  1. Why is pods elevating every pitch. I thought he was a fast guy who got on base and made things happen. Maybe someone fell in love with his new found power during the post season.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) It also gives ALOT more pitches for Thome to kill. Jim got s*** to hit that AB. Dye out????? Its a bit cold for spiders.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Pods is going to be the wipping boy this season. If he goes for the fences, sure he will be. What makes him dangerous is to get on base, and to create havoc. We have more than enough guys to hit the dong. In his rookie season he got on base, his 2nd season he got homer happy trying to do too much everything suffered. Last year he got back to getting on base, hopefully this year is not the year of Pods trying to hit the dong.
  4. Pods thinks he is a power hitter now. He was putting the ball in the air yesterday like crazy. Put it on the ground or hit a line drive. Get on base. That is your job, it is not to dong the ball.
  5. QUOTE(hi8is @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) contreras has been pitching great, you gotta just tip your cap to cleveland this inning. Getting to 3-2 on Ben Broussard after getting 2 strikes is pitching good.
  6. Conteras needs to throw strikes. This f***ing high pitch count, walking people, in danger with the bases loaded crap is circa pre-second half Count.
  7. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) I was in the upper deck yesterday and I had never seen so many stupid people in my life. I know that there will be more and more of this with the bigger crowds and all of the new "Sox Fans". People around me yesterday new nothing about baseball what so ever. They were dressed head to toe in Sox gear and seemed very proud to be White Sox Fans. However they did not know who Cintron, Mockoviak, or Boone Logan were. All they did was complain about how bad of a pitcher Garcia was and that he should be traded after yesterday. It was horrible listening to that for 9 innings. Well only 6 inning they left in disgust after the 6th. They said I am not going to pay to go to any more games to see the garbage. I had a drunk guy next to me scream, Why did we trade Rowand for garbage after mack didnt get to a ball. I turned to him and said, hey moron remember that long home run that you jumped up and down about, that was the piece of garbage we got for Rowand. Then he told me Anderson sucks because he didnt get to that line drive. I told him well he had a hard time getting to that line drive from the f***ing dugout. Then he decided to argue with me that the guy in center was really Anderson, his proof was the fact that mack is a righty and Anderson was a lefty. Maybe he was too drunk to read the large lineup printout on the scoreboard. My brother leans over and says, you are a converted cub fan right. Well welcome aboard, but we sox fans actually know who the players are, and have some clue. This is not an open bar, so if you want to get f***ed up and then spout stupidity, please keep that for yourself.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) He gave up a double, but aside from that he got Hafner to hit into a double play and while he didn't impress me with his command, no one really seemed to hit him hard. I didn't see a lot of movement on his pitches but the hitters are the true sign and they had trouble squaring up. The true test will be how he does as people get enough film on him to come up with a good scouting report. Than we find out whether he can be a main stay in the pen. You have to like the fact he gets a lot of GB's and people haven't hit him hard (including spring training). Still, we will learn a lot about Anderson, Thornton, Logan and a few others as this season progresses. Prior to the trade deadline Kenny will know what he has and whether changes need to be made. Jas, We have to give boone a few outings before we know what we have out there. I was watching him warm up and he threw one that hit the wall. He was obviously very nervous.
  9. I just got back from the game. Freddy was frustrating. He labors on the mound going deep in counts, relying on his fastball and his sinker to get out of it. In previous years he would throw a lot of breaking pitches early to get strikeouts and then revert to his fastball. Today he looked like he was playing lob league. He was getting behind hitters putting himself in dangerous hitting counts but didnt have anything on his fastball to get past it. When you get behind a major league hitter and can throw a 94 mph fastball you have a chance, when you throw a 88 mph fastball down the middle of the plate on hitting counts you are going to get lit up like today. The other thing that was a bother today was that Freddy had some hitters in 0-2 and 1-2 counts, he couldnt put the guy away. He would either draw full on the hitter or would give up an 0-2 screaming line drive. He looked like he was frustrated. One other thing that contributed to his poor outing was the fact that Mack didnt play great defense in center. There was a line drive that I am pretty sure Anderson would of ran the right route to. It rolled to the wall a few runs scored. Mack came in on the crack of the bat and the ball kept going out. That was a play that should of been made. I understand that Ozzie is going to rotate people in an out, but after the kid goes 2-3 lets see what he can do. We need the CF defense right now more than the lefty-righty matchup.
  10. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) 15 minute mile?? What in the hell were they doing, walking?? You would be surprised. You get people who make this mad dash out of the gate, and then wind up walking or just running at a snails pace the minute they realize that they havent even hit a 1/2 mile yet.
  11. I am pretty happy with my run. Not a bad start to the race season. Just a smidge over 37 minutes. I qualify for the preferred start next year so I dont have to fight the mobs and mobs of people at the start like this year. 25k people raced today. Just a clue to the people running this next year, if you run a 15 minute mile, dont pack it up in the front. I spent the first mile and a half dogging some of the 15 minute miler crew. Next year I go up front. I will shoot for 33 to 35 minutes next year. Wierdest thing I saw today during the race was some purple haired girl stopped around the mile and a half point so she could lean over and drink some standing water from the curb. I dont even see homeless people doing that.
  12. There goes my profanity laced hello to the fellow chat crew members tonight.
  13. mlbtraderumors.com = not reality This site is fantasyland. Unless you think that the Brewers are trading Carlos Lee to the cubs anytime soon. Are they happy about the Dustin situation. I mean anyone can figure out that they are not thrilled. Backs are tricky. He probably did feel good, up until he started baseball activity. Jenks will be fine as far as his velocity. It takes hard throwers longer to get their velocity. He was dumb with the weights, weights are probably the worst thing he could of done. His flexibility is probably down a bit, meaning he will have to work harder to get loose.
  14. A nice brisk 8k in the morning before the opener. Any other soxtalkers running in this race. I am shooting for a 35 minute time this year.
  15. Out of the group now, the only one I would like to see moved is Freddy G. He has a lot of value, big game pitcher. Kind of pitches to his competition. When he faces a great team he pitches great, when he faces the KC Royals he gets lit up.
  16. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) Anyone else have Thunderstruck going through their head already? It all starts for me the minute that the opening video starts playing the He's a pirate song warming up to Thunderstruck. Its the best video start to any sportings event. It gives me the chills watch that listening to the music and then tearing into Thunderstruck. Whomever came up entire thing needs some accolades because that is awsome.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) But were developing him right. He's going to be the final hitter in the lineup and he's going to have very little pressure on him. The same can't be said for all the guys in the pen. Remember, all this said I fully expect Kenny to make a trade (probably sooner rather than later) and maybe even a 2nd deal (if something happens and Jenks can get his velocity back cause he was a lazy bum in the offseason) and we will win the division. Ozzie said yesterday that Jenks was at 97-98 on the gun. That is just about where he needs to be to start the season. If he throws strikes and gets ahead he will be fine. If he gets into hitters counts and walks people he will get mashed. I dont care how hard he throws. I am as big of a Jenks fan as you get on this board, but he needs to throw strikes to be effective.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) Plus he was the type of guy that you could run out 3 or 4 days in a row and he'd only get better. I couldn't believe how much hate Viz took because he had a few awful appearances early on. He was a horse out of our pen and will be missed. Even Marte had his bright spots for at least half of the season. Viz wasnt going to get the amount of work he would need to be effective here. We have too many pitchers going deep into games. He was much better with a lot of work, but there were times last year and there will be times this year that our starters go 7 to 8 deep in games and there just isnt enough innings for a rubber arm like Viz that constantly needs action to maintain his effectiveness.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Unless you're expecting one of the starters to go down, I think our "Innings eater" is Brandon. I think they are priming Brandon for the back end of the pen right now because of his stuff. Thorton is the innings eater right now.
  20. Every year we have ?s in our bullpen. We have had a merry go round on the closer scene for the last 5 years. It usually winds up working one way or another. I am not as worried about our bullpen, and think it will figure itself out. Last year Marte for the 2nd half of the year was terrible. He quit on the team during the final stretch of the season, and only based on sure necessity we kept him on the team. He couldnt get lefties out, he was more likely to plunk Haftner or give up a dong than K him. Hermanson was a warrior, but he was hurt for the 2nd half of last season. He was so hurt they took a AA guy and brought him up making him a closer during the stretch run. He really didnt pitch that much in the 2nd half. Vizcaino was a mix, sometimes he was pretty good, sometimes he was Mike Jackson part II. He had a mid 90s fastball, but never threw it. Remember last year we started out with an iffy pen. Shingo was getting rocked like Billy Koch. Cotts was 1 year removed from walking the world. Hermanson was a bad closer from San Francisco that people thought was 5th starter insurance for El Duque. Jenks was some headcase that wasnt even a blip on the radar outside of his arm and his injury issues. Trust me it will all figure itself out or Ozzie will kick their asses out.
  21. Here is a picture of his car in the Tribune parking lot. Ricks Honda
  22. Now if this kid beats the crap out of his mom when he gets older, I think the law should turn a blind eye to it. She is a piece of crap.
  23. Anna and Kris are done If he cheated on her, will she service the entire group of Orioles? If he let little head wander, Anna will take on the entire Oriole locker room in a sex a thon that will make the Vikings cruise seem like a church excursion.
  24. Too bad we have nothing to trade for Gaithright. He would be great Pods insurance.
