  1. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) If you're willing to give up on Field already, then I'm glad you're not a GM. It's been proven that Blalock is nothing outside of Ameriquest and is a horrible 2nd half player. I'm willing to ride out Crede for a year especially since it took Beltre that long as well to break out. Again, I'm not against trading Crede for an upgrade, but Blalock is not an upgrade. The only problem Nite is that you have only a few oober guys out there that you believe are better than Crede. Chavez and thats pretty much about it. If we could get Hank and reaching for a pie in the sky like Danks for that package you do it.
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Last I checked, the Twins werent running at full strength last year, but their pitching was still in the top 5. Provided they have a relatively healthy season next year, they could still contend. Tony Batista still has some pop left in his bat, and he always hits well against the Sox. This is better than having Cuddyer at third. Kyyle, Tony Batista of old was a threat. This is a guy who hit .263 in Japan. How does that translate to the pitching of the MLB. Their pitching is great. They havent fixed their offense so far.
  3. God they always find a way to counter our every move.
  4. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Joe Crede's name has been brought up by, among others, Phil Rogers, who thinks we ought to trade Jon Garland AND Joe Crede for Hank Blalock. Egads: When you look at Blalock's road numbers of a .335 slugging average and a .276 OBP, however, you realize what a stupid move that would be. The dilemma of Joe Crede is that he's a horribly streaky hitter. Here are his splits last year, by month: April 79 12 24 6 0 2 9 5 3 9 0 0 .304 .368 .456 .824 May 84 8 13 2 0 3 9 5 2 17 0 1 .155 .211 .286 .496 June 80 11 22 3 0 6 17 5 2 10 1 0 .275 .333 .538 .871 July 69 10 21 5 0 4 12 4 0 11 0 0 .304 .342 .551 .893 August 58 2 6 1 0 1 1 2 1 10 0 0 .103 .148 .172 .320 September 58 11 22 4 0 6 13 4 0 8 0 0 .379 .419 .759 1.178 In April, June, July, and September, the man is in the top 6 OFFENSIVE 3Bs in baseball. He's better than Eric Chavez, for example, whose OPS was .794. The question is what is going to take for Crede to eliminate his horrible streaks of May and August?? Personally, I think he's already found it in fatherhood and postseason glory. I expect we will see Joe hit 30 or more HRs, with a .500+ slugging percentage and an OPS in the .850+ range next year, and then carry those kind of numbers forward into his early 30s. He'd be a very good #6 hitter behind Konerko and Thome (I'd hit Dye 3rd, but that's another post). And with his defense already better than everyone above him offensively except possibly A-Rod, Joe Crede will be one of the 5 best 3Bs in the game in the next couple of years. The only thing that might derail that is his back. So, please stop with the "trade Joe Crede" ideas. Boras or no, KW should put signing JC to a multi-year deal at the top of his list of remaining offseason things to do. Its Mr No trades. Dont trade Joe Borchard, he may become Babe Ruth. Dont get rid of Timo Perez, he may hit 340 next year. Dont trade any one of our prospects, Scott Ruffcorn could of been a Cy Young winner.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:33 AM) Yeah, it looks like the media is going to try and make it look like the Sox are airing it out with their dirty laundry again with Garland after what happened with Maggs and Lee. And you'd think Jon could show a little loyalty from how the Sox actually stuck by him, but with the current market for FA SP's, it looks like he's going to test it. And that looks like it's going to cost his job with us. This is standard operating procedure. Distancing themselves from soon to be ex sox player. Then the break. Thanks Jon for the magical 2005. If you can get us impact pitching prospects, great.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) exactly what were the names of the players that won the world series and were in the historical DVD collectors set? those were the men that made you proud to be a WS champ fan. i remember each & every one of them contributing in a VERY BIG WAY along the 11 out of 12 rompage & stompage that included the former WS champs, Vladdy & his bad ass Angels, & then Clemens, Pettite & Oswald! The whole world watched OUR 2005 Chicago White Sox win the WS and they dont deserve to be compared to any other players for what they accomplished. at this moment the only thing we know SSI71 is that the guys who won the WS last year are champions. THEM & ONLY THEM. this has been proven. what we dont know is whether or not the offseason moves will prove to be a back2backer. we are all going to be needing to ban together as fans next year and enjoy the run reminding the rest of the league who the HELL we are! Thank god that they had the forsight to video tape the entire experience so you can play that over and over. Now if next year we faced the exact same teams in the same order maybe the same exact team works. Now instead of facing Clement we face Beckett, maybe even Clemens who might be healthy by then. Now instead of facing Erwin Santana we face Colon who I am sure might be rehabilitated by next year. Maybe we face the As who have made some strides in their offense from last year. You cannot sit back and rest on your laurels. Its very sentimental to get attached to a player. I mean you buy the jersey of your favorite player and they trade him. How rude. Get over it and move on. Or sit back and hit infinite replay on your DVD and drink yourself into a permanent 2005 slumber.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) no this is not the whining and pouting thread. believe it or not but the entire Chicago White Sox uppers have probably sat down collectively and discussed this EXACT issue in complete detail. the moves they have taken are indicative of the result of the discussions. some of us wish we had been in the room during those discussions thats all. that is the best part about being a fan. being emotional and scared of failure in lieu of winning. for the most part i am just happy to see the team be the best it can be. that is what drew me to being a sox fan from the get go. our guys are always the guys you want to hang with. tough studs that are pretty much clean cut and absolute competitive battlers that never say die. So you want Timo Perez/Harris/Blum as our options off the bench and no macowiak Everett is our DH instead of Thome Konerko is an Angel because he has no protection. Everett is moved to RF and our OF defense is slower. Gload is the first baseman Marte is still in the pen. El Duque is pitching in the rotation. 2 or more DL spots for him Garland and the Count are in the last year of their contract. So if we lose both, Felix Diaz and Arnie Munoz are in the rotation the following year. Okay stop. I like the part where KW made changes, made the offense better, protected the core of the team which is the pitching for the next few years, and did this while getting rid of people that could be replaced.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) you are assuming that KW has made this team A LOT better. PITCHING PITCHING PITCHING + STRONG UP THE MIDDLE + TIMELY HITS i would say were bigger contributions to the WS run of 11 out of 12 than what you claim....of luck, fate, & overcoming shortcomings? i think that the only way OUR team really tails off is if OUR core pitching staff gets hit with injury, self complacency, greed or is traded away. Shockingly I would rather have Jim Thome up there with men on than Carl Everett who at the end of the season looked like he was swinging a 90 ounce bat. Remember Carl who had such a bad slump that at the very end of the season they moved Dye into the 3 hole because they didnt have any production out of it for a month. This is an offense that was medicore to bad for most of the year. It clicked very nicely in the playoffs. The stars aligned and the hitting matched the pitching. But I remember August through September when our pitching was good and our hitting blew. Do we really want to gamble with hoping that the stars align again and we squeak out all those 1 run games. I would rather have it where our pitching is great and our offense rocks. I like it when Buerhle throws a 4 hit game where we win 5-1 instead of the 2-1 hope and pray game.
  9. QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) He has trash canned the best hitter I ever saw in Frank Thomas and traded the man threw the best single ½ inning a baseball I have ever seen in my life, in Orlando Hernandez. He disposed of the epitome of the World Championship team in Aaron Rowand, a guy we watched grow and regress in Marte and a guy who took one for the team in April that haunted his entire season in Vizcaino. He discarded Carl Everett who carried the offense at times. He dismissed the man who hit a game winner in the first World Series the team went to in 46 years. He is bringing in some big names to replace them but I miss my guys. I waited all my 53 years for a championship and now 6 of the 25 heroes from the playoff roster plus Frank – a quarter of them – are gone and we haven’t even gotten to spring training yet. The magic of 2005, of our guys, a team that nobody else respected but knew in its heart it could do it, a team that got great plays from the most unlikely sources is gone. The warmth I felt for the team going against all probabilities is being replaced fantasy baseball-like expected run production ratios. When Williams starts his BS about the Sox being a family all the players need to do is look how Frank, Aaron, Orlando, Damaso, Luis, Geoff and Carl were all s*** canned within 2 months of winning the ring for them -great family. When is Kenny going to stop killing the best thing that ever happened to the White Sox for a half century? Fixed the color for you. Carl is the same guy who was removed from hitting third and we put Dye in to hit third because we were desperate. Luis was a gas can. Geoff had a great homer in one game and played solid defense. Outside of that one game he couldnt hit. Damaso walked the bases loaded nearly blowing the game in Boston, he quit on the team during the end of the pennant race and lied about his injury. El Duque is 40, was injuried a few times, had a magical inning in the playoffs. Before his magical inning just about everyone was livid that Bmac was not on the playoff roster. Rowand is nice and all, but we have lots of OFs lets deal from a position of strength. Frank may or may not be healthy and is not the left handed power hitter we were looking for. But besides that you hit it on the spot.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) Where would he play.. ? You beat me to that one. With Thome as the DH, I cannot see KGJ running around in the OF with his injury issues.
  11. This is a great quote with everyone getting into a bunch over losing prospects in trades.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Hu...?? He can't even hold a conversation with 95% of the team and staff. Good grief.. Oh how I wish Crede had caught that damn ball. :headshake Oddly this Tejada character seems to have a real good glove. And he can also hit for average, drive in runs, and has power and wants to win. Why oh why would we want that.
  13. Don't know if this has been in the endless pages of this thread. But if that Yankee money is coming back towards the sox to balance out the fiscal requirement, this is becoming a better deal by the minute.
  14. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Can you provide any facts from any recognized source to back up your “complete disagreement.” Let’s start with the basics first. What do you disagree with in the statement below? I wouldn't use the pyschiatric definition of pedophilia or age of consent. This of course is the same group that testifies in court that Subject X is cured of his pedophilia urges and can be released into society, then a few months later Subject X is arrested for the disappearance of Victim B a 13 year old boy who is dead in the trunk of Subject X's car. Sorry I go by the guidelines of the Illinois Comipled Statutes Criminal Code. This is the criteria we used to use to arrest these types of filth. But based on the guidlines you had posted the 45 year old man who has sex with a 14 year old boy is not a pedophile. I guess the priests are off scott free. I would disagree with that statement. My favorite quote in what you posted is "Pedophilia generally is treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy". In their mind they think they can use some therapy and some drugs and the pedophile will be ok. So take your prozac and you wont want to jump jimmy down the block. It doesnt work that way. Remove the creature from the society and never allow them around children again.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Edgar Davids doesn't play anymore does he? Its the glasses man. Thats what gives him super powers for Oranje.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Thank you, Kenny. Garland and Young for Vazquez would be retarded. So the deal is going to happen soon
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) There goes my theory about Macs. Running Virex (free thru ISU) and it's run into 2 trojans. No system is secure out of the box. But it also doesnt help that you are at school. Universities are open warefare from a malware/security point.
  18. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Protesting? So while Israel is smoldering, we start an investigation? I don't think anyone would fire nukes back at Iran for fear of killing people in nations that are trying to "democratize" (Iraq and Afghanistan come to mind), but it would be a full scale ground and air war on Iran...and I don't think too many Islamic nations would come to their aid. Hatred of Israel or not. Actually my personal view is that if they use nukes, we make them into the biggest parking lot in the middle east. See if the sand will turn to glass. But trust me, if Israel is glowing and we start to build up to go to war with Iran. People will protest. Michael Moore can do a documentary on how the evil americans came to Israels aid.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) How much better would they have looked if they had the last years money for two more years? Buehrle through say 2009 at $10 million a year would be a HUGE steal, same for Garcia at $8 million. Heck the first few years Contreras deal was horrible, now he would be looking at $10 million a year for the finish he had. There are plenty of examples of the albatross contracts also.
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) From one of my favorites: You're that smart? Let me put it this way: have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates? Yes. Morons.
  21. Some of the best work you have done so far SF1. Very nice.
  22. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) An attack on Isreal *IS* an attack on the US according to agreements in place and well understood throughout the world. If its an allegedly coming from "Al Queda". Who do we nuke. Before we detonate Nuclear weapons over a country we will need proof like nothing else. I can see it now. A B2 drops a 1 megaton nuke on Tehran. They might deserve it, however how many people would be protesting it.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) You know, now that I think about it, it's gonna bea tough for anyone not to pick Brazil. As long as they have Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, and Roberto Carlos....they'll be tough. Ronaldinho is arguably the best player in the world right now. But playing in Germany, Germany will be a favorite to with Oliver Kahn mining the net. It's gonna be a great World Cup. Oliver Kahn has had so many personal issues and is not the same GK that he was in the last WC. Ballack is good and all, but they do not play the creative football that the Brazilians play. The Brazillians have so many guns, Kaka/Ronaldo with Ronaldinho creating havoc is pretty nasty. The Brazillians have to be the favorites. The dutch are my dark horse for going to the finals.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) 11-15 4.47 ERA Todd Ritchie 2001 29 years old 11-15 4.42 ERA Javier Vazquez 2005 28 years old Pretty scary huh? What was the Counts record and ERA before he became game 1 starter of the WS for the White Sox.
