QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) I would leave the starting pitching as is. On paper it's a World Series winning staff. It has to be allowed to play out. If it fails then too bad. That's baseball. We still could use some relief help obviously. There's no way the starting pitching staff should be changed unless injury forces one of the regular starters to be shut down. On paper it's a great staff. I think one of the members of our starting staff is already injuried. Or does someone have a magical reason that Freddy lost so many miles per hour on his fastball. I lost some mph when I ended my baseball career in junior year of college. Felt a slight twinge, and then couldnt throw hard anymore. My MRI revealed horror in my elbow and shoulder.

QUOTE(ViperPilot @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Here's the good part......could be up 3 by the time we wake up in the morning.......Tomorrow the CWS go up against Shilling who will be pumped to shove the ASG snub in Guillen's ugly mug.....we could be 4 games up going into the break....when we come back, we have 4 games at home vs the Royals and the CWS have 4 against the NYY in NY......it could be a pretty good lead by the time they get to Detroit.......with the way the White Sox are pitching, I think they could be in some trouble...... I put a bet that you wont make it past the allstar break if you keep up the banner posting.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) I'm just wondering if anyone can answer this question honestly for me, what exactly does Scott Podsednik do that is above average? From what I can tell he doesn't have a single tool that can be considered excellent. Last year he got on base and caused havoc. This year he seems to be trying to hit the ball in the air. When he gets on first he either gets picked off, or does nothing. And it seems this year, he has forgotten how to catch fly balls. Not difficult fly balls, no run of the mill he gets under it fly balls. Hopefully they start playing Mr. Fields in LF for the rest of the year, and we can go with a Fields/someone else platoon instead of the great he is fast, cant get on base, cant steal routine we have now.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) She's gotta be taking a lot of energy out of him prior to game time. I am amazed that he can tap that and still have energy to walk.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) You think Ozuna would have made that catch? Not that it's a good excuse, but even if Pods made the catch, it wouldn't have mattered. BTW, Politee sucks. Ozuna is not the starting left fielder for the whitesox. BTW I am also sure that Gload wouldnt of caught it either, how is that part of that Pods should of caught the ball. This is a guy that some on this board where peddling to replace Anderson for a while. The fact that he cannot catch a fly ball is scary. Ball goes into mitt, ball comes out of mitt. If Pods had Ozunas hussle and balls he would be a perennial allstar. But how motivated do you have to be when you are tapping a playboy playmate all the time.

How about the fine upstanding moron red cub fan who posted on the ESPN board that tonights game was blacked out in his area because we didnt draw enough fans. Odd it seems that we draw only 808 less fans per game to the Cell than the Red Cubs do to their fine mecca. I still remember game one of the ALDS when some Red Cub fan who looked like Ted Kennedy ran his mouth before the game on how they were going to repeat. Then the beatdown began, and he left by the 4th inning.

I have had enough with Chris Widger

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 12:56 AM) Fish u nicca. EDIT: I also find it histerical that you diss the Widge and he is so-called your favorite player on the sox. He is da man. No one can touch him. Actually he cant touch lefties. Hence why he provides nothing. .175 BA against lefties, you know the guys I primarily hit against because I sub in for AJ is so kewl. -
The sad thing is he took BA out for Pods and Pablo out for Mack. Then the very next inning Pods pulled his, I suddenly dont know how to catch fly balls routine. I dont care if Pods cant catch the diving ball in the corner. But fly balls that he has time to settle under, he should catch. That is a mental mistake, physical mistakes happen, mental mistakes are poor focus. I hope Ozzie keeps BA in over the next two games. You know how itchy he is with right handers with good stuff. He gets into that we need X amount of left handers. BA has a history of hitting toolsy righties.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) Tonight I experienced both ends of the Red Sox spectrum. First you had the drunken 21 year old who stood up, looked back, and taunted all the White Sox fans around the entire game, basically anytime the Red Sox got a hit or the Sox GIDP or struck out. He was a tool and security should have taken him out because towards the end of the game people started throwing things at him and families of White Sox fans were getting hit with the peanuts and cups instead of the douchebag. Then there was a quiet, friendly couple in front of us who were very respectful. They cheered for the Red Sox, but did it without making a scene and being arrogent pricks. Most of the "Sawx" fans were annoying and obnoxious though. It seems like a cult following. Kind of weird if you ask me. They have a nasty old crappy stadium. They believed in curses. They only care about attendance and how their team travels well. All they need is weeds on the walls and they are the fools to the north. Hence why they are called....The Red Cubs.

Well hopefully our bats come along for the ride. Freddy hopefully will bring his 90+ fastball tomorrow. I will be at this game, after first getting a pre-game tailgate snack of Brats and Beer. AJ behind the dish, and hopefully Ozzie goesnt get goofy and put Mack in for Anderson. Anderson is swinging a good stick and we need to ride this out.

I saw this posted on another site. I think I want to vomit. Breakdown of AJ vs Widge with Buerhle pitching Total Innings with Widger Catching = 54 Games Started = 8 Games Started vs. Powerful Lineups = 6 Earned Runs = 32 Sox Record = 3-5 Mark Buehrle Record = 1-5 Total Innings with AJ Catching = 69 Games Started = 10 Games Started vs. Powerful Lineups = 2 Games Started = 10 Earned Runs = 23 (10 vs. the Cubs in one game) Sox Record = 9-1 Mark Buehrle Record = 8-1 -
I have had enough with Chris Widger
southsideirish71 replied to santo=dorf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here is the very large problem. He plays against lefties for the most part. Against lefties, he is batting....... .175 So basically he is an auto out. What Widge does this year, is he gets a good count, then cant get around on the fastball. He can hit the neck high fastball, but anything in the zone he has problems with. -
The biggest problem for our starters like Mark. Is the inability to finish someone off when they get 0-2. I saw 2 things, either a fat pitch over the middle of the plate that got hit hard, or we rescue them with a bunch of pitches in the dirt and then get even in the count or go full. Small strike zone + Widger behind the plate + Marky Mark = fugly And a big hell yeah goes out to Bmac who has been trying to sneak his 90 mph straight as an arrow fastball at the chest to good hitters this week. So far 4 of them havent landed. Bmacs mechanics are f***ed. He is leaving everything high, which means only one thing. Bombs away. He needs to keep his fastball down, and he also needs to throw his curve for strikes. So far he has been having a problem throwing his hook for strikes, and his fastball is not quite good enough to blow hitters by. We need to go out and get a reliever, and ship Mr. McCarthy down to the minors so he can start again and get his control, and his pitches back again.

Another non-strikeout, contact guy who is behind every hitter. Maybe our offense will get the memo, real tight goofy strikezone tonight. Dont swing the bat unless its shot out from the batting machine down the middle. -

Widger blocking 2 feet in front of the plate, then tries a piroette. Sweet. This is great, 4 runs. Based on dumb s***. -

So you have a 2nd baseman shading towards the bag, then you throw a pitch away and the hitter goes with it. Then we wonder why he has been having problems lately. Dumb f***ing pitch calling. -

Well hopefully Thome squares one up this next inning, because we seem to get the runners on tonight, but we need some extra go go whitesox power to get them in. We should seriously be leading this game 6-3. -

That would of been a single, however Taz was amazed by the pretty white ball and decided to wait to run to first. -

Another one of our pitchers makes a dumb f***ing 2 strike pitch. What is the point of just throwing a cookie up there. 3-2 Red Cubs -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) There is no more payroll excuse, no more World Series excuse, You guys are mighty bitter. I am still waiting for the supposed fan of both teams to update his avatar. You should have the current world champions in your avatar, not the team we swept out. 2004 was so 2 years ago.

Beat the s*** out of the Red Cubs. Keep the big pooper in check and we should be good. I want 2 out of 3 in the series, and I want the Count to beat Bloody Sawk on Sunday. His b****ing and moaning, and campaigning for an allstar spot is sick. He can eat s*** and move on. Brian Anderson is hitting .267 this month. Keep it up kid. -
I'm pretty much done with Javier Vazquez.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) Why do people keep saying that? I don't rememer Jose's ERA being over 5 at any point last year. Everyone was all over Contreras, I was I will admit it. I watched him get absolutely bombed against Arizona for an 8 spot. He was in between, throwing his forkball more than his fastball. He looked like he was taking a step backwards. With him and El Duque there were comments about the Cuban pitching crisis we had. Then poof, he turned it on. Does it happen with Javy, maybe maybe not. He has the stuff. Its just a few pitches that get him in trouble. Its not like they are just bombing the crap out of Javy. I would like to see him attack the zone more, and use his slider more to right handers with 2 strikes. I think he is trying to throw his two seamer more than he should because of trying to keep the ball in the park. I think that takes away from his game. Lets see what Coop does with him. I think its small adjustments that need to happen to make Javy into a winner for us.
