New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
southsideirish71 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) mlbtraderumors.com is not a bulls*** site. He does in fact have legitimate sources. And all baseball teams go through tons of proposals and interest in players. Hey maybe I am wrong, who knows. I am a bit sour on it just based on things that happened this week. One of the "sources" he quoted was a fan webboard. It kind of puts a shroud of illegitamacy when a site quotes a fan webboard as a source. -
New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...

Again that site is bulls***. I liike sweeney. He is my favorite prospect, however I couldnt care less if we gave that up for tejada. It would make our offense pretty stacked for the next few years. That plus our exsiting pitching staff would give us the ability to make a run for a few years. Now the fact that this site mentioned it. I doubt it would happen. Hopefully his "source" is not the mlb.com forums. -
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) not all the time. they use newspapers across the country and use radio shows across the nation as references as well. They do, however when you site a fan message board as an outlet for a "source" for a trade IMO you lose all credibility. Think of all the bogus trade crap and wishful thinking that goes on message boards.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) Makes sense for Seattle, they want to beef up there pitching (although Arroyo is not that good) and Patterson is worth the gamble. Makes sense for Boston, they get a player with tons of potential in Reed. Makes NO sense for the sCrubs. Where would Ibanez play LF? He's nothing special, and what would Graff do platoon with Walker? I hope for Graffs sake he doesn't get traded there. MLBTraderumors uses message boards as a source. /end of thread

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) http://www.grc.com/sn/notes-020.htm This thing is reportedly pretty nasty and tons of machines are vulnerable. Visiting a website with one bad file on it can infect your machine with tons of spyware even if you dont click on anything. Microsoft isn't releasing a fix for this until next week and it's recommended that you install the WMF patch utility here before then. I also found a video showing how easy it is to get. From the corporate side this sucks. I am less inclined to install a third party patch on my systems(yes they have published the source but I dont have time to take the binary apart to make sure its ok), so we have deregistered that dll via a login script and are blocking any wmf or emf files no matter the extension on the web and via email. This however has had another lovely side affect, I am enemy number one as f***ing with peoples image files and how they view them seems to have pissed off my entire company. Deregistering the DLL messes up how you see image files, so its not a popular thing with our user base. Microsoft has completed the patch, however they are doing extended testing and will release it next Tuesday. At that point those who use WSUS or Microsoft Automatic Updates will get the patch automatically. So far we have seen the infection at my company through the MSN Instant Messenger. People clicking on a link that a anonymous sender sends them. Then basically the same thing happens as that video. The good news on this is that I was denied a new IPS system, that magically got re-reviewed and approved due to this. Thanks Microsoft for blowing dog. If you want to have a safe browsing environment until the patch comes out, go to vmware.com and download their browser appliance and the vmplayer. It is a free self contained linux environment that automatically launches a firefox browser and its all within a 256 meg image file. You can browse without having anything interact with your base OS. It runs under your windows OS.

QUOTE(kdhargo @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) The latest from www.mlbtraderumors.com (take w/ grain of salt) states the the Red Sox and Orioles have made an initial agreement in the Tejada sweepstakes. "The word is the Tejada-Ramirez/Clement trade has been agreed to in principle by the two teams blocked only at this time with last minute complications caused by Manny." Complications? Manny? Nawww.... Well this proves what a worthless rumor site this is. They use a fan message board as a source for the rumor. What next the mlb.com message boards will be the next credible source. If this is what they use for sources, what is next .DoDg3rsRul3 stated that he thought that Bill Mueller for Mark Prior was a reality. Only a physical is the difference maker. Our sources believe this is credible because DoDg3rsRul3 has 1000 posts.

Dayn Perrys wet dream More straws being grasped. My favorite line is, Five years running the Yankees have been the preseason favorite to win the World Series. This time, they'll come through. Well we should start seeing the preseason predictions coming in. I figure we will be picked anywhere from being champs to fighting it out for 4th place with the royals based on whatever mediot decides to put pen to paper. Lets see what happens on the field.

Iran President: Israel Completed Holocaust
southsideirish71 replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) What other locations were considered for Israel? Well being a kind humanitarian as all Iranian presidents are, He suggested a place with more moisture, the Mediterranean Sea. I am sure that the president of iran and his nuclear scientists are working around the clock to help the Israelies with that problem.. So how bad is it going to suck for gas prices, when the Iranian crazy man decides to f*** with Israel, and Tehran glows in the dark forever. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/01/D8ES5HTO6.html Well its nice to see that the "freely" elected president from Iran is f***ing insane. -
So basically its a political action committee. Just like all of them huh. Both the Dems and the Republicans have pacs, and both sides have just as much behind the scenes crap around them. Pacs are evil, for both sides of this. Its the shadier side of our lovely system. Conjecture and bulls*** aside, and party lines aside, BOTH SIDES are just to blame. And both sides have equally slimy PACs. Anyone that believes this is a republican thing only is a bit naive.

If the WhiteSox are so amped up on having a speedy guy in CF, just use Owens. Why waste the Count trade on Taveras. Anderson is ready for the majors. He is a KW type guy. If we were so balls to the wall on getting another speed guy, we would of traded for Pierre. He was on the block a month ago. Anderson has a nice glove and a nice arm. He gives us a potential upgrade over Rowand from the bat standpoint and not much of a dropoff if any in the field. Sweeney will be in RF, Anderson will be in CF, and Owens will be in LF in the future. Anderson and Sweeney are also loved by not only KW but Ozzie himself. That mlbrumours website is a pile of dank s***e.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Ya, I forget what it is. I almost thought it was a year, but that is probably too long. Jas, couldnt they leave him as a player to be named later if there was a timing issue, and then complete the deal officially after the term was complete.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) They will have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. In other words... yes. They are not a pushover like you are making them out to be. I am figuring ford wil settle in betweem his 2004 and 2005 seasons, castillo will put up .370+ obp, one of morneau or mauer will likely improve...stewart will be better than last year...etc. Mauer needs to stay healthy. He can hit when he is healthy. His power however has not arrived yet. Morneau needs to prove he isnt Russell Branyan.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Thats not the point. The original point was that they have improved, something you thought no one else in the AL Central had done. The fact that they got Luis Castillo to fill a huge hole at second, Rondell White to improve on Jaque Jones, and a full season of Scott Baker and Francisco Liriano, yes, they have improved. And yea, since their pitching staff is so good, they do slightly worry me. Their projected rotation is Santana Radke Sliva Lohse Baker Liriano will open in the pen or get more seasoning at AAA. They havent traded Lohse yet, so he stays in the rotation. Santana is a stud. We can hit the rest.

QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Free beer, peanuts and whores for the limo too? Come on now lets not be silly, whores cost a lot. They arrive when Tejada comes off the plane for his ride to the Cell.
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) I like that trade-off but, I'd hate to lose Uribe. To get Tejada, I would rent the limo, and make sure Uribe had a window seat for the flight to lovely baltimore. We land Tejada, and I think we seriously are hitting 3 mill in attendance this year.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) I agree. The Cubs wont give them Zambrano and Pie so a deal won't happen there unless one of the sides gets desperate. I say Tejada stays in Baltimore. Here we go for another round of Tejada talk.

Re-sign Contreras, trade Vazquez mid-season
southsideirish71 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) Will you please stop your love affair with the word exponentially? Is Vazquez going to square his value? Perhaps even cube it? What if he decreases his value exponentially to the 1/2 power? Diction, use it. And you're actually keen to the idea of giving a three year contract worth somewhere in the vicinity of $12 million, wouldn't you give it to somehow who might be 38? Baseball isn't different from any other form of trading, you buy low and sell high. With six starting pitchers, Contreras has the highest value as of now and could be used to get bullpen help which the White Sox need. You dont know anything. Mid season we will get Zito for prospects, and then turn him around for more prospects. Either that or we can have 7 starters. In the offseason we can sign a few guys and have 8 starters, talk about redundancy. Our payroll wont be a tad over 140 mill. Reinsdorf can afford it. We are talking about a WS Dynasty here. -
Re-sign Contreras, trade Vazquez mid-season
southsideirish71 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Does anyone doubt that when all the negotiating is over, that Jose Contreras will sign an extension with the Sox? After all the love he has felt here, and his rapport with Ozzie and Coop, I think there is no doubt that Jose will want to be back. I think as long as Jose's demands don't get ridiculous, that KW will find a way to make a deal. So where will that leave the Sox? With 6 strong starting pitchers, the envy of baseball. And, unless someone comes to the Sox with an offer KW can't refuse, I think that is where the Sox will be opening day. McCarthy will be in the bullpen and Contreras, Buehrle, Garcia, Garland, and Vazquez will be in the rotation. It makes a lot of sense. For example, what if Mark Buehrle's foot twinge last spring had been real, knocking him out for weeks? Freak injuries can happen, and having an extra starter ready to plug in can go from a luxury to a necessity whenever they do. Given how badly the Sox performed from 2001-2004 without a reliable 5th man, I think KW fully appreciates the value of starting depth. But this is not necessarily the same place the Sox should be mid-season. By then, they will have a much better assessment of the AL race, how Brandon McCarthy continues to perform against major league hitting, and the health of the team. They should also know whether Brian Anderson is overmatched in CF, whether Jim Thome is fully recovered and back to his old self, whether Joe Crede's back is holding up, etc. In other words, KW will have an even better sense of the club's mid-season needs. (Let's hope we don't have any.) But the biggest thing the Sox may know is how good Javier Vazquez really is. Is he the Vazquez who showed great promise in Montreal? Or the mediocre innings eater he was for the Diamondbacks last year. Under Coop's tutelage, it is highly unlikely he'll be any worse than he was in 2005, with his 4.32 ERA and 35-HR's surrendered, and more likely he'll be better. Yet better for Vazquez may still make him the weakest starter on our team, capable of being replaced by Brandon McCarthy mid-season. And at that point, still basically bound to any team that trades for him for 2-1/2 more years, Vazquez could be a huge trading chit. In fact, if he's shown a return to Montreal form, he'd have much more trade value mid-season than he does now. His value would also be enhanced because he could be a difference-maker for a contender in need of pitching (which every contender except the Sox will probably need). For example, depending on where the Phillies are, why not Bobby Abreu (and some cash to soften his contract) for a refurbished Vazquez at that point? Or perhaps some other player to give us an offensive boost? Or even a contender's best prospects? Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if KW isn't thinking very much along these lines. Of course, it depends on Jose inking an extension. But it would surprise me a great deal if he doesn't do that. So for the recap of the crazy talk..... So we traded our number 1 prospect that everyone thinks is going to be a star CF, so we can reaquire other prospects. Boy you paint KW to be a moron.... -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) Hopefully playing under Girardi may help him improve some of his weaknesses in calling games that we've heard so much about. Maybe he can talk to Cerrano and find out how he learned to hit the curved ball, straight ball he hit very straight, bats afraid of the curved ball.

Why does everyone want to dump Jon Garland?
southsideirish71 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) I'll happily eat crow next year if he sucks, if everyone who ripped me about Garland and said he should be traded and/or was never going to sign here again steps up and eats the crow RIGHT NOW. Nothing like the refeshing feeling of watching people slap themselves on the back, while kicking people that they didnt agree with. I bet you feel good for yourself. You are quickly becoming a very popular guy around here. I have a funny feeling people will be directing you what to eat. And it isnt crow. -
QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Well, who turned out to be right about Garland????? Congrats on your nut.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) Jose Contreras - S - White Sox Jose Contreras is believed to want three guaranteed seasons at between $11 million and $12 million per year in a contract extension with the White Sox, so he may be trade bait now. "We have talked; we have not gotten too far," agent Jaime Torres said. "Jose is interested in staying in Chicago, but the market has been set [this winter]. Jose wants to stay, but it's a business, and we have to make sure his next contract is a good one." The White Sox are content to keep all six of their starters and put Brandon McCarthy into the pen to start the season, but it is a possibility that Contreras will go, perhaps for a reliever and a pitching prospect or two. Dec. 29 - 5:01 am et Source: Chicago Tribune What do you think will happen with Jose? And so it begins, like Chaveztalk, and Griffeytalk, and as recently as Garlandtalk, we are now offically Counttalk.
