  1. What everyone forgets is the coop factor. Neal Cotts -- Couldnt hit the side of a barn if you put it 5 feet in front of him. Kind of had some Rick Ankiel type throws here and there. Bad Control. Coop fixed him Bobby Jenks - Couldnt hit the side of a barn if you put it 2 feet in front of him. Supposedly was a head case, picked up for nothing. Coop has him throwing strikes, he was on the mound for the last out. Now we have Thorton. Lets be honest, the Seattle coaching staff is not exactly known for their pitching prowess. In fact they have a new pitching instructor. Lets see what Cooper can do with him. I think he can be serviceable as a mop up guy.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) So did Bobby get out of it? Yup, a DP got him out of it.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) First, I was never sold on Logan--and never will be this spring training unless Guillen finds him appropriate work. That should be consisted of relieving starters immediately after they depart-- when opposing teams' regulars remain in the lineup. Find Logan situations such as today where there are runners on base. Basically, situations where you'd expect failure, and anything more is to be regarded as a plus. What makes those hard hit outs different from past appearances is the game situation. It was a tied game with runners on 1st/2nd base. His location was off, and thus, balls were hit harder/deeper. His second inning of work, the Royals last batter--a lefthander--hit a scorching line drive to Anderson. Sort of important in the scheme of things since Logan would essentially be our clubs LOOGY. And remember, none of this has been against legitimate major league talent. Most ridiculous thing you've ever heard? Sounds like a statement someone makes when they know they may be wrong, yet don't want to admit it. I would like to see him face better hitters also. But, He did face the meat of the As lineup in a game a bit back. He K'd Chavez. I want to see him be the first arm of the pen in a jam situation against the regulars.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Wow, Jenks is struggling. Bases loaded. Matt Thornton for closer? All I care about is it sounds like his velocity is back. Farmio is claiming his velocity is at almost full strength.
  5. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) That prob true as I havent been able to see most ST games but the sample size in ST is just to small for me. For one he is not very quick or speedy and it always seemed an adventure in the MLB's for him when I saw him out there. What happens when he starts having shoulder trouble again... Then we are 0 for 2 on this deal. Even if he had only one arm, Gload would hit better than Borchard. One freak injury and now you are claiming his shoulder will give him trouble.
  6. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) He is just awful period, but especially at PBP. I never thought I would hear worse PBP than Farmer's but Singleton has accomplished the feat. Sleepy Singleton is putting me to sleep. A swing, 5 second pause, one pause, two pause, three pause, bouncer to the third baseman, pause while he looks it up, insert name here. I think we are out. Pause. Just bad. Rooney was definately worth the money.
  7. Singleton's PBP is horrible. I feel like I am listening to 88.1 fm and some high school football broadcast.
  8. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) I hate this trade... Its absolutely worthless... I would rather have Borch in the outfield than Gload anyday... despite Borchards recent boobles too. Id rather have a PH that has a chance to ge the big hit like Borch rather than Gload. Sure Gload has been better in the past in the MLB but he just doesnt do anything for me. He's kinda a slappy hitter and I hate how he goes up swinging at first pitch sometime. In all of the history of Joe Borchard where did you get the idea that he can hit major league pitching. Gload can hit major league pitching. Borchard is a better OF than Gload, but in the stick category there is no comparison.
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) So the Mariners had Thornton start throwing from the third-base side of the rubber and he was improving his control. Man, it really sucks to waste a 97 MPH fastball. Lets get him away from Seattle and get him in Coops hands for a bit and lets see what he can do. Jenks was the same way, a guy with a great arm who could throw a ball throw a wall, but couldnt hit it. Boone Logan couldnt find the strikezone also. Sometimes is about getting the right advise, something that works.
  10. This of course is conjecture and possibly bulls*** so be warned. On the ESPN boards one of the seattle fans said that Thorton was moved because he was out of options. Take it with a monsterous grain of salt.
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) Borchard is on WSCR 670 right now. These guys are trying to get the slime angle on this. They are trying to get Joe to say something negative. So far he is taking the high road. Good luck in Seattle Joe.
  12. clocked as high as 97mph with no control maybe coop can get him under control ala Jenks. This is a low risk/high reward type move for the sox. If they can get him under control sometime this year, he has a hell of an arm.
  13. Widge hits a line drive to short RF and the run scores. 7-6 brewers. Almanza I think is pitching. Sweeney has a nice plate presence. He works a 3-2 after going down 0-2. Then gets a good swing on a 3-2 breaking pitch and lifts a fly ball for an out.
  14. Watch a guy trying to make the team. Gload slams his foot hard into the fence making a great catch. I hope he is okay. Tracey looks better from the stretch than he does when he goes into the windup.
  15. Tracey looked good there. Kept the ball down for the most part. His fastball had some life on it. He needs to do more of that. I picked a good year not to go to ST. Its pretty cool down there this year.
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Kid can barely follow through with his swing, yet drives in a run. LOL. Mr. Nunez is trying to use this to make the team. Its the first ST app for Mr. Meatball. I thought I had retired him when Viz was traded.
  17. He was released from the Rockies in 2004. Traded from the Rangers to the Cardinals last year. Who promptly released him in a month. Then the diamonbacks picked him up, but their bullpen was terrible.
  18. Nunez keeps shaking off widger. Anytime that Widge puts down anything besides a slider, he shakes him off. Its thriller all over again. 83 mph meatballs so far.
  19. Konerko, Dye, Thome look like they are starting to get their timing down. And to make things even better, Group 4 this year is looking good. Cintron and Mack can hit.
  20. Cintron hits one under the glove of Fielder. 1st and 3rd Then Mack hits a triple in the gap. 5 all
  21. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Everything doesn't revolve around making the big league team. Players are trying to impress, move up in the system and get their shot at higher levels. I think Ozzie would rather have the kid throw some strikes and check out his stuff. He would rather have a kid get lit up and challenge someone, than do what we just witnessed . ie: Nibble like a gerbil around the strikezone, walk the bases loaded then the next guy does the same thing and a crooked number goes up.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Is Nunez a spring training invitee or a minor league arm? I like his stuff--nice movement on his fastball and breaking pitches. Jenkins looked foolish on two in particular. He pitched for the Marlins a while back. He is a Thriller/Vizcaino clone, however they both had better stuff than Nunez. And as I am posting this, just like Thriller he lets all of the inherited runners score.
  23. Nunez walks the next batter. He is doing his thriller impersonation. No fastballs, just so breaking crap one 3-2. Men on for the Prince.
