QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Look, I know that we'd all like to wrap this thing up and all but hear me out. I kind of want the Yankees to run the table to win the East and for us to tie Cleveland for the division. I say this because of how memorable one-game playoffs truly are. THink back to Angels-Mariners or the Sawx/Yanks for the Bucky Dent game. I will celebrate us making the playoffs when we win the division but there is a large part of me that knows how great a one-game playoff to move on or go home would be in Chicago on Monday afternoon. It would be an electric atmosphere This makes no sense. Win the division and get in, or possibly f*** ourselves.

2-0, Everett has a triple Maybe this lineup Dye, Konerko and Everett may work. HOLY s***!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Jermaine Dye looks good at the 3 hole. Double for Dye. Run would of scored if Pablo didnt get caught.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Pablo on board! Pablo caught stealing. Slipped on the run.

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) What would happen if Cleveland won out, giving them 96 wins, Boston did the same, and the Sox drop their last four, leaving them with 96? Then the Yanks would be out.

TIME TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF GRILLI AND CLINCH THIS THING Offense meet Mr. Grilli. Yes the same Jason Grilli that had a 7+ ERA and sucked big time last year. He in fact is the same pitcher. Dont let him fool you, he sucks.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) "LINEUP CHANGE: Guillen said he is considering taking Carl Everett out of the designated hitter role today and using Paul Konerko as the DH with Ross Gload playing first base. Before getting a sixth-inning single Tuesday, Everett had five hits in his last 42 at-bats" suntimes article This is a few days overdue.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) Still can't believe people overlook his first half in favor of the second half. You can't do what he did in the first half and be a bad baseball player. I suppose using your logic, whatever happens lately for a ballplayer is how it will be from now on. Contreras will be lights out the rest of his career. Hermanson's back will continue being bad and he will blow save after save. Joe Crede is going to be Mr. Clutch .300 hitter the rest of his career. Pfft. So basically by your logic, if a guy hits 350 in the first half, then hits 220 in the second half and then kicks the ball around in the playoffs its okay, because he was part of our success in the first half.

Inspiration quote by Dye after tonights loss. :finger Dye How about when you see men on the bases, and you come up to bat, hit the f***ing ball and maybe those guys will run around the bases till they touch home. No more King with men on.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) Carl is hitting .294 with risp. Well that is great for the year. However how is Carl hitting in September, in crunch time.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) Remember when we held a lead in like the first 30 or so games of the season? Yeah, tell me Pods means nothing. Frank meant something too, though I will agree. But Pods means a lot as well. We were winning because of our pitching. We pitched out of our f***ing minds in April and May. Our offense barely was able to scrap a few runs together. We were beating the Indians (who couldnt hit at all) a bunch of times by one run. Well guess what they started to hit and we havent. Our pitching is no longer giving up a run or 2. Its now 3 or 4. This translates into losses now instead of wins. Pods was reaking havoc on the basepaths but wasnt exactly scoring a lot during this time. Remember all of the crap at the allstar break about how pods was one dimesional. He was fast, but he didnt score a lot of runs, etc.
-
QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Hahahaha, ok. That's why we started sucking once he went down. I will restate this stat. We hit 250s in April and May. Then Frank Thomas came back We hit 270s in June and July. Then Frank Thomas got hurt. We stopped hitting. Not because of Scotty Pods. People are not afraid of Scotty Pods, but a 6'5 guy who can take them out. Yes. Granted he was one dimensional, but still he walked a lot and people pitched around him to get to Konerko. In turn Konerko got a ton of better pitches to hit. WTF would anyone pitch to Konerko anymore. Walk him and then strike out Dye or whomever.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) White Sox 1st half offense = Indians 2nd half offense You may want to put that in green.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Funny how it all starts with the Batting Coach with you lol. Didnt say it was Walker at all. It takes two to tango on this. I think Rowand hit some homers last year, signed a contract and wanted to prove he was worth it. It happens a lot. Its up to our managment as a whole to stop this type of s***.
-
The biggest problem I have seen is the tinkering of our hitters with their swings. Look at Rowand from last year, and compare where his hands are this year. Last year, his left elbow had a noticeble locked L, the elbow was up high and his bat was pretty much straight up with a tiny amount of wiggle to it. It was a very mechanical looking stance if anyone remembers it. As mechanical as it looked, his stroke was short and quick. His power was to right center and to left center. This year, Rowand has a different stance. His front elbow is bent and pointing down. His hands are tucked in more. His bat is inverted a bit. His swing now is more of a down stroke on the ball. I read earlier in the year on how he changed his swing to get more power. Now at the end of this year, his BA is down, his strikeouts are up and he cannot reach the outside pitch anymore. Maybe our hitters once they have success can be stopped from revamping their swings and f***ing their hitting up. He hit some homers last year, and probably thought, if I make this change I will hit over 30. Well I think it backfired. STOP f***ING WITH YOUR SWINGS, UNLESS YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS HITTING.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) I don't know how many times I've said it this year, but..... If he's on the roster, he's in danger of being used. -- No surprise there Let's bring up that Blum thread. There was a ton of people defending him with the sub .200 BA, useless defense, and 4 extra base hits. Cheat, Here is the butchers bill on Blum. .105 with RISP compared to Timo .237 He is 0 for 12 this year with RISP and 2 outs. But Ozzie had his gut, and we sit here with a loss. Blum has sat on the bench and hasnt played in a while. Ozzie played everyone all the time, resting good amounts of our starters. And felt no pressure, why because we had a 15 game lead. He squandered that lead, playing Timo in just about every possible position. Now that he is in official panic mode, he is playing his go to guys and they are dying. He is afraid to make a change at this point, figuring it will backfire. Whatever Gload did to get on Ozzies bad side, holy s***.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I know most people look at the whole what he has with ties to the franchise. But he has many more ties here, IMO. So his decision would have to be based off something else. If he f***s this up and we dont make the playoffs, he will not be welcome here by soxfans. 15 game lead, I could give a flying f*** how hot the Indians are. We have lost a bunch of this lead by losing to the Texas no pitching Rangers, Tigers, and the Royals. If we play 500 ball against this pile of feces we have clinched already.
