kind of gas.

I figured he would of died by a snake bite. I watched one special when he was walking around in Africa in the middle of the night and stumbled across some little wild colored snake on the edge of the road. He starts to f*** with it, and it turns and bites him. They then show he and his crew frantically trying to figure out what type of snake just bit him, how poisonous it is, and is there anti-venom for it. After a short bit, they find him and then Steve gives a thumbs up to the camera, "This little guy isnt that poisonous after all, which is good because we are at least 5 hours from anything here on foot". Sad for his family. RIP Steve

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) Alright, you made my point for me. Thanks for saving me the time. I hope Sweeney gets a hit tonight, or he will be labeled a bust at 21. Sweeney is my favorite prospect. He probably has the best looking swing that I have seen on a prospect. A prototypical line drive swing. I hope the kid gets off to a quick start, and maybe we can have Pods watch a few games more from the bench.

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Wow a Felix Diaz team photo.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) I'm not ripping Bobby at all, I'm just trying to make a point. Greg thinks that Thornton is a bad reliever because he gave up a run in a game he saw. MMac is in the same boat. I tried stats and that didnt sink in, Thornton, MMac and Jenks have been great all year long. Our back end of the bullpen is pretty damn good. Guys like this are very hard to hit when they are on, but they have 2 weaknesses, 1 is being wild. Hard throwers at the end of the pen can get wild at times, the other thing is the propensity of giving up the dong. If you make solid contact on a 97 mph fastball it goes a very very long way. I feel good with the back end of our pen.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Seems like you're giving Bobby a free pass from yesterday then. If he doesn't blow the save then Bmac doesn't even pitch. Dude let it go. Yesterday he was lamenting that we didnt pick up a guy like Aaron Guiel to be a better platoon than Mack in center. Couple of problems with that, 1.) Guiel is not a CF, and would make Mack seem like a gold glover in CF. 2.) He is a 33 year old career .240ish hitter who was released by the Royals 3.) He is hitting what .215 or so for the Yanks this season. At least if you are going to platoon someone, make sure that they are hitting better than the defensive guy that supposedly cant hit. I am about as big of a Bobby fan as there is. Bobby was given a 1 run lead and blew it, and was very lucky not to have been tagged with the loss there. He had nothing and hopefully brings his A game next time.

On the crappy lefty we are going to face tonight. We actually got video of him," hitting coach Greg Walker said. "I watched him the other day. There's a lot to be said for that." Well Grego you have video of Julian. How about this, stop with the lift and pull crap and start having your hitters use the entire field and maybe we can rock this joker. You are telling me that we cant scrounge up video of minor league pitchers when we face them. How about this Greg, have someone in the Whitesox organization purchase a milb.com gamecast account and then capture the video. A few bucks, and a freeware capture engine and you can analyze some more pitchers. Worthless, good for nothing....... -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) Sorry, but as painful as the second half of this season has been, Ozzie still has some slack left on my rope. The phrase "2005 World Series Champions" still brings a smile to my face, and I'm still grateful. I'll be disappointed if this team doesn't reach the postseason, but that's all I'll be - disappointed. Not angry, not hateful, not lining up for Soxfest to rip anyone a new a**hole. Everyone on this site has been crying for The McSavior to start, but the last three times he's been put in a pressure situation, he's gacked. Is that Ozzie's fault? Or is it McCarthy's? Point is, the players aren't producing this year. They did last year. THAT is the difference. Ozzie had Timo last year, he has Rob this year. He's the same guy, the same manager. The results are different so far, and that's the difference between a great manager and a crappy one. The difference between this year and last year is not the manager. But the pitching staff. Our manager wasnt good last year. He made bad decisions all year long, and was lucky to have the best pitching in baseball. I am happy that we won the WS last year, but it wasnt because of Guillen or because of some tactician move that he made. It was due to the best damn pitching in all of baseball, and a offense who was bad for most of the year suddenly getitng hot as a group.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) How can you not like this guy? Great comments in Sun Times by Oz. Its easy. 25%, thats about the amount that our starting 9 have played together as a unit. Mack in center more than 1 time in a week. The player says he doesnt feel good playing there, he feels he doesnt give the team a good fit in CF. The manager then states I am playing him because change is failure. His handling of our pitching staff Cute quotes in the paper might move you, I am moved by a manager who makes the correct baseball decisions and gets wins.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) DA...what's your opinion on the Jenks and his lack of consistently velocity this season? He's only been in the real high 90s about 1/5 of the games he's been in. Last year, he was in the very high 90s a lot more often? Do you think it is due to just wear and tear on his arm over the year, or might his conditioning be preventing consistent performances? He's had a very good season this year, but I hope he can hold up the rest of the way. He went from having his best stuff of the season (Sat night) to his worst tonight. I would say its lack of consistancy in getting work. With the O and how our pitching has been. We have used him wierd this year. 3 inning outings. coming out every game for a week, then not at all for a while. I think he needs a better conditioning program for the offseason so he comes to pitch next ST. Also they need to get him more innings in ST as he says it takes him longer to build up arm strength.
