Sox @ Houston - World Series Game 4
southsideirish71 replied to Heads22's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) I agree bigtime. These guys need to learn to adjust. I mean, it's not like we've won 16 of the last 17 in the last 4 series. In three of those series we faced 3 of the top 5 pitching staffs IN THE MAJOR f***ING LEAGUE. But I agree. We need to light him up too, even if he's locating perfectly. Just no excuse for it really. Its a simple formula. Most of the pitchers we have faced in the offseason have tried to challenge us. Byrd who we had some problems with and now Backe have nibbled the outside corner. -

Its real simple. This is a slider pitcher who is going away constantly to pwn our hitters. If a few of our guys dump a few of these pitches into right, then maybe just maybe you will get a pitch in to pull. Our hitters have not hit slider pitchers for most of the year. Rowand couldnt hit a slider if you told him it was coming. Dye has had our best AB. He hit the first pitch into right center. At least he has a clue. -

This is going to be our toughest pitcher to face in the series. A slider pitcher who hits the outside corner. Dye is hitting well. Rowand cannot hit a slider to save his life. They need to work on this during the offseason. -
Lets win this one, savor it for a while, then get back to our plans for next year later. Live in the moment now. This is something that is very special and is hard enough to do, more or less repeat year after year. Be happy for something that a lot of us never thought would happen in our lifetimes. GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOLY s*** HOUSTON YOU NOW HAVE A HUGE f***ING PROBLEM -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) They have no right to b****. Its a f***in rule. Don't like it? Change the rule. The D-Backs had to deal with it and they didn't let that become a hindrance. As a side, baseball is an outdoor game weather permitting and weather permits tonight. Its bad enough they get away with having a friggin hill in center and now they want to claim they are losing home field advantage. Here is the post of the night on this from the ESPN boards a Diamonbacks fan put this on the Astro board.

They should of just saved some money and flew to the bunny ranch. Whats the point of spending that kind of coin if you dont get laid.
-
Hopefully they layer tonight. Its going to be a freezing 65 degrees at gametime, and it might go as low as 57 around end of game. YES!!! "I think it's a disregard to our fans, the comfort of our fans," Astros manager Phil Garner said.

I am still trying to figure out where this offense was all year long. If they hit like this during the season we would of won like 120 games. I knew the pitching would be good enough to get us in, I highly doubted our offense would be good enough. Thank god I was wrong. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Can we please stop referring to people as "Nobel Prize Nominees"? I mean, in 2004 alone there were 173 nominees for that award. Yeah, it's an honor, but it's not exactly the most exclusive group in history. Its should be titled, Convicted murder and founder of one of the most violent gangs in the country.

Reinsdorf was on Norths show this morning. He said the season ticket base this year was around 11k. That he believes it will be around 15k for next year. In 83 we had like 8k, and it had a high in the early 90's of more than 18k.

QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Well seeing that our series with the Astros is at minute maid now what do you guys think should they play with the dome or not. Seeing that the Astros have a better record with it, but we have the better record in away games. What do you think about MLB's decision not to allow them to have it. Astros feel that the MLB never cared to make a decision during the course of the season so why now. The MLB runs the world series. And they made the Diamondbacks open their retractable dome for their world series games. Its a precedent and that is why they are holding them to it.

Sox @ Houston - World Series Game 3

Again Harold Reynolds made a silly comment. Not his prediction of the Astros winning based on Oswalt pitching. No from MMP again he made the silly statement that the whitesox are an offspeed hitting team and cannot hit the fastball. Didnt he say the same thing when Lackey and Santana faced us in the ALCS? Let me help you out Mr. BBTN. The whitesox for years have had problems with guys who throw less than 90mph. These junk ball pitchers make our hitters look silly. Now get a guy who is throwing gas and we will knock the s*** out of the ball. I am convinced that our lineup will get to Oswalt tomorrow night. He will pound our hitters in and Dye and Konerko will light him up. You want to beat the whitesox, get a soft tossing righty who paints the outside corner and can throw a sweeping slider on the outer half. That guy will give our offense fits, a flamethrower who tries to throw inside. This is like a wet dream for our hitters. Pods, Dye, Konerko, Rowand, Uribe are all fastball hitters. Of course they made the same comment that Iguchi couldnt hit a wells curveball. Crede is hitting breaking pitches now as good as anyone, maybe thats were they get this. But most likely its soley based on the fact that Konerko jacked 2 3 run dongs off of breaking pitches in the ALCS. Lets rock Oswalt and get the fat lady warmed up. -
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Watching ESPNNEWS today, they said that Houston plays 85% of their games with the roof closed, but in the World Series, MLB just about controls everything and they said that the roof should be OPEN for the games in Houston The conspiracy theorist are going to have a field day with this one. Advantage Pale Hose.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) But why are you still preachin on how the Sox are a terrible fastball hitting team? Konerko, Dye, and even Podsednik tonight have shown themselves able to hit a fastball. I don't know where he got this idea that we are a terrible fastball hitting team. Maybe just because we're not the Red Sox? That was the dumbest thing I heard from Baseball Tonight. I harped over and over and over this year that it was the junk ballers, the guy who hits 85 to 90 who can spot the fastball on the outer half that can own this team. Any f***ing foolish team that challenges our hitters inside are nuts. We are a very good fastball hitting team. You leave it center in and they will launch you all day long. Guys like Byrd scare me facing this team. Oswalt doesnt. We will launch his ass on Tuesday.

I just got back from the cell. I sat up in Section 506 freezing my ass off. Never felt so warm at the end watching the Pods homer go out. I am f***ing horse right now from screaming and yelling at the game. No amount of money that I could of gotten for the ticket would of been worth it. I have memories that I can tell my children about and down the road my grandchildren. This truly was an amazing day. GO GO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) We'll be in 556 Row 14. We should be easy to spot. My wife and I will have this sign: Credo in Crede Kudos to the first person who can tell me what it means (It's Latin, if that helps). I put this up on another board a while back, so some may recognize it. I believe in Crede. Ha, and I thought my latin in high school was worthless. I had to memorize this in high school for class. Catholic high school mind you. Credo in unum Deum, Patrem omnipotentem, factorem caeli et terrae. Which means I believe in one God, the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) So basically I am talking to a modern miracle. Wow. No one was more shocked than I was. I got it around 15 minutes after getting booted out like a million times and then deciding to take a shot on 1 ticket for game 2.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) What'd you pay for that, if I may ask. I was one of the lucky fools who had one browser get a hit on ticketmaster on tuesday. I paid the 125 plus ticketmaster fees.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Where you sitting? Section 506 row 18 up in the Euker seats. I am in the stadium is all that matters.

I was able to get one ticket only for game 2. So going solo.

LETS MAKE THE f***ING JETSONS DOG EAT s*** -
Now this is getting silly. Would I be a bit let down if they dont pull this out, yeah. Would I look at the season as a failure, f***ing no way. I am proud of our boys for getting to this point. A world frickin series in chicago. That doesnt happen. I told my wife last night, you know I always dream at the start of ST that these guys would get into the playoffs and go far. But I never really thought this team would get this far. I am very proud to be a sox fan. If they win this I will fly the champions flag high, if they dont I will keep my memories of a special season. This season has been great, lets finish this thing. LETS WIN THIS f***ING THING

Actually I am pretty positive about our offense in this one. The Astro pitchers are hard throwing guys who pound the inside. As much as I have abused our offense during the year for not going oppo, this could be just the trick for a pull fastball team. We cannot hit guys who throw 85-88 and spot a fastball on the outside corner. Those guys are like kryptonite to our guys. But hard throwers like Cabrera in Baltimore who feature a 98 mph fastball we light up like a christmas tree. All of the pitchers are fastball pitchers who pound inside. The only one that looks like he should give our guys fits is Backe because of his slider.
