  1. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) If I had to guess, even when we're in an exciting tight race with the Tigers for the best record in the Majors, and on a quest to repeat as World Champions, the Cubs will get just as much coverage as the Sox. The local media needs to stop covering the Cubs, everything's been discussed to death, Dusty's here to stay, and not much is going to change. But can you imagine if they go on a ten game winning streak? All the attention should be focused on the White Sox in these next 3-4 months. The Sox SHOULD be the huge story in Chicago right now. The Cubs deserve to be ignored by the media! People are intrigued with disasters. Trainwrecks, car crashes, war, mayem, murder, chaos makes good news. How many times do you need to hear the radio/tv state, the sox are the bestest team that has ever been assembled. Watch the news, how many great good person stories are on there, now compare that to how many news stories are about a young man was shot 900 times in an apparant gang shooting. Now Jim smith with a breaking story on someone who fell off of a bridge.
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) They need to get someone out of the US. They know the competition better, they'll know how to prepare better for the World Cup. The fact that the US is soooooo far behind in soccer/futbol blows Getting someone out of the US is a bad idea. Getting some MLS guy like Arena is not good. Get Klinsmann. He has worked for the US Soccer team. He lives near the training facility. He has worked with our system enough to know it. And he has world cup experience.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Anything worthy of repeating? I just turned it on. Murp is now doing his dream trading Anderson I guess for Juan Pierre. Thanks but no thanks Murph. Sometimes this guy is brainless.
  4. Arena contract not renewed. I guess the qualifications for making the US Soccer team wont be playing for DC United or for the University of Virginia. Now lets lock up Klinsmann and get the team to play better teams in Friendlies. 2010 is only 4 years away.
  5. The rhetoric has stepped up from Iran's president Iran pledges support to Syria More on Satan, I mean the Iranian president Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a telephone call that there would be a "fierce response" to any Israeli attack on Syria.
  6. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) If he's not locating his offspeed stuff, I agree. I've seen Freddy throw 88-89 consistently and reach back to throw 91-93 on a gun that clocked Jenks at 97-99 later in the same game. When people say that Freddy's fastball is 86 mph, it's misleading. I was at Freddy's last two games. At the Baltimore game on July 3rd. He was throwing 86-88 on his fastball. The same gun was recording Bedard at 94 consistantly. The same gun had politte at 90/91. The same gun that day had Bmac at 89/90.
  7. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) I'm shocked that Garcia' stock has hit rock bottom amongst fans. When his fastball hits 86 on the gun at the Cell as opposed to the 91-94 we saw last year. What does that scream.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I don't know about that. He would be pitching in a bigger park, but he lets lots of hitters get on base now, and when they get there, they run wild. Freddy Garcia 2006 is a completely different pitcher from anything we have seen from him earlier. He could easily turn into a total disaster. I'm not a fan of Vazquez, but in the playoffs I'd rather have him pitching than Freddy throwing up his junk. Does anyone want to see Freddy throwing 85-88 mph fastballs in the playoffs. And the idea that he is using good stuff against good teams should of went out the window when he was junkballing the Bosox. He doesnt have a fastball anymore for whatever reason.
  9. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) You guys are giving Minaya too much credit, wasn't he the one that traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano in his first year as Mets GM? I think Minaya is the type of GM that will give up a lot if you play your cards right. This deal needs to be centered around Lastings Milledge, the Mets are the ones that NEED Garcia. We really don't have a deep as a hole to fill as the Mets do. If KW gets Sanchez and Milledge for Garcia then he must have some hypno-super powers. That would make him godlike in the GM world. But it taint happening. Milledge isnt coming here.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) Does anyone else sit here and think that a guy who pitches 200+ innings at around age 30 is more valuable than a guy who might pitch 70 inning and is around age 40, even considering contract disparities? When the 30 year old is getting a kings ransom, mysteriously has dropped velocity, and is getting bombed everytime he faces an AL team then I say get BMAC into the rotation and lets rock for the rest of the year. I say put him on the block, and see what the best that comes out of it .
  11. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) That would be my only concern in a Garcia/Vazquez deal. Without one of those guys, we'd be an injury away from having our pre-2005 5th starter situation. Yikes! But besides that, if we can swing one of those guys for bullpen help (particularly Gordon), then all the sudden we improve our rotation with the addition of McCarthy, and improve our bullpen with the addition of (insert name here). Either way, I like the position we are sitting in. Garcia has been pitching like the 5th starter from years ago to the AL this year. So take that for what its worth.
  12. I liked it better when KW was a bit easier to read. When prompted so are we trading for X player, if he had a stone face nothing. If he giggled and made goofy comments, player X was here within a week.
  13. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) Between what Mark Gonzalez is saying, Ken Rosenthal is saying, and now Buster Olney is saying, Vazquez is not being shopped, but Garcia definetely is. Well maybe Freddy's antics at the Bosox series and showing up his teamates pushed this over the edge. That and his new style of pitching. If he isnt hurt and just decided not to throw hard, KW has to be pulling his hair out. Its like if Bobby Jenks just decided that 98 was too hard, so he would cruise it in there at 92 just for the hell of it.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) This Garcia/Vaz to the Mets definitely seems to have some validity to it. If it gets BMAC into the rotation, I am all for it. I think he can do a better job than either of them right now. Garcia is hardly hitting the upper 80s, and Vazquez current is a headcase with good stuff. Bmac has the tools, and more importantly the stones.
  15. I like also. Gritty player, fits well with our system.
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) Maybe the irish have, but they deserved it What good are the Irish anyways. Thats why god invented Guinness, to make sure that the irish would never rule the world.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Man, I'm struggling to find anything which could possibly be worse than that. It's also a Jerusalem post article, citing an unsourced leak from within the IDF, which means that either the IDF believes there's some nugget of truth to it, or the IDF is leaking it on purpose regardless of whether or not there is truth to it to try to build consensus for adding Iran to the list. And either way, the prospect is abjectly awful. If these guys get moved to Iran. Then Iran and Israel will be at war.
  18. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) This 11 year old has the singing voice of a 25 year old! Too bad that only an 80 year old would listen to Yodeling. On the bright side, she can stop a martian invasion with her voice now.
  19. I saw this on a board and the post was called Message board translator. I think it applies to our trade winds season.
  20. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) They stopped the game last nite, with Bud Selig going on about how great Roberto Clemente was, talking about his humanitarian work and play on the field. Didnt baseball already do this? Dont they already have an award for him? (Roberto Clemente award) What was the point of this award? What we saw last nite Already happened a number of years ago. I was not clear, but seems Mr Selig wasnt informed that the Clemente family already received recognition for Robertos achievements The only thing I think is that they should of had it in the pre-game ceremonies. Just before the 1st pitch, instead of interrupting the game. They can honor him as much as they want, he was a hell of a guy who deserves all of the props he gets. He truly was a great man. This was held in Pittsburg, and this is one of their most well known players. I see no problem with the recognition. Maybe the timing was a bit off as the game had already started.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) WaPo. I hope he is overjoyed when the maverick missle brings down the house across the street. I hope they are giving candy out when the tanks roll through. What a bunch of retards. Praising a kidnapping like they won the world cup.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) There are literally millions of children in need of care from responsible adults. I understand that its frustrating to not make your own children without help. But then again there are millions of children already here. Who need help now. And although I don't fault the desire for IVF, I just think that the kids here deserve a parent more than parents deserve kids from their own bodies. Ya know? My wife and I had this discussion before we even got married. We had decided that if we couldnt have children of our own, we would adopt a child. That was just our personal views based on our faith. Now my brother and his wife are both going through fertility treatments right now to have a child. I told him of what happens, and asked him about adoption, but he wants one of his own. He is an adult and its really his decision. I will love my future neices/nephews that come out of that treatment. But I would also love any adopted children that they would have. Its a decision that each family has to make on their own. But as Rex and Jim have said before, there are some ethical issues with IVF that you have be made aware of.
  23. Israel sends tanks into Lebanon after Hezbollah attack Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz told Israeli Channel 10, "If the soldiers are not returned we will turn Lebanon's clock back 20 years Nice to see that Hezbollah couldnt leave this alone. That they had to join the mess.
