  1. Not to sound like Hawk, but there are two different zones. The 2nd pitch to Thome almost hit posadas shoelasses and was called. And then Javy hits the corner and blue sticks his nose at it.
  2. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) No, no he wasn't. He took a bad line when running it down, but he wasn't on the warning track, nor was he playing too deep. He pulled up at the end, and then took his eyes off the ball, then the ball bounced by him.
  3. Take him out of the game. That was one of the most pathetic attempts at a fly ball. Mr. Speed pulls up, and then lets the ball go past him. Double, it should of been an out.
  4. Its pouring in Downers Grove right now. Well I am enjoying a nice Nancy's stuffed Pizza, and waiting for the game to start.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Why don't we wait until the season is over to discuss if one year was more disappointing than the other? Maybe it's just me, but my disappointment level is much less this season than it would have been if we didn't win the World Series last year. I'm not saying I'm giving the team a grace period though. I just think it's interesting how everyone is saying how disappointing this team is after one of our better "losses" in a long time. I don't believe in moral victories, but I do believe in momentum. "Momentum is tomorrows starting pitcher" is a quote I have seen used in baseball. Our offense is good, sometimes they get to jacked up and try to do too much. But that I think is due to our pitching. We need our pitching to collectively get their heads out of their rear ends. We see improvement from a starter for a start or 2 then back into crap city. We need our starters to be decent, they dont have to be superstars to win with our O. If we have our starters go 7 and only give up 4 we would be fine. But they have been giving up 6 to 9 in 7 and that just puts our O into a pickle. Ron Villone was quoted as he thought AJ was trying to go for the fences with the bases loaded. AJ is a line drive hitter, and when he goes for the fences he really gets out of his comfort zone. Why was he going for the fences, because our pitching gave up 7 runs and we needed a granny to get within a run. If we are down by a run or 2 AJ isnt probably trying to hit a granny.
  6. This is the reason why we failed with bases loaded and no outs last night. When the opposing pitcher sees you trying to go for the fence, you are focked. This is probably what the twinks were seeing when Carlos Lee did the same thing in 2004 with the bases loaded when he K'd a few times.
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) The recently signed Mora to an extension at third, so I don't know how interested they'd be in Fields (unless they plan on moving him elsewhere), and if they didn't accept Roy Oswalt for Tejada, I doubt they'd want Garcia Thats because their owners is the worst in the MLB. Who would turn down Roy Oswalt.
  8. KW tries to trade stuff as far away from hurting him as possible. So either he will get traded to the NL, or some crappy AL team that doesnt have a prayer, and we only face a few times a year.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) Very interesting article from Joe Cowley; Freddy needs to go to the NL. It would give new life to his career. A team like the mets or the Padres should be interested in Freddy.
  10. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) so what season has been more frustrating, this one or 2004? This one by far. In 04 we had the injuries, we had the 5th starter by committee. We had that horrible stretch in August and Joe Borchard was our RF. I didnt expect to win then. I thought this year was going to be a cakewalk into the playoffs. I knew our O would be good, but I thought our pitching would show up. I never estimated how many bad moves Ozzie would make this year.
  11. Since the allstar break... Pods .215BA .273OBP He is 3 for 4 in SB. 16ks vs 5bb Ozuna is hitting .080, with a .115 OBP, He is 0 for 1 in SB, he has 1bb and 10ks That is really really bad for our leadoff crew. Too bad KW didnt pick up Brady Clark. He jacked one off of Zambrano tonight. That .380OBP would be nice in front of the thumpers we have. And unlike our tandem of antiproduction, he has hit .327 with a .379OBP since the allstar break. AVG .284 | HR 2 | RBI 22 | OBP .380 | SLG .340
  12. Here is the 2004 Starting rotation and their ERAs MB 3.89 ERA JG 4.89 ERA FG 4.46 JC 5.30/EL 4.86 Showenweis 5.59 ERA Kind of looks similiar to what we have now. One guy below 4. And then the rest.
  13. Garland on the PFB show was talking about the humidity and the weather helping the ball carry. One question, isnt he a sinkerball pitcher. Brandon Webb can come into a game and keep the ball in the park, because he uses his turbo sinker. When you have a sinker use it. Garland gets hurt more on leaving his changeup up than any other pitch. We are in Felix Diaz/Danny Wright/Jason Grilli/Arnie Munoz territory right now with our starting pitching. Our team is now ranked 9th in the AL in pitching. We are just ahead of Cleveland and Toronto.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Why not give Gload a chance to play LF? There's no chance he can be worse than Pods or Ozuna out there. Those guys can only catch fly balls hit directly at them anyways. Even Pods today said his arm is awful. However, Ozzie said he's the best we have out there, so he'll keep playing. Because Ozzie cannot have his Marlin offense without his Pierre type up on top. He needs his little fast guy leading off. Thats why its been Ozuna or Pods only. Last year we used Timo who isnt fast uptop when Pods went down, yet mackowiak cant crack the lineup unless its to play a position he cant play.
  15. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) Thats what I don't get. We list McCarthy as untouchable, and there is no way we trade him, but we use him out of position all year, when he could be easily hold his own in the rotation. It just makes zero sense. We dont use him in the rotation because our manager thinks he is horrible.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) I would love to see Ozzie call Garcia or Vazquez horrible. If KW wants to get bmac in the rotation he needs to trade one of our starters. If we mosey into next year with what we have, bmac will be in the bullpen again for the year. Another year towards arbitration down the toliet.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) Our starting pitching sucks, as does our LF and CF position. If we can get some improvements from those positions, we're going to play better baseball. Well I was hoping to see bmac in the rotation this year, however according to Ozzie bmac was terrible last year. I guess having a 1.59 ERA down the stretch is horrible and our current rag tag group of starters are a much better option than the super stud that we dont want to trade unless we get a kings ransom.
  18. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) I don't know what to make of this loss, great effort late, but the Garland was absolutely disgusting. Feel free to discuss. Well our manager thought he was pitching good enough to bring out in the 7th for whatever reason.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Well, one thing is sure for me. No matter how obvious it is the Sox need a different LF, we aren't going to see anyone new until Sept. call-ups or 2007. I also don't understand bringing Garland back for a batter in the 7th. That cost another run. Evidently Ozzie has a rule that the last batter the starter faces must reach base. Ozzie needs to click the eject button on the 2005 WS DVD. Because I think he uses that to help him figure out when to pull his pitchers. He waits until they get raped in the 7th inning, then pulls them either with men on or men in already. Then he picks the worst possible guys to get out of it, either Riske or Cotts is the flavor of choice with men on. Two contact pitchers who have a propensity to give it up.
  20. We should of made a play for Brady Clark. I am sure that he could of helped us out in LF and also gave us a good option to spell Brian from time to time.
  21. Someone from the sox needs to have a sit down with the Hawk and tell him to stop the constant complaining about the umps. Its very Santo like.
  22. QUOTE(soxyess @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) This is the second time in a week that we have had the bases loaded and no outs and failed to score a run. What a bunch of garbage. This is the very reason this team will NOT make the playoffs. Everyone trying to swing for the fence instead of just getting a hit. Well this is what happened with the post ASB 2004 whitesox. medicore pitching, a great offense one night, then they struggled to get a hit the next night. That season signature moment was Carlos Lee striking out a few times with the bases loaded and 1 or no outs playing the twins at home. KW was so upset that he was quoted in the paper saying if he saw another person trying to hit a home run and strike out with RISP he would throw up. That was when I knew that Carlos was gone. I think if they are really into a pitching and defense team they need to redo the fences. The close fences really makes our team have problems after the ASB. The minute the park heats up we start going for the fences. The minute late July hits, the bats get a little tired and you see a lot of warning track power and pull foul home run distance almost homers, followed by infield popups, the rollover grounder or the silly K. If we played in a large park like Detroit our team would probably try and hit more liners instead of trying to park every single pitch.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) I know it won't matter, but there's no excuse for PK to not score from 2nd on that double off of the fence. Abreu turned around to watch that ball go off the fence. Once he does that, you should be on your way. Joey Cora holds people when you should send them, and sends people when they should be held. They should just do the opposite of what he says and this team would score a bunch of runs.
  24. Bases loaded, no outs and 2 infield popups and the long fly we needed happened with 2 outs. Corpseball 2006 edition. I am sick of Hawk b****ing about the umps.
