  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) "Each nationality had to learn an entirely different language". When did the Irish need to learn English? You obviously havent met my relatives
  2. Willis has already given up 2 quick runs in the 1st. His ERA is almost 19 at this point.
  3. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) if someone gets dropped from the three hole, i want them to get angry. that's part of loving to compete, part of wanting that pressure on you. i've never understood why some fans want players to take any demotion absolutely quietly. they're going to be upset, whether they talk to media or not, so dont fool yourself. you make a good point that his prediction borders on cattiness, but thats about all i see one could take issue with. so what if he stands up for Willie? they were teammates. actually, that first point you make accuses him of not supporting his teammates, and in this Willie issue you accuse of him doing so to excess? which one is it? Maybe you should shoot an email to Ozzie to complain. Because after reading his quotes in the SunTimes, he has a similiar opinon on the leadership of Carl Everett and company and their affect on this years squad. In fact his example was the same one I used last week with Carl being dropped from 3rd to 6th. Ozzie is the leader of this team. /END OF THREAD
  4. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) Welcome aboard, I was once a poster of the ESPN boards, but this place is a lot better. You miss Boog, admit it.
  5. Slacker, Jabroni will have that passed up in another week or so. Congrats!!!
  6. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) They've been working on this for a few years now, I know. MS-13 is the gang to worry about. Their members have good amounts of actual military training and battle experience. When you have a crash team hitting a drug house, you have to watch out as they boobie trap their hideouts with C4.
  7. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) no, that was the worst post in this thread. that blind go-team-go attitude, to the point of completely forgetting the contributors you rooted for in 05...it's just embarassing to read. Carl's hitting nearly carried us at the beginning of the year, a part of the season where more talented Sox teams in the past have shot themselves in the foot for good. he covered Jermaine's comatose bat early in the year, Jermaine covered his later. Carl also hit near .450 in the series. he argued his points well, takes no cheap shots, and actually represents the same beliefs of some still-diehard Sox fans. i dont see anything here inappropriate, and we'll just have to see whether KW's plans were right. i personally like our moves, but i'm not going to insult Carl's take on this. Lets get back to reality . I thank all of our contributers to the 2005 season, however I am not going to sit here and say that their comments in 2006 get a blind eye when they make wacky predictions of us placing 3rd because we made a changeover of a few players. If he feels that our chemistry has changed nice, next time someone shoves a mike in your face talk about your team "the seattle mariners", the one you are currently are on. 2005 is over. Turn the page, because I guarentee you the team has.. And as many a person can tell you on this board, I am not a sox apologist or homer by any means. Carl had his moments, but lets not act like he was a saint and the ultimate team player. Carl was all team until he got dropped from the 3 hole where he wasnt producing to the 6 hole. Remember he went to the press about it. This was when we were fighting for our playoffs lives mind you. Ozzie snapped him back in line and we luckily found a 3 hole hitter for the playoffs. Someone making a comment that Willie Freakin Harris is the glue that held the team together is a bit overstating their case. There was an article last season that KW got pissed when WH was packing his s*** up after the As series in his locker because he thought he was getting shipped out. The vocal leader on this team is Ozzie. End of story. I dont hear nasty things coming from Aaron Rowand who I think was more valuable to our season last year than Carl or Willie Harris. Thank you ex whitesox members for your contribution to 2005. You will forever be remembered. Enjoy your ring, and move on. Lets revere 2005, but lets remember that season is now preserved forever on commemorative DVD. Lets look forward to 2006 as the defending champs and lets kick some ass with the team we are now.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) If it motivates whichever one doesn't make the team into playing better and becoming better trade bait...they can taunt each other all they like. Winner makes the team. Loser becomes trade bait. Hopefully this will go neck and neck with a great spring to jack up the losers value.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Dye has a $6M option for '07 which is ridiculously affordable, it will almost certainly be picked up. IMO, there's a much better chance that Pods is gone after this season and we see Owens and Sweeney battle it out in Spring Training next year for the open spot. The only way I see Pods gone after this year is if he A.) Gets injuried again slowing him down, making him one dimensional or B.) Has such a great year that his value is so good that you have teams clamoring for him. isnt Pods still under team control for a few years. His only negative is he is a speed guy who is only getting older. Speed goes well before power. Owens should be picking Pods brain right now trying to learn as much about basestealing as he can.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) I believe Anderson has the same resources, does he not? They usually dont bring in special hitting coaches unless its for a specific reason. If Anderson frustrates the sox they may lean on someone to give him a different view, but I doubt if they will bring in Hrniak for this.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) Well, who was responsible for Uribe's improvement and his timing mechanism? Walt Hrniak helped him with the leg kick and timing. He was brought in late last year to work specifically with Uribe and it seemed to work out.
  12. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) This morning I decided to call the local post office from my former address to find out why I havent recieved mail for about a week and a half after I moved. So I called 411 directory assistance, a nice lady answers and asks "City and Listing?", I say "Rolling Meadows, IL, and US Postal office", a computerized click and a number is repeated to me"1-800-275-2777". I hang up the phone, and call the number. A recorded womans voice answers "Thank you for choosing Pilgrim Telephone. Pilgrim advertising will be heard after the recording. " a small click "Are you feeling horny?" *click*, I hang up the phone. Laughing to myself, I call 411 again, thinking I just misheard the recording and dialed the wrong 800 number by mistake. Same rigamarole, and the recording comes up again "The number is 1-800-275-2777". WTF? So I hang up and call 411 one more time, and this time before I could get to the automated voice telling me the number for my listing, I tell the lady on the phone what had just happened to me. She tells me that I have to talk to her supervisor so she can report the incident, I say ok and she transfers my call. The phone rings about 15 times before I hang up, and I call 411 AGAIN and this time, the recording answers "The number is 1-800-275-8777" I wonder how many people were wrongly given a number for phone sex? Kyyle hung up, after trying to get to the bottom of this with Mistress Lisa for 50 minutes.
  13. Sweeney needs more AB's in the minors. Lets get a year of production from him when he is healthy. He is not a CF so let stop that silly idea. You just cannot plug any OF into the CF position. Ken Griffey Jr should not be a CF now. KGJ has Bernie Williams like range now. Anderson will have some learning curves as far as from the offensive categories, but his defense will be fine. Lets see him get some licks at the plate before we all decide to declare him dead. The Rowand lovers forget that when Rowand came up, he had a hard time hitting, played decent defense, and was ridden on this board and others to be traded or let go. Anderson has hit at every level he has played. He was our number 1 draft choice.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) Even if Thome died, I'd still rather have Ross Gload DH, or have Mack play 1B and DH Konerko, than have Carl back. He was the worst DH in the league last year, in case we all forgot. He was our 3 hitter for most of the year, but he was so bad in September that we moved Konerko and Dye into the 3 hole just to get production out of it. In fact Dye started hitting in the 3 hole the week before the playoffs start. If that didnt tell you where Crazy Carl was going I dont know what will. Carl thanks for your efforts last year, but as this is 2006, STFU.
  15. Carl that man who does this is named Ozzie Guillen. We will be fine.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Is there any doubt how huge of a pick up this guy was? Our sunday lineup is better than some teams starting lineup.
  17. Thome, with a triple????????????????????????????
  18. QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) since the last game thread i started yealded a victory... we all know i have to do it again... since that is indeed the sole reason they won. So whats todays word of the day.
  19. Here is another possible angle to this. This move could also be protection for if Joe's back acts up. Uribe moves to 3rd, Cintron plays SS. Our infield is still pretty damn strong. Mack can play 3rd, but this gives us the best possible defensive backup infield in the event of Joes back acting up. Man is this team deep.
  20. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 01:05 AM) Well to be fair US Cellular field is hardly the hardest place in the league to play CF... Hell he'd be better then Carl Everett was when he was our starting CF... Somehow adding another potential 40 HR hitter in the lineup just makes me want to cream my pants... How is he going to hit 40 homers when he plays 30 games. What a HR/Game ratio.
  21. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) Ohh well either way... Is anyone else hoping that KW now just says payroll be damned and swings a trade with the Reds for Ken Griffey Jr and say Kent Mecker.... Griffey and Mecker for Borchard, Any outfield prospect not named Anderson or Sweeney, and one of our top pitching prospects... If KW did that then I think I would just cream my pants on the spot... The Griffey ship sailed about a year ago around the trade deadline. We got this slugger named Thome who fills that position. Griffey hurts himself when he farts, so I dont think he would be anything for us besides a DH.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Do you remember when I wrote him an email about a trade rumor we made up, and it was mentioned slightly on his site the next week? That guy is a joke. Hence why mlbtraderumors.com is a worthless site. The guy uses fanboards as his source for rumors. Half the stuff we come up with here are "wishes". Imagine if this guy comes here in late June/July when chaveztalk starts up again.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) Maybe you or your buddies at Rotoworld can name a few better back-ups since he is an average one. Rotoworld has some great contributing writers. Such as the guy from mlbtraderumors.com who had all of these insider rumors that never every panned out. Remember how one of those insider rumors was exactly like a post that someone put on this website a week before that said his father was one of the Whitesox owners. It was pretty much verbatim quote of the soxtalk thread on mlbtraderumors. The minute some of us saw that, we dismissed that site, and now I have some reservations on any site that uses that guy as a writer.
